The Le Mans General Discussion Thread

ALMS has a video of the crash on their Youtube channel, the title is disgusting and totally unprofessional. It seems like something you'd see in a montage of NASCAR crashes made by a 10 year old..

The double exclamation marks are perhaps over the top, but otherwise it's a fairly accurate description of the video's contents.

Obviously something like "Porsche crashes at Virginia International Raceway (5/10/2013)" might be more appropriate, but you get what you get.

As much as I hate when someone decides to put exclamation marks in the video title (Which is as much as I hate posts where every sentence has them), that's unfortunately what generates traffic.

I will say one thing being there, that was nasty!

This was my first time at VIR or watching ALMS live. It was amazing how nice and open things were for fans, the track is awesome! Falken Tire by far has the hottest grid girls and super friendly too. My camera isn't nearly good enough for most pictures but I had some good ones.

Overall I was amazed at how fast the P1 cars are going into turn 1 when closing on any other car. I sat between 3-4 so I got to see 1-4 which was nice.

I would have called this the worst wreck of the weekend if poor Dario didn't have his incident.

I think it looks worse than it actually is, but it easily could have gone another way in few different ways. I was happy to see everyone just walk away.

Am I the only one who thought some of the local cautions are weird like during the Porsche race they had a guy off in turn 2 but had safety working on moving him out of harms way while race really never slowed?

The ITC race? I think its just the way the lower series work I guess. Seemed a little off to me. I was extremely happy that I got there in time for some support races though.

I saw myself on the ALMS broadcast and got excited haha.

Jeez I can't wait to watch the race replay of this track. Dario's crash was probably worse --even though this one looked more intense--just because he was flying head first into fencing in an open-cockpit indycar, and he did not *walk* away from the car, he left in a stretcher, from what I could see. He was in the car for a while and I seriously thought we were going to have a sad day at first. I like Indy but I don't see why they race at ovals, the way they get airborne and shatter to bits (which I guess is to absorb the impact but still). I like street circuits but you could argue the same thing about them being unsafe. Sports cars seem relatively safer but who knows, "the big one" can happen to anyone....scary stuff.

Does anyone know where I can find a sticker similar to the Allan Simonsen tribute one the SRT Vipers have? I've been looking high and low and can't find anything..

Even a few months on the Allan Simonsen crash was a real downer on my first Le Mans trip. I hope next year nothing like that happens

I've been looking Mac and I can't find anything :/

Completely understand what stretch is saying. The atmosphere was so strange. That was the first time I've been to a race where a driver has died and I hope I never have to experience anything like it again.

Petit Lemans will be broadcast by Fox Sports 1, rather than ESPN and my trusty live stream, ESPN3. However, Fox Sports claims there will be a live streaming of the event, but they don't specify where. Does anyone know if Fox Sports live streams on their website?

Was anyone aware of this? Or am I just now hearing about it? (see bold)

The updated Nissan ZEOD RC benefits from a more streamlined shape with optimized cooling and improved aerodynamics. Although billed as an electric vehicle and not a hybrid, the ZEOD RC pairs a 1.6-liter turbo four with a pair of electric motors. Its regenerative braking system is derived from the Leaf RC, and after 11 laps, it's said to be capable of taking another around the Circuit de la Sarthe under electric power alone, making it the first racecar capable of doing so. Nissan has further stated that it hopes the lessons it garners from this project will help in its development of a new LMP1 to challenge for overall victory at Le Mans in the near future.
Nissan Press Release
Nissan is using the ZEOD RC as a test bed to develop new electric vehicle technologies for Nissan's planned future LM P1 program.

They make it sound like you can stream the event through their mobile app, Fox Sports Go, but you have read the fine print. It's tied to your cable or satellite account. Since I don't have FS2 from my cable provider, the mobile app will not allow me to watch FS2 content. And from what I can tell, ALMS.com will block anybody from inside the continental US.

So it's back to searching for dodgy illegal streams if you want to see the race.

Weird, I read it'll actually be broadcast on both FS2 AND FS1 :odd:
