The Le Mans General Discussion Thread

GM had a prototype in the early 2000's.

Forgot all about the Cadi and the Northstar V8 it wasn't that great but not horrible either.
Apparently the Porsche was in Le Mans trim and the Toyota was running high downforce.

Don't see why they needed to test Le Mans trim when they are given plenty of test time at Le Sarthe for the race...

Can't wait till next year when Nissan comes back to Le Mans with a P1 car. It would also be nice to have the Peugeots back in the mix so we can have 5 factory team in P1. Anyone knows why Dodge, Ford, or Chevrolet don't make a P1 car?

I would say its probably the same reason Ferrari hasnt made a P1 car in a very long time. They're already involved in plenty of other motorsports. Also, most people in the United States have no idea what Le Mans is. Ford winning Le Mans would have very little meaning to alot of people back home.

Why would they be in a different trim for Paul Ricard, I mean I know it's testing but there is no reason to really run such low down force trims here especially in lieu to Le Mans when they'll be testing them there anyways.

Its something they've always done, I've seen works P1s run Le Mans downforce at Spa in a championship round, so it doesnt surprise me at all that they're doing it in a test.

It could be an illusion, but the Toyota looks a lot thinner than the Porsche and Audi.

I find it ironic that you mention the best rivalry for Americans at Le Mans.
Not in those words but you do mention Ferrari/Ford.

That was certainly a great time in sportscar racing and probably rivals todays American spectator in numbers.
NASCAR excluded, of coarse.

Even with NASCAR, Ford winning doesn't seem to mean much around here anymore.
It's not Ford, it's the spectator/society.

Fans do like our Corvettes, though!!

As far as I can tell, the big three rarely have had any desire for a prototype and the only time they did was during the GTP era. There was a GTP Corvette owned and run by Rick Hendrick (which was a lola with Corvette cues and nameplate) but apart from two wins, it had little success.

There was also the Ford Mustang GTP, which first debuted in this form:

The Zakspeed Variation known as the Mustang Probe:

And the non-factory supported, Roush Performance developed car called the Mustang Maxum GTP

In all, only 1 win for any of these cars (The Zakspeed car) makes it abit less successful then the Corvette GTP.
How did they get away with calling those GTP Prototypes "Mustangs"? :dopey:

Yes but Spa is twice the size of Paul Ricard and has areas that are similar to Le Sarthe thus it makes much more sense. And is not comparable reasoning to why they did so today, unless they were just short runs to get slight reading on how it behaves which still wont help nearly as much as the long runs Le Mans testing provides.

3 big boys! :mischievous: 👍
Wrong order, that blue one at the back should be leading, and the one leading should be broken down in the pits somewhere :P

In other news, REBELLION have got their livery back! Yay!
