The Le Mans General Discussion Thread

The best Road Atlanta/Petit Le Mans video I know of is this one. I captured it in HD and have it stored in the HDD of my PS3, t watch every once in a while. It really captures what endurance is all about.

I do love the Road Atlanta track. Became familiar with its layout with the PS2 game "Le Mans", and you just got to love the first and last turns, the ups and downs, the twisty bits and even the long back straight. I don't think there's a flat piece of track apart from a few meters before and after the S/F line.

I just hope the american fans of the ALMS may enjoy a proper farewell of the series but from what jjaisli wrote I think that'll be difficult if you aren't there.

Weird, I read it'll actually be broadcast on both FS2 AND FS1 :odd:

Yes. Sort of.

FOX Sports’ coverage of the race on Oct. 19 begins on FOX Sports 2 from 11 a.m.-noon ET, including pre-race activities and the green flag at 11:30 a.m. for the 1,000-mile (394 laps)/10-hour time limit race.

FOX Sports 2 resumes the broadcast from 2:30-6:30 p.m

FOX Sports 1 will continue live coverage from 6:30-8 p.m., before FOX Sports 2 picks up with the conclusion beginning at 8 p.m. ET.

Live coverage of the entire event will be available on FOX Sports’ new mobile application, FOX Sports Go. [Provided you log in with your cable or satellite account details and you're signed up to receive FS1 & FS2. If not, you don't have access. That's the part that they don't tell you.]

FOX Sports 1 will also broadcast a three-hour highlight presentation from 4-7 p.m. ET on Sunday, Oct. 20.

Live streaming of qualifying on Friday, Oct. 18 will be available on ALMS.com beginning at 1:50 p.m. ET. ALMS.com will then offer a complete live stream of Saturday’s race to international audiences.
I have Fox Sports 1 (which used to be Speed) but not Fox Sports 2. My cable provider just started to offer FS2, but it's only part of the 'Gold' package which includes all of the movie channels, premium channels, etc. And, at least at this point, it's not even broadcast in HD. I was considering ordering it just to watch the last race but I would have to sign up for the Gold Package for a one month minimum and it would end up costing me about $50. Considering it's not even broadcast in HD and they're not showing the whole race, I just don't think it's worth it.

Indeed. I've never driven on the track but I was there for the Petit a few years ago. The elevation changes at that track are much more extreme than they appear to be on camera. It really is a roller coaster.

As for the TV broadcast, so long as you get both FS1 & FS2, you're fine. If you don't, you're out of luck. I went through this for the last 2 years with ESPN, with most of the races broadcast (live) on ESPN3. Since my cable provider didn't carry it (at any price), I didn't have access to ESPN3 on-line. Ironically, just about 2 months ago, the Apple TV device now carries the ESPN app and, more ironically, I now have access to ALL ESPN feeds, and I never had to sign in with my account. Right when Fox signs a 5 year deal for the USCR. What can I say. I'm going to stick with my current avatar.

In the mean time, WEC is at Fuji. Aston topped practise in GTE, and Audi had a setback:

Yep, that was the No.2 Audi in first practice, Duval collided with the no.95 Aston, they went on and claimed top spot by 0.5 in FP2, set by Duval.

Since there's no dedicated PLM thread, I'll just post here that:

P1 - Rebellion got pole easily, over 1 full second to 2nd place (MM)

P2 - David Brabham clearly came over to PLM to show he's not past it. Fastest P2 car in a very close battle among HPD cars.

GT - Round 1 for Ferrari, the entire field is separated by less than 2 seconds. And the Vipers (2nd and 3rd) are quick.

Not sure about P1, but P2 and GT look very promising. 👍

full quali times -----> HERE

Sorry if I sound abit pushy here, but has anyone here seen my video I posted?

Hope it rains honestly to see Falken Tire show their magic! It's really the only GT team I follow.

Does anyone have an idea where I can find their shirt with the weird pattern since the ALMS store isn't working now.

So I just tried to look for that app and oh joy, I can't find it :grumpy:

Edit: Found it, but I don't see anywhere how I'm gonna watch the race on this stupid App.

Screw it, I'm just using the dish app I already have.

As I'm typing this, it's raining now. It should be a damp start for sure.

We're sitting between turns 5 and 6, across with the Mazda bridge over turn 8 behind us. I can confirm it is raining on the track, and current forecasts are saying not clearing until 2PM.

That's a good spot. It's fun to walk on the Mazda bridge as cars are going by underneath. I also like photographing from the bridge.

Could anyone with a live stream of this event please post it here? I've been looking for a live stream, but I can't find one with internet as slow as it is right now for me.

I always use alms.com/camera/live-broadcast for ALMS races.

Very interesting statement by the ALMS announcers, the Rebellion P1 car is carrying a data chip that records the in race telemetry. This data chip will be given to IMSA at the end of the race. Why does IMSA need P1 telemetry?

Thought that was interesting too. Why the need for data from a class that won't even be here next year?

Maybe since there won't be a class next year, might be important data to try to have P2 faster maybe or see what the difference could be between the cars over a race?

2hrs 30 left in the ALMS. HPD retired, Rebellion in command. Beretta has had an off from the GT lead.

I'm just happy to see them pull off the GT win! It was great to watch them show they can even outside of the wet.

It'll probably sink in Monday, but right its still hard to believe that was the final ALMS race I just watched. Phenomenal race though, just as action packed as I'd like 👍

Now waiting for the WEC race to start.

Edit: Its going now. And what do you know, its starting in the rain  Interesting, the title sponsor for the USCC is being shown at Fuji.

Great finish, Congrats to Falken for that GT win after trouble early, gritty performance by them.

It's really sad to see ALMS bite the dust, I'm going to miss it...

Some memories:

2007 12 Hours of Sebring: GT finish

2009 Laguna Seca: Magnussen (Corvette) vs. Bergmeister (Porsche)

2008 Utah: Intersport vs. Audi

2012 Road America: Closest finish in ALMS history

RIP ALMS
