The Le Mans General Discussion Thread

All prototypes would look better in black in my opinion. Although in a race it would be pretty confusing. It'd be like a Batmobile World Endurance Championship ;)

Look at the rear of the bodywork, it looks like they changed something near the engine compartment.

Also, it is no longer festooned with "Quattro" badges. I bet it's a rear-wheel hybrid system.

Audi R18 updates...

Interesting thing to notice is how both cars have gone for giant louvers on the rear wheel arches that have leading edges to the wing endplates.

They're not louvers, they're mandatory fender holes. People are speculating that the Audi will go to RWD hybrid for 2013 because the 120kmh rule for the F(4)WD before it's activation.

Ok, perhaps wrong term. Still, the technique is interesting and the execution by both the teams is interestingly different.

In response to gatrs' anti-Ferrari comment ;)

Though obviously I support the chrome paint, for sunset and late night at Le Mans with those Audi headlamps blaring off the chrome. Whohahaha. (j/k)

Hmmm.... BWEC, I can see it all now.👍

But seriously, I do like the black on the R18 though.

Oh no! A black Ferrari is even worse, ever heard of the headless racer, who drives a black Ferrari on the 'Ring at certain nights? Don't tell me he's cursing LeSarthe now. :nervous::lol:

Yes, I can't wait to see how this execution of these designs will fair out next year. And since Audi is working on a RWD R18 for 2013, it's gonna get interesting for Team Audi and the privateers, just like the R8C and R8 of the late 90's towards the mid 2000s, all RWD.

Not much room for development there. The FIA has a rectangle plate with exact dimensions that has to fit in the holes. 2014 you can move the holes in the inner fender or wheel well. Like the TS020.

What also has changes totally is the sides of the rear wing. The side is just a straight rectangular piece of carbon-fibre where on the 2012 LMP1 car, going on the images Google Images came up with for me, the piece above the Bosch sponsors logo has a wedge cut out.

I have an idea about this. The plainness of the sides tells me theirs significant aerodynamic advances on the rest of the car so that the sides do not need to be as styled. Just a thought since I know nothing about the features of racing cars.

I would normally say it would be something sensible like "Grand-American Le Mans Racing" (GALMR) but knowing the US... probably be something like "World Sportscar Championship of America..."

Nah, it's going to be something short, like "American Sportcar Series".:sly:

Sweeeet. I love seeing more Prototype machinery on-track.

On that note, whatever happened to the Black Swan Racing LMP2 Lola? I remember them hitting the Lotus at Long Beach, but I haven't seen or heard about them since.

Wait you guys are just now hearing about Rebellion? :P

I'm excited too. Especially since it's probably the last time the states will see a P1 program...

Dome is also talking about ALMS possibilities, if that's the case the final ALMS season should be one to remember!
