The Le Mans General Discussion Thread

Rebellion is LMP1, but Oreca is developing their new car and they have other drivers to do the testing (Prost).

It was surprising to see Jani get confirmed before Heidfeld, considering Nick has already proven to be quicker and is also incredibly consistent. I'm also surprised that Toyota didn't make a play for him this offseason, though I understand they were happy with their lineup (but I would replace Lapierre with Nick in a heartbeat if I was running things there). Just like in his F1 career, Nick has been getting overlooked. :(

But I do think he will eventually get a Porsche seat and become their Lotterer.

Lapierre has a lot more experience than Heidfeld in this type of racing. Theres no reason to replace him, as Toyota are rumored to increase involvement next year and at least until 2015. That may be a 3rd car. I think the WEC should expand to allow three cars in lmp1 (if it isn't already -Spa 2013 3 Audi's). Then again, Heidfeld might want to stay on with Rebellion with their new car.

Put Bergmeister and Pat Long in one car. Then you could add whatever third driver you want, it's still going to kick butt.

Looking back on the graph on the previous page, I kind of miss the Audi R10. Such a sleek chassis!

The rumor mill suggests Mark Webber...

On the ALMS entry list- Good to see the Bridgestone Fireworks display will make its return 👍

Speaking of which, any idea as to how many cars they will be campaigning?

I was a bit sad about the vettes this year, but also a bit surprised they managed 4th with those noncompetitive cars.

Not sure if anyone posted jet: The 2014 LMP1 Porsche

It's been posted once or twice maybe ...

As for Corvette, it an old car and they just can't get anymore out of it. New car for next year should fix this.

It's not off pace all because of age, otherwise they wouldn't be competitive in ALMS.

It's the new tire they haven't quite got the car set up for.

4th is a good result for #73 given the pace, strong late charge. :)

Nice snaps man! Better than mine, I don't know how to use my camera >.>

Btw, I'm in some of your photos haha http://i1175.photobucket.com/albums...s 2013/1047897_4370520040319_2039797012_o.jpg Grey hoodie on the far left with the ear phones.

If you noticed a group with a Orange Ford GT btw that was me xD

Cheers! The more times you go the better you get ;)

You got yourself a nice spot at the end there then! I was at the straight before the ford chicanes at the end of the race so I had to walk pretty far to get to the podium!

Sadly didn't see any Orange Ford GT's though.

Edit: I guess I should also admit I had to delete about 30 pictures of an empty track where I didn't take the picture in time :dunce:

Maybe they should remove that rumble strip there? (I believe that is what was causing everyone to spin)

I don't think the rumble strip needs to be removed. However I do believe the trees do. I truly think that if the barrier was able to absorb the impact, instead of being next to a rock hard tree Allan would still be alive.

I agree with you. The fence being next to the tree is what caused Allan's passing. However, both should probably be removed. Because after seeing three cars in one lap spin there, it seems like an easy problem to solve.

Yeah but surely by that theory all rumble strips should be removed, i do see where you're coming from though and I guess both areas need to be improved. It has definitely been a massive wake up call this weekend and one thing for certain is that changes need to be made.

I agree. Cut the trees down or at least move the barrier well away from the trees

Yeah that isn't allowed to be posted..

Why not? This is the Le Mans thread and death is a big part of motor racing... its on topic

I wonder if there was a gravel trap there if it would have slowed the impact down a bit? I don't understand why they have these stupid run off areas, I don't think its safer at all.

xStretch-

Be that as it may, one of the stickies points out no crash videos allowed in the sub-forum, but discussing it I doubt is a problem.

Errr....

I know it's a bit extreme, but this is a General Patronage site, and crash videos where a driver dies, even if you can't see them dying per se within the video may be a bit too much for younger viewers.

Please be advised.

Please remove it.

What a stupid rule and the fact some of the older guys here even stand by it is really pathetic. I'm sure there were many kids at the race watching it, death is a part of life...

But anyway back on the topic of safety, I hate run off areas lol

It's one thing to discuss it, another thing entirely to post it, besides most of us have already seen it so there was really no need to post it.
