The Le Mans General Discussion Thread

"@jg910: @specutainment are reserve entries standing by to possibly take up any vacant grid spots? #justwondering" nope.. Too late

Well, there goes that. The ACO have been lenient in the past, however...

Talking about playing hardball, taking away everything days before the biggest race of the year. I feel for the drivers and mechanics, but Kolles needs to get this mess fix before Friday.

I could be wrong but isn't there only one reserve car in LMP2? The #37 Alpine A450

It's a shame Nissan and Deltawing couldn't dig out last years car for another crack at LeMans given the Garage 56 car pulled out and there is a potential empty spot on the grid for an LMP2 paced car (which I believe was what the Deltawing was aiming for).

Hopefully the whole matter will be resolved in time for the race. In any case, surely a car that raced at LeMans is worth more than an ordinary racer? Wait till after the race then sell them to get the investors money back.

Nissan have no involvement with the Deltawing now do they?

They never were involved with the DW in terms of design. But Ben Bowbly was aquired from the DW program to Nissan. It's really not an attraction, but rather an abstraction.

Looks like this forum is rather one sided when it comes to LMP1 and GTE-Pro.

Wait you mean there is a LMP2 and GTE-Am Class...:sly:

I'm supporting Porsche. So I'll wait until next year to change my avatar. ;)

And for good reason too, that car looks sexy:tup::)

Well I was going to support the following:

LMP1 - Audi (Although I like Rebellion as well)
LMP2 - Lotus-Praga
GTE Pro - #51 AF Corse Ferrari
GTE Am - #61 8Star Motorsport Ferrari

But from what I have read my LMP2 support will have to shift. Probably to the #41 Greaves or #38 JOTA car.
I'm pretty much happy for anyone to win though.

Any retro Porsche livery would look awesome, I'm betting on it looking like something similar to what is on the factory 991 GT3's now..

Naturally Australia will not get any part of the 24 Heures-Du-Mans.

Any way to watch it.

Will they have a stream to watch from their site?

I've lifted this from Radiolemans, hope it helps.

For the Australians, according to the TV guide both Eurosport and Speed are showing the race in its entirety with Eurosport breaking away for their 24 Minutes program at 0600 and 1700 (AEST). Eurosport aren't breaking coverage at 0200 on the Sunday to show cycling, like they have in previous years. So, yay!

If I remember correctly (and I was a bit drunk/tired towards the end there last year) Eurosport's coverage was commercial free (excluding 24 Minutes), so if they're like that again this year it'll be a toss up between that and watching it in Glorious HD on Speed (if you have it - I don't).

I read elsewhere on the internet that N10 will be streaming the race again this year. Last year I'm pretty sure they took Eurosport's coverage and the stream was rock solid (flicked over to it during Eurosport's adventures in cycling). So if you're lacking Foxtel there is a viewing option there for you.

The ACO Le Mans TV stream was an oddity last year. Very sweaty bloke in a studio basically reading from the timing screen with some incidents/pit stops/etc showin on replay. ACO has said they're improving it for this year, so who knows what it will look like now.

And, naturally, shedloads of teams will likely be streaming onboards, so keep an eye on the assorted social media channels (or, I guess, here) for links to those as they crop up.

So, yeah. Roll on tonight and the start of practice

Oh, and as a quick follow up:

Eurosport is showing free practice from 0200 - 0400 Thursday (AEST) and qualifying 1 from 0600 - 0800 Thursday (AEST).

More qualifying 3 is being shown at 0300 - 0500 Friday (AEST) and qualifying 3 0600 - 0800 Friday (AEST).

On Saturday, Warm Up is from 1700, Legends race at 1800. Speed's coverage of the race starts at 2230 and Eurosport at 2245. Flag drops at 2300 AEST and coverage on both channels continues - duh - until after the race finishes.

Just realized something: From what I've read, Electric cars have enormous amounts of torque. Now recall the primary advantage of Diesels being (apart from Fuel Mileage)...Torque. So my question is this:

Which alternative will have the bigger advantage in Torque?

@Furinkazen: Nissan announces their LMP1 program for the future. Don't know if a full-electric LMP1 will last for 24 hours since it uses some sort of battery capacitor to energise the prototype.

Diesel-Electric hybrids with KERS.

Never ending supply of it.

Both Speed and Eurosports are on payTV which I don't have.
