The Le Mans General Discussion Thread

I didn;t know you were a moderator  - people are allowed to have a little bit of humour sometimes. And if you look down at Mulsanne Corner, there is speculation the car may not even require a rear wing.

Unfortunately there isn't a smiley for 'you have missed the joke'. :P
In all seriousness, whilst I bow to Mr.Fuller's expertise, I bow lower to the letter of the regulations.

How wrong you are.

There is a difference between 'movable' and 'flexible', and it's open to the stewards interpretation.
For example the ZEOD's flaps were 'movable', and that was fine in G56. Whereas the TS040's Le Mans rear wing was considered 'flexible'. [edit - I am not certain, but I think the 'in motion' bit has been added for 2015 to cover this very instance.]

Japanese Autosport interviewed the head of Dome industries and he said there are benefits to the front engine like braking regen. If its fwd or even front engine, it will be advantaged in efficiency of that area. If its fwd, drivetrain losses will be lessened.

I'm planning to attend the Austin race in '15 but if the Indy event comes to fruition it be even better for me traveling wise.

...and aero advantages...

Dumb idea: front-biased AWD? Maybe FF with a petrol powerplant plus electric power to the rear wheels? High-speed stability would be good, at LM for example, but I could see aerodynamic drag being an issue with the required frontal area.

Gee I wonder why..
Because building a road circuit in the middle of an oval after that oval is built - rather than planning road circuit and oval together - and treating the oval as a boundary seriously limits what you can do in the first place.

Although I suppose the merits of racing at Indianapolis depend on the configuration used. IMS have made tweaks for MotoGP and IndyCar, so if they're interested in a 2016 date, they could do the same for the WEC.
