Sounded epic. I might just have to do Monaco. Will it be the 3 stage qualifying on Saturday with practice on the Thursday? Not sure if you're 100% on the Monaco GP(could be wrong) so if you need the schedule help I'm here. Won't be available to practice on the thursday though.:(
Also, Ferrari or FGT?

How much did Owens win by?

Feeling much better after eating and resting! Looking forward to Monaco bunches. I think with no drafting and that it's on a road course will take the monotony and headache-inducing concentration parts out of it!

My game froze at the conclusion of the first "parade" race, leaving me stuck on track, unable to return to the lobby screen. I sent a message that I was restarting my game, and needed only 2 minutes, but arrived back at the lobby in time to see the leaders starting lap 2. I would have loved a chance to participate, since I had found a killer setup at 4am this morning.

My stomach turned when I seen you pop back in the lobby at lap 2. I felt so sorry for you and others with connection issues.

GT. Hope to see you in the Monaco race. ;)

Again thank you all for being involved. With out you guys we have nothing.

Major respect and appreciation.

Yeah, sorry Mustang. I had no idea you weren't in the room, everything was kinda chaotic. We'll figure out a simpler way for the next race.

Added one more video to the OP.

Yeah, really wish I could've stuck the rest of the race out.
But I promised my younger brothers I'd be done by three. :(
I need to get my own PS3. :(

To make up for my disappointment at not being able to race today, i have setup an Indy125 room, 50 laps. I'll be on for another hour or so if anyone wants to join me. After watching the videos and reading about the race, if i get a 50 lap race i'll be a bit happier at missing out...

I will try make it.

Only negative is only 2 variants and 2 colors. Leaves us with little variety for driver personalization.

Maybe do FGT's restricted 700hp? Run softs?

If we do Ferrari's should be limit it to on model and call it a day? 2 variants.

I have all three cars mentioned and love them all. So open minded here.

I'd personally want to go with the F2007.

I think it was mentioned a few pages back about forcing multiple tire compounds...
We have everybody get onto the track with racing hards, switch the limit back to racing softs, then start the race...

FGT at 700hp doesn't sound too bad, should be pretty docile. We have some testing to do!

Should we make a social group?

I have issues following social groups. I do most my GTP from the iPhone app. It updates thread and never miss a thing.

Anyone else notice this? Solutions ?

Also got a request. Anyone know real F1 times at Monaco? Ferrari's on Gt5 on Monaco?

Also like the tire idea. Love to run open choice. Hard start make for a interesting set up. Do you take the time hit and drive on them till they depleat vs drop in pit right away and gain lap times Hmmmm be interesting. Love it.

I definitely like that idea, go for it!

Some very good questions raised here, I have some thoughts/opinions I'll put out there for everyone to chew on.

Cars: We're going to try to be as authentic as possible so I'd like to figure out a way to use the F1 cars. I'd like to do some testing to see if we could get the 2 models on a fairly level playing field, but I've done some reading on this and I'm not sure if it's possible because they're 2 totally different machine's. Owens and I will do some testing though to see if we can make it work. If we can get both models on the grid then it wouldn't be quite so visually boring. 👍

I also really want to try the multiple tire rule out, it would make a much bigger difference on a road course than the oval. :)

But, both those cars are very expensive and not everybody has them or can get them. I'm not sure if they can be acquired with a ticket or not, but the lack of availability may be something we have to take into consideration. For the sake of simplicity, we may be forced to use the FGT. If we do, we will try to get them spec'd to the real life lap times.

Social Group: Having a main thread in the Online Racing Forum seems to work out well, but a social group can be handy. What I'd like to do is have a social group to supplement the main thread. I could setup areas in the social group for rules, registration, videos/pics, members list etc. so we could link to them in the main thread and keep some of the clutter down. Most of the discussion would take place in the main thread where it can be seen easily and attract interest. If nothing else it would just serve as a way to keep track of everyone because once you join you'll be on the "group members list" and we could easily find people.

The Monaco GP will probably be at least a few weeks away, we have a lot of testing to do and need to decide on a format. The Indy 500 didn't go quite as smoothly (starting procedure, connection issues) as we hoped, but I think we learned quite a bit and we can put that knowledge towards the next event. Also, because of the PSN being out for so long we were really scrambling to get the Indy 500 together, but we should have time to get everything sorted and tested for the next event. 👍 We really want to do 3 rounds of knockout qualifying, but so far I haven't been able to figure out a way to make it work within the limitations of GT5. I really enjoyed how we did a week of qualifying for the 500 and had an exciting bump day, if we can't figure out how to make knockout qualifying work we might go back to a similar version of that. Any ideas or suggestions about how to make knockout qualifying work are encouraged.

Side note: Was anybody able to watch the video stream I had up during the race? I glanced down at it during the pitstops and it showed I usually had around 10 viewers throughout the race. I literally threw that together right before the race, but it seemed to work out. Owens is going to try to get a webcam too so we can have at least 2 feeds up during the Monaco GP. If anybody else has a webcam and would like to broadcast during the race, that would be awesome! I love the idea of a gang of GTP members being able to view our races! I ran the feed through Justin TV, it's free and very easy, I was registered and broadcasting within 90 seconds. I just set the cam in front of my wheel so all it could see was the tv, I'd love to have 3 or 4 views up during the race!

