The Le Mans General Discussion Thread

Personally, I think they should change the rules slightly to say that all of the cars must be road legal in France and capable of getting over a speed bump, as to me that seems the whole point of sports car racing. Turning it back into a 90s style supercar series would not be a good idea.

And that championship would die after about 2 seasons, or the category 1 and a half if lucky.
Well, if all entrants are invites only, it would be up to ACO to decide who races each season.
Since a mfg driven class would be updated prior to each season, a class like that could change according to demand.

And the categories serves no real purpose then, as people are not competing for anything.

So you want companies to invest what will be 10's of millions into 1 race for the chance they may get to enter (which is basicly the same format as Le Mans already is but they team it up with Tudor/ELMS/ALMS so companies have more use than one race out of the cars)

Hey, not sure if you guys realized, but the SRO are basically going to have glorified track days for those hyper cars and development vehicles like the Veyron, 918, Ferrari XX cars and P1 GTR. Link here

I'm not too confident it'll get very far. Not sure why, but something just tells me it isn't gonna be long before its done.

Take everything you know and love about lmp1 and throw it out the window

Seriously, I know Turbo told me not to say this, but Nissan is planning on doing some real dark ceremonial stuff pre-race. They're gonna burn three mock ups of a Porsche, Toyota and Audi while dancing in a circle around a big war drum and a lot of fire before baptizing each driver in blood and full synthetic.

Decent step in the right direction but would be cool if there's an official series of stock hypercars with slick tyres and a fair BoP.
I suppose because just the name of GT1 will have that association of a rather bad past with it?
GT3 and GTE cars are cheaper that's why they have lots of competitors and why people stopped using GT1's, not because GT1 are bad or something.

But all those new hypercars and no race series for them looks like a waste to me. Call it GT1 call it how you want it, it will still be cool.

Yes it is. Aston DBR9, Maserati MC12, Saleen S7R are more expensive than a Porsche GT3.
No they aren't a vantage GTE is 100k and approx 50 more man hours to build compared to what a GT1 DBR9 was. Also then V12 Vantage GT3 has to be cut apart and another section added in to make it longer whereas GT1 cars used the standard shell.

GT1 died because the cars weren't user friendly for the AM/gentleman drivers, also some of the teams with lower capacity engines were complaining too hence the max 5.5 litre in GTE.
