The Le Mans General Discussion Thread

The same 2011 race we all were..

How did a car take out lotterer when he won the race?

Also why are you talking about a crash involving lotterer and then post a video of mike rockenfeller's crash?

Also those weren't 100% the ferrari's fault in each of the crashes you mentioned in fact in nearly all of them it was 80% The LMP drivers fault just during the cars down the inside expecting the cars to give way when that isn't in the rules.

Did you forget something? I said "and then the other aimlessly turned into Lotterer."

If you watch the on-board and the Ti24 Doc, you'll find that he flashed the lights three times in two patterns to warn the slower car..

Problem is, that wasn't Lotterer. That was Rockenfeller (which was the point he was making, if abit excessively).

The Ferrari could never be blamed for McNish for instance, after all McNish would have had no idea a car was there, and neither the Ferrari would have expected it.

I would like to mention not a single GTE car has full rear view mirrors due to amount of monocoque and tubing forming the rollcage. All the cars have TV consoles to see out the back of. Now I'd be more pre occupied in all honesty with keeping my own rather expensive GT on the road.

Also @Swagger897 to point out your lack of research, the Ferrari driver involved in sundays crash said after Webber had already lost control before he hit him.
Post 2010?

And just to make it clear, I never said the car caused it, I said "even if it didn't cause it, they're always in the picture..."

Whoops... Name didn't match the face of whom I was thinking about...

I addressed that, you didn't see it..

I don't feel like bringing out the rule books from 2011 and on, and I'm about to leave for class so troll all you want while I'm gone..

If anything, that was a racing incident. Mcnish didn't see that Ferrari until he was around the other Audi and the Ferrari didn't see Mcnish until boom!, off they went. No one can really be blamed there. Same for the wreck involving the 99 Gainsco car and the Stricken Ferrari at the Rolex 24.

Calling me a troll when i'm stating facts, nice

Well when its something catastrophic like a sudden suspension failure happening at full speed, you aren't ever going to prevent that from becoming a serious crash.

troll, berate, nag, reproach, chide, etcetera... all the same, choose your favorite. I wasn't specifically talking about last Sunday's incident rather than all incidents including a 458 and LMP1. Even whether or not they caused the incident or not.
I'm also most certain that all incidents (with 458 GT's) pre 2013 never had the AMOLED reverse cameras such as Audi had that year.

They all obviously have mirrors, and should be using them nonstop... If they believe they can hold off an LMP then they should be taken out of the car.

What are they supposed to do, not look forwards?

Storm in a tea cup, if this was a pub you'd be all shouting

"Dude I said Rock-en-fe-LLER !!!

You did not!

I Did !!!! Rocken-Lot er... -Fel-ER!!!!!!!! SEE?

not really, I was just picturing Lotterer when he said "am I next" in the doc while they were showing Rocky's crash.

I believe we are both old enough to figure that out. I am sure you use your mirrors while driving, the occurrence of it is unknown to me. If you look when Jann Mardenborough (Sorry if I spelled his name wrong) started at Le Mans in the LMP, he was constantly looking in his mirrors. Granted that was the start of the race, it shows that he was aware of his surroundings through the majority of the first sector. Yeah no one does that for their entire stint, but at least every corner and straight a check is in need. Whoever crashed Davidson never really gave it a second though to stay on the left lane.

I was surprised watching the LMP2 onboards on sunday how much mirror checking the open top cars were doing.

Whether that's sarcasm or not (because I don't know how much you watched) it still goes to show how often a 458 gets collected in a accident, even if they started it or not. I don't recall in the seven-eight years I've been watching ELMS-WSC-ILMC-WEC, whatever its name has changed to, a car being involved in accidents with cars much above its class..

In the few races the WEC has, it's becoming a common trend for a 458 to crash out someone's day.. (imo)

Swagger, granted there's a difference between a Ferrari and a Vette. The Ferrari bites. Just ask Anthony Davidson, a guy that only now Corvette fans are beggining to forgive. And a guy that got seriously hurt because the Ferraris are too solid to vanish when Mr. LMP1 wants them to.

Still, I haven't seen that many Vette's get into trouble with them, Aston's, or any other car... And each accident isn't a light rub, it's a guaranteed DNF (whether they start it or not).
Some have their own opinions to it, that is mine... I don't like them as it's a buzzkill to the competition when it's an early crash.

Now here is something interesting I found here.

Interesting things to read (And hear). Now I may be abit too early to make such an optimistic guess, but I wouldn't rule out the possibility that they end up being the team that Nissan returns to Le Mans with. Its a team that can run some great operations (Prodrive Ferraris, Audi Sport UK R8s, both championship winners) AND it wouldn't be the first time Nissan has relied on a UK based team to run its Le Mans Operation.

I am quite sad that Howden is stepping down... I wish he would stay another season or two..

I've always wanted a pair of those carbon fiber glasses he had (I don't even wear optics either...)
Already have them
