The Le Mans General Discussion Thread

That's ONLY if Button doesn't get a ride in F1 next year.

It was reported on the BBC that unless he stays with McLaren he out of F1 because he's not interested in being in a mid table team to make up the numbers. (Makes me wonder what he thinks McLaren is right now)

The one interesting rumor however that may (or may not) be true is supposedly, he's signed some sort of contract with Honda (who is going to supply engines to McLaren) so depending on how true that is, he'll likely stay (especially if Honda can produce the Turbo power necessary to keep up with the train that is Mercedes).

I'm watching the Asian LeMans Series Highlights... a 3 hour race, with a grid of what... 7 entries across all 3 classes? And they keep bigging it up on TV... am I missing something? It just seems embarassing.

Well it is based off the Japanese Le Mans series and the Japanese are not particularly good at accepting failure.

It is. The organizers are simply far too arrogant to realize that you need to slowly grow a series, especially a sportscar series in a region with (Japan aside) little sportscar history. They have yet to establish their product with any sort of fanbase or groups of teams, and yet they refuse to be second billing during a weekend and refuse to cooperate with the successful sports car series in east Asia (Super GT and GT Asia). They even scheduled their Fuji race on the same day as the Suzuka 1000km...

It's just a mess. A pan-asia sportscar series was always going to be a struggle, but the people in charge of this one are completely out of touch.

Yeah, I'm watching GT Asia now and it seems a little more lively. The Asian LMS director did admit at least that there had been 'scheduling issues' which they have 'learned from'.

He is also quoted as saying at the US GP he is not interested in being in a 3-car team. I don't see him being in the WEC since it is a team that runs 3 cars at the top class (or it should if Porsche and Toyota want to compete with Audi).

I'd say he means 3 car team in F1. 3 cars at Le Mans in the WEC and 2 cars everywhere else is a very different thing indeed. I don't see them as being comparable. There is a fundamentally different ethos in Sports Car racing to F1.

If things go well for Toyota and looking at their practising times right now, it's a big possibility Toyota will be world champion this year. Now let's see if Audi is again bringing three cars to Le Mans, if not that could be another hint of them quitting WEC.

Edit:
Lol nice going for Porsche and Toyota in qualifying :P

Bad luck for Bruni/Vilander. Simply at the wrong place at the wrong time when the KCMG Oreca suffered a sudden total systems failure. Bad luck for Turner/Mucke with the engine failure too, and it all completely fell into place for Manthey this time.

If Audi and Porsche are playing checkers, Toyota #8 is playing chess with nothing but queen pieces. Fantastic performance again. The #8 is a metaphorical wrecking ball. Except when Lapierre is driving in the wet, then it becomes a literal wrecking ball. :embarrassed:

Lapierre was on the pitwall as well. Had it not been for him, the #8 could have won every race so far. Does he really think he deserves a drive with the team?

He's great when it's dry - but the rain man, The rain.

The way things are going I think Toyota is gonna win this years manufacturers and drivers championship. I hope they finally win Le Mans next year.

I'll be very surprised if they don't! Totally agree about Le Mans too it would be great to finally see them win it.

I think the #8 Toyota just gotta finish 5th in Bahrain and if the #2 Audi finish no better than 2nd then the #8 Toyota should win the drivers championship.

If Jenson goes to WEC next year it'll make my mind up as to whether I am going to Silverstone or Le Mans next year. It'd absolutely great news for WEC if he does!

Not completely. Porsche are rumoured to be planning a third car for LM and maybe Spa. Porsche have said that they would prioritize their own GT drivers for a potential third car, but you can't be completely sure where there can be headlines made.

Also, nowhere does it say that their 2014 drivers are confirmed as full season drivers for 2015, only that they will drive the car (at some point). If a high-profile F1 driver becomes available for a full season, one of the 2014 regulars could be demoted to a third car for LM/Spa only. Though that would be fairly unscrupulous of Porsche, I doubt that'll happen.

How is it not a confirmation when it says they are retaining their driver line-up?
