The Le Mans General Discussion Thread

It seems Lapierre brought shame to his Family (team), and they've had to pick off a car

Is it wrong that the first thing I thought after I read this part was "Now he knows what he must do"?

If you're asking why the Rebellion team isn't running at Limerock, it's because they're putting most of their resources toward the new 2014 car and the 2014 WEC. It's unfortunate. I think they plan to run one or possibly two more ALMS races before the end of the season but it remains uncertain.

Lame. It makes sense, though. Why develop toward a series that is nixing its LMP1 program.

I must admit, something bugs me about what's happening with Sebring. It seems wrong to have Austin as the American WEC round rather than Sebring. I get that they don't want the huge grid that having that race count towards USC and the WEC would bring, but it just seems like what's happened with F1 in recent times; shunning classic races for new venues... :(

I didn't realize that was happening. This is disappointing. To be honest, though, maybe it's just me but I'm a bit surprised WEC would run any race with DP cars on track. Can't imagine with all the bumping tomfoolery DP cars do, what chaos closing speeds of audis are going to wreak.

Except the Audi's wont be on track with the DP's as there's no LMP1 class in the USCC.

I'm not sure this is really the right place but there wasn't a specific American Le Mans Series - Round 4 - Lime Rock Park thread, so I figured I'd post here.

Some pictures from race day. Here are some of my favorite shots. There's a lot of them but I've downsized them so it shouldn't take long to load. You can view the complete set from my FLCKr page here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/82213146@N06/sets/72157634517794823/

Wait so WEC is invited to participate, but can't even run their full class system? I don't want to live on this planet any more...
I think there was 2 different races on the same weekend.
The WEC event and the ALMS race.
I may be wrong.
2013 will be 2 separate races ALMS Saturday for 2.75 hours and WEC Sunday for 6 hours.
What a great weekend ticket that will be.

Great composition in those photo's.
I really like this one, looks like the 50's/60's era of racing.

Well considering IMSA and the USCR have the 12 Hours of Sebring license as well as the 24 Hours of Daytona, 6 Hours of The Glen, and the Petit Le Mans, the WEC isn't allowed to race any of those events. COTA is a new venue, so it will license to both the USCR and the WEC as there is no historic race yet there. It's not shunning classic races as much as it is American series taking all the historic races in America which I definitely agree with.

There's one extremely important flaw in your logic:

Sebring as part of the WEC was also part of the ALMS season.

I think he is saying that it will only be COTA, since the WEC don't want more than one U.S. event. Problem is there are so many historic U.S. sport car race tracks as there are in Europe, that limiting one isn't right. However, you're right Sebring does put a kink in his logic at this time.

I'm talking next year going forward. You are correct though. If I'm not mistaken, Sebring wasn't a wec round this year though.

Personally, I'd rather see the wec go to cota rather than Sebring or Daytona. Cota is an actual road course rather than a roval or a couple of airport runways with some turns.

Exactly, it's going to CoTA this year, which is why we're having this discussion in the first place. 👍

I prefer Tilke-dromes* over tracks with history and character too.

*I do actually like CoTA even though it's a Tilke-drome. Point still stands though.

History aside, Cota although tilke-drome esque, looks like a lot more fun to race. Just look at the f1 race, Aussie v8, and grand am race there. I'll be watching when the wec shows up too.

What was that doing in an ALMS race?

It is a fire breathing Kia! ;)
Few from me for now..

Thanks for the photos, Mac.

How did you do in the weather?
Some of those drivers looked knackered for sure.
I thought Tucker might die, and that's not from almost going off every corner for those last couple of laps. :scared:

Someone asked earlier in this thread about the TRG Aston Martins.
I talked to a TRG team member at the local Dunkin Donuts and this is what he told me.
They were actually at Lime Rock this weekend.
They are the 2 cars that TRG is running in the World Challenge events.
