The Le Mans General Discussion Thread

I'm heading there in the morning. If I would've taken 1 extra day off of work I could have seen it. Maybe they can repair it...

Woot!

Nissan DeltaWing ‏@NissanDeltaWing
The @NissanDeltaWing is working on the damage and we expect to be back on track in the morning.

Whoa! Looks like a scary one! Hope the tub is ok and they can get it up and running for the race. I don't like the car, but appreciate all the work and effort behind the car. Get it done boys!

Dang it! Falken Tires was doing a twitter contest to win a tour of their paddock tomorrow. The question was how many national anthems would be played at the grid. They hinted that 22 was "very close" so I guessed 23. The answer was 21... :/

Tomorrow they're doing another contest to win a hot lap before night practice! That would rock! :)

I hope this isn't the start of some trend for the Deltawing :/

Seems people can't stop running into it.

Makes me wonder if the car is too light for its own safety... Lighter is always better as far as performance goes, but when a 3,000 pound Porsche hits a 1,500 pound? Delta Wing guess who's gonna win! The incident with the Toyota at Lemans was a healthy hit, but would it had sent any other car flying off the way it did the Delta Wing? We don't know how serious the Porsche hit was, but I wonder if it was just a brush that again sent it flying off...

And now for some PETIT LE MANS news ...

Wednesday practise for prototypes is over, here the top ten:

I get the feeling this is gonna be Rebellion vs Muscle Milk, with dyson barely keeping up. Just think with Rebellion having more then one car, they actually have alot more parts in case trouble occurs whereas Dyson is royally screwed should something happen.

GJ tells how it all happened

Too similar to what happened at Le Mans ... guys must paint the car in shocking colors (pink? orange?) or else 10 hours in heavy traffic will be scary!

Its already in a standout color. Hell, it stands out alone in looks. How do you not see it?

Anything would be better than the current "Batmobile" livery. Check this one, created and posted by an autosport forum user:

I'm worried about the Deltawing into the later hours of the race, particularly around sunset and when it's dark.. It's going to be pretty hard for the other drivers to see.

not any harder than the ESM car was at Sebring...

I wasn't aware plain black was considered a livery  I'm just saying how do you not see a black car in broad daylight with a black fin on it? And where the hell are the spotters?

As for the fan made livery, it looks abit too close to the Corvette livery. Besides, whats wrong with its livery now? Looks just fine.

That mock up Delta Wing livery looks like a Mazda livery.

That too.

I have to say Gunnar is one lucky SOB!! Thank you Dr. Sid Watkins another life saved!

After watching the video I stand behind my point, this thing is plain dangerous on track and quite irresponsible of the organizers to let it run...

Looks awesome! But too similar to the Corvette livery.

There is nothing dangerous about the design. When you get a 7G lateral impact to the left rear flat out in fourth gear going over the crest fo the hill - you are going to be in trouble no matter what you are driving.

Quoted from the Highcroft channel on Youtube. I don't know if I can necessarily agree with this myself but it does seem pretty logical when given the facts.

It was a decent hit. Looks like the Porsche got a little loose on the rumble strip and swerved into the Delta Wing.

So it wasn't a visability problem. Which makes all the reactions a tad overreactive.

So because of just two crashes (one caused by a driver who's known for his questionable spacial awareness), its automatically "Dangerous". Then by that observation, the Audi R18 is plain unsafe since its crashed 6 times(Half of which ironically involved a Ferrari and a driver that shouldn't have been racing in the first place). Sorry, but thats extremely overreactive. Yes the way it happened was scary, but its unnecessary to blame the organizers for allowing it to run just because of two crashes.

I can name several drivers from other series that can back that up, including some formula 1 drivers so I would say thats a valid point.

Lol! Maybe you're right, I might be overeacting and yes I also do think the current gen of P1 cars is quite dangerous in traffic. But there's a reason some car classes never run with others, and speed is not the issue.
