The Le Mans General Discussion Thread

As I predicted ;) - David Brabham on Midweek Motorsport. He has got the Brabham name back from a German group after a seven year legal battle and to motorsport, specifically the WEC. David is aiming for an LMP2 model and then LMP1. However they are going for community funding / involvement as a quote "open source racing" model so everyone involved from engineer to fan can get involved.

Edit / Updates:

Engineering students helping on an LMP1? OMG.

3 Years in P2 first probably.

So basically, a Real life Project CARS. Still, great news to hear 👍

You would think after the first season of returning to a category for the first time in a long while with a car that the last thing you'd want to do is suddenly scrap it for something new. Then again, this wouldn't be the first time Porsche suddenly said "You know what, let's start over"

Keep in mind, that was with a car that was already winning to begin with.

Ah the RS-Spyder....the only LMP2 to beat the mighty Audi's. :D I forgot about the first version of that car. Can't wait to see what Porsche come up with for the "new" 919 Hybrid.

Ohh, how I miss this car. Easily my favorite LMP of all time. Hopefully whatever Porsche comes up with will get them back into the winners circle.

According to Toyota's PR, Nicolas Lapierre will not partake in Fuji with the #8 Toyota due to "personal reasons". What say you? Is this a real personal issue,or is he being 'sat down' because his performance (ie, in the wet at LM & Austin)?

I'd say Fuji, likely to rain, and Lapierre has a tendency of throwing the car at the scenery when it rains.

Next years WEC schedule has been released. Interlagos is off the calendar due to the pitlane renovation not being done in time, and other reasons for their originally scheduled race in August and Nurburgring will replace it.

My initial google search for the schedule ended up putting me on motorsport.com (:dunce:) where they claimed the series would span 4 continents in 8 races. I couldn't figure out what the 4th continent was... considering it's only 3.

No it does not. Two years ago they ran Silverstone 6 hours in July with no problem at all for the teams. If they needed more than a month they'd be a bunch of amateurs.

Yet again, WEC running Silverstone in April is asking for trouble with the weather. :banghead: It should be July even if that only precludes the chance of snow.
