The Le Mans General Discussion Thread

Did hey change the WEC schedule at some point? I remember the Radio LeMans guys talking abot it at the begining of the season and discussing how the WEC scheduled Bahrain on the same weekend as Pettit LeMans...

I'd still like to know why Rebellion is rocking the WEC, while Dyson have been so slow in basically the same car...

And JRM gets owned, yet Muscle Milk has the EXACT same car.

Makes no sense. Maybe it's a matter of "Oh, you have Chris Dyson? Thats cute. We have Nick Heidfeld."
Smith-Dyson or Prost-Heidfeld-Jani-Bleekemolen-Primat?

Luhr-Graf seems like it's a pretty even driver pairing, against Chandok-Dumbreck-Brabham

I think is more of a case of the team in general in the case of the HPDs, I remember watching the JRM guys literally finishing up their car in the pits at the start of Sebring while Muscle Milk was ready and running strong. Strakka was also way off the pace at Sebring, but Muscle Milk was looking at a 3rd place finish for a good part of the race. In the case of the Lolas Rebelion runs a Toyota V12 while Dyson runs a Mazda 2.0 4-cylinder Turbo. Plus Rebelion has probably a better understanding of the car.

Perhaps it's the engine slowing Dyson down?

Or Dyson once again not running the car like the manufacterer wants them to. They often have a tendency of going "Screw this, I'll do it my way" and it never works out. Remember the RS Spyder? Dyson couldn't even keep up with the Acuras at the time in the same car as the Penskes were running. Years later, Muscle Milk basically buys one of the former Dyson Porsches and guess what? They actually won a race and were keeping up with Highcroft.

I'm guessing that Lola Cars isn't calling any shots right now... at all. To anyone.

The thing with JRM is that they are a new team to prototypes. They're completely the different from GT1 cars. When you compare them to Muscle Milk it's going to look bad. Muscle Milk has experience running prototypes, while this JRM's first year running a prototype. Lots of stuff to learn about the car when it comes to engineering.

So compare them to Strakka. Same result, but Strakka doesnt have nearly the driver lineup.

Muscle Milk should've been the HPD team to run the WEC! They pretty much destroyed the gasoline powered competition on Sebring, I'm pretty sure they would've taken it to the podium on every race and perhaps steal one from Audi!

You're missing the point. Strakka has also been racing prototypes for a couple years now.

Exactly. Why does Strakka suck, but MM is fine?

They SHOULD have been Honda's team.

New Subject:
Is there any rule that says ballast cant be Liquid? Using a series of reservoirs and piping, I think Audi should work on "Active Weight Distribution". Have it be automated, etc. I can see that making the car very easy to handle. I think they run the most ballast.
It would have to be a fairly lightweight system...

Mercedes used to do this on DTM on the 90s till it got banned. It wasn't a fluid but just moving arround the ballast itself. Offcourse with every new mice comes a new cat, so the sanctioning bodies got smart and now ballast need's to be fixed, some classes go as far as specifying where ballast go while others give the team the liberty of choosing where is securely placed.

IIRC ballast is specified to consist of a certain material (lead) and their placement specified pre-race and subject to scrutineering. So no moving ballast allowed.

Round 4 of the WEC at Silverstone is underway, practice sessions 1 and 2 are finished. Audi, Toyota, Audi in LMP1 for practice 1. Audi, Audi, Strakka (HPD), Toyota in practice 2.

Great, now that same destructive class is coming to ALMS. Does the ACO enjoying ruining the Prototype battles or what? Also, do we really need another class? Thats now 6 classes and I thought 5 was already pushing it.

I'm not really big on the idea of the GT AM class in ALMS unless they get rid of the GTC class so that it's back to just five classes. I do like what they are doing for the Asia Le Mans series. i think it's cool that they are going to allow GT300 class cars to compete.

I think so too, its a smart move as Asian team entries in any Le Mans Santioned series/events tend to be no more then 2 so this is a good way to up the class count in GT.

I'd eliminate GTC, or at least open it up for cars other cars besides just Porsche Cup Cars. They could always allow the GTC teams to run in GT AM at a "discounted rate". On the plus side, this means more potential entries for the ALMS and more money pouring in essentially. I'm on the fence with it though, I'd love to see more entries, but at the same time, 6 classes just seems like to much fluff.