Thanks again for all the great feedback and participation. 👍 Hopefully this will be the first of many fantastic, authentic events!

Just my 2 pence worth:

Cars: I would stick with FGT and try to match the performance of real F1 cars. Notice i said try...
Main reason would be cost of cars and so would increase potential participants. (Try saying that after a few jars..lol)

Social group: A must i would say if the series/events are to grow. I use a group for my DTM Series and it is very usefull in tracking all the information. I have a splashscreen on the OP of the forum which links to all the different information needed by all the drivers and followers.

Qualifying: Maybe 3 short races could provide the qualifying times for the 3 rounds of qualifying. Use the replay to find out fastest lap times.
Round 1: 15 Laps, Top 10 progress, Bottom 6 locked into position.
Round 2: 10 Laps, Top 5 progress, Bottom 5 locked into position.
Round 3: 5 Laps, Top 5 locked into position.

I watched the live feed. 👍
Would have been good to see the track map and race positions though.

The F10 is a huge bitch to drive on high speed turns.....Its even at Monoco however. We ran F10 versus F2007 and F10 won (reventon). Both were on racing softs.

For the other races I give the F2007 race mediums, F10 softs. However, the F10 is still much much harder to drive regardless. Your much more likely to slide, and snap to the right correcting the F10. The F2007 is easy to handle and has tons of aerodynamic-grip. It almost rewards crazy driving (flooring it through high speed sections, smoking the tires, etc).

You are on pins & needles with the F10 although it is almost as fast a car. It likes to oversteer. The feel is totally opposite of the F7. But again, performance wise at Monaco their very similar.

GTP_J_Turner, that splash screen is way cool. We might have to enlist your services to instruct us on how to do that, or put you in charge of that part. I can see some ways that would be useful for our events! I like your idea about qualifying too, I came up with pretty much the same idea but it does have a couple loop-holes we'd have to figure out.

As for the live feed, I couldn't quite get the whole screen in the picture but I'm going to adjust that for the next event and make sure the lap count and map can be seen, as well as the leaderboard.

So does anybody have suggestions about dealing with the connection issues we had at the beginning? It seemed like there was always 1 or 2 people that couldn't join after we'd try a different room, and I remember one person saying they started having problems after we got more than 10 people in the room. This is the main problem I think we need to sort out for the next race, but I'm not real sure how to address. I think we might need to limit the number of participants but I really don't want to do that if we don't have to. Any thoughts?

I think my connection issues (after we had more than 10 people in the room) were probably due to the internet I'm on. I'm at home for the summer, so it's 0.5M download, 0.25M upload. I think it should be fine for everyone else, so I'll join if I can and if not, I'll just have to sit out and watch the live feed.

I have an F2007 to give to someone if needed. Anyways, as for qualifying Owens or Stig will need to record there time after 20 minutes, go out and get the other times.
For the Q2 and pole shootout, we just need someone who was knocked out of Q1 to post the times.
If we could maybe post the times after each session here, as there is a 7 minute break between both sessions.

Also, 2 hour and a half long sessions on Thursday and an hour long one a couple hours before qualifying on Saturday.

Akmuq, the problem with that is collecting the times. The only way to see people's lap times is with the live timing monitor, this can only be viewed from the "watch race" screen and mine is real hit-or-miss as to whether it even works. Most of the time mine just shows --:--.-- instead of showing times. With it being that unreliable I don't think we can depend on it.

We've got a bit of time before the event happens so I'm going to chew on it to figure out the best way. I will be doing some testing tonight on the "classification" system the online lobby uses to determine the starting grid, that might provide some useful insight to this problem. I'm sure we can figure out a good way to make it work, we might need to enlist help from a couple members to make things go smoothly but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

^^^I'm happy to make a splash screen for you but i'm away for 3 weeks starting tomorrow night. So if you want me to do it then you will have to get the details to me tonight.
I'll need a background image and you will have to start a group and start all the discussions with a basic OP.

^^Setting the race quality to the lowest setting and turning off the voice features help with connection issues. Also having 1 person host 'fixed' with a fast and reliable connection helpsbut is risky. If host goes down everyone goes down.

Also need to think about a pre qualifying, qualifying as its likely you will get more than 16 people interested again. Maybe use the same format you used for Indy500 for the week before the race, followed by full Q1/Q2/Q3 on Saturday and race on Sunday.

Thats why i suggested making them races.
Q1 - 15 laps (actually 20 mins). After race, replay saved and someone leaves to watch the replay. After 20 mins of the race, pause replay and get everyones fastest lap times. Return to room and share the results. Top 10 back to the track and Q2 race starts.
Q2 - 10 laps (15 mins). Same as above but for 15 mins. Top 5 back to track for Q3.
Q3 - 5 laps (10 mins) (might need more laps...). Same as above but for 10 mins. Post grid to forum.

+ve's = Very official and like real thing.
-ve's = Would take 2 hours if it went well.
