The Le Mans General Discussion Thread

In the grand scheme of things how big is Rebellion and which other teams are considered the big teams?

If you take out works factory supported teams, Rebellion is big but not as big as ORECA was when they raced a Peugeot. Not as big as Pescarolo was at some point, when they also had a Peugeot to race, or even their own chassis (Rebellion isn't a constructor, they buy both the chassis and the engines)

Considering Lola (chassis) is no more, and Toyota has now its own program with a different engine, I'd say Rebellion is more a privateer than any HPD team, like Strakka, Muscle Milk or JRM.

However, they're very professional, they are good at home and on the track, so ... they're big. For a privateer team that is.

Of course I would have been stupid to comment on the Lola-Multimatic partnership without Googling the partnership and it seems theirs no issue from what I have made out.

Multimatic even acquired some of the employees who were with Lola even before the partnership was signed. Mutimatic, as far as I am aware, also have use of the offices and all the hardware (computers, manufacturing machine, wind tunnel etcetera.) and current LMP cars which they will continue to supply teams like Dyson, Black Swan, Dempsey and Rebellion. In effect Lola is all but Lola in ownership.

Did the deal come with naming rights? I can see how Multmatic would want some kind of recognition.

Black Swan arent even running a Porsche in the ALMS next year. I'm pretty convinced that they sold their parts to Dempsey when they hit the AJR Lotus.

Hopefully, they look at the class structure, and for the first year at least, allow LMP1 cars to run with massive restrictors. This way Muscle Milk, Dyson, and possibly Rebellion can still run their cars with minimal modification. Making the teams buy all-new LMP2 chassis seems asinine.
Or I suppose, they could all just go run the WEC or ELMS.

Now thats something I'm curious about- How many teams arent willing to gamble on class structure, and thus, will pack up and move to Europe, where their cars are still eligible?

Black Swan has been really quite all this (last) season, they came into Long Beach with the LMP2, crashed out and were never heard from again.. Tim Pappas did run the occasional race for other teams in GTC, but that was it.

Allan McNish just said on Radio Le Mans that Audi's going 4WD.

EDIT: Sorry, he said the car being tested at Spa was 4WD.

I think it will be awesome to see Manthey Racing tackle Le Mans and the WEC next year. They always run strong at the Nurburgring 24 hours.

So they're going somewhat ala Can Am with the engines?
Manthey is going to be awesome. But a pretty 🤬 move by Porsche to all their customers.

Thats good to hear for Aston Martin fans in the US I was sad when AMR left the ALMS and went back to the WEC. Although it was known they would do so.

Wait a minute... that means Audi is going to have an empty car...

Won't be that big of a deal, will just mean its back to two cars. Remember, they still have Marcel Fassler, Benoit Treyer and Andre Lotterer in one car. Of course there is the question of who would replace Capello but I think they would be foolish not to include a certain guy who's currently testing their R8s.

Maybe its just me but looking at Porsche just getting beat down in the GT category the last few years and seeing them pull the plug on Flying Lizard, I'm beginning to wonder if maybe Kevin Buckler might've finally grown tired of them and it might have been factored in the decision to go with Aston Martin. The fact that TRG stopped being a top GTE program and reverted to a GTC team AND a GT team in Grand Am (again with not alot of success for Porsche) just seems to tell me that maybe theirs a slight bit of a rift going on there. Just seems odd that they would suddenly cut that off all for one two car GT factory program and not a multi-team, multiple series effort with factory support like they have all these years.

I'd imagine it's the same team of people running the cars next year that will be running the protos in 2014. Porsche hasn't had a factory team for a decade and a half. They probably need/want the experience.
Why they need to cut out the rest of the teams, I have no idea. Really not a Porsche thing to do at all.

GT team in Grand Am (again with not alot of success for Porsche)

Except for the Porsche which won 2 of the 3 Endurance events... And Brumos was in the mix occasionally.

I do see your point though. The Porsche was getting stale with BMW, ESM and the C6.R fighting for wins.

Stay tuned, Mazda will announce their LeMans 24hr plans tonight (Dec 1. in Japan)

I hope it's about the Fuari is going to go into development for 2013 LeMans.... That car has alot potential for racing, even if the car is classified as a LMP2 car.

Can't wait to hear what they have in store.

I really enjoy this gap between seasons, purely because of all the speculation and hype surrounding the teams and which cars they'll be running.
