Sorry guys, I guess I did too much racing yesterday (and had 1 too many beers) and I crashed out in my la-z-boy chair. lol Sounds like I missed out on a flurry of activity! Looked like things were very exciting, a true Bump Day! Congratulations to the top 16 on qualifying for what should be an incredible and grueling race! And thanks to Owens for staying up late and making sure everything was updated.
@aceboy, we will wait for you. We won't start the race until everyone is there, hopefully a little after 1pm.
We ask that after a pitstop everyone uses the full pit exit lane and re-enters the track in the backstretch. It's easier to merge with traffic in the backstretch then in the short chute. You will enter the pits on the front stretch, not in the short chute between turns 3 and 4.
For the start we are going to use a short 2 lap race as our formation laps. When the "Go" signal is given everyone will pull away slowly and get 3 wide, staying around 120mph. This is mainly a "photo op" and it doesn't matter what order we are in, we will stay 3 wide for one lap.
On the second lap everyone will stop on the backstretch and we will type out the starting order. When your name appears in the chat box you will pull away and cross the start/finish line. Once everyone has crossed the line and the "race" is finished everyone will return to the pits (stay off the track) and we will start the full race. It will line us up in the order we crossed the finish line from the 2 lap race.
The actual race will be set to "rolling start", it will set us 2 wide and when the "Go" signal is given the race will be underway! We don't want to go into turn 1 with a 3 wide group for the real race, it would be a disaster for sure, so we will stay in the 2 wide formation that it puts us in. Regretfully i will have to withdraw. My day has not worked out as planned and i am now well and trully gutted that i can not take part in this race. I've been looking forward to it for weeks. I hope you can contact whoever came 17th in qualifying before the start of the race. Sorry, but thanks for giving me the chance to qualify and hopefully i will be able to take part in this race another time.

Its probably recommendable that everyone back up their game save before connecting. I've heard of some people having problems online then coming back to find their game save gone since the PSN came back up.
Also on a related note I hope we don't have too many disconnections during the race. I got disconnected on the last lap of one of our 50 lap practices, but that was when I had my PS3 pretty far from my router. I rarely get disconnected otherwise though.
Other than that I'm super pumped for the race! I'm hoping it goes smooth but crashes will be inevitable with the combination of lag and the draft. I'll take what I can get though!

I believe Owens has access to a video capture card and plans on putting together a lengthy highlight video to post on youtube. I'm pretty handy with the photo mode and making slideshows so there will be one of those too. Should be awesome!
On a side note, I live just an hour north-east of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and it is an absolutely gorgeous day today! Very sunny, 77 degrees with a cool breeze, a great day for a race!!

It would be awesome if somebody had a webcam and could stream the race live via Ustream or Qik or Skype so that GTP members could tune in and watch the action. We will try to get that worked out for the next race, maybe even have multiple cameras setup so people could see different parts of the action.
