Yeah, I had that problem earlier, too, I just had it mapped to the wrong buttons. GT3 is actually weird on the buttons. In TOCA2, I had the shifters set to R1/L1, that's what the game recognized when I pushed/pulled the shifter. So I set it up that way in GT3 (forgot to save my settings last time).. R1/L1. Lo and behold, the damn shifter wouldn't work.. hehe. So I set it back to "Default" and it mapped to R3/L3, and it's shifted just fine. I've decided to use the sequential shifter exclusively rather than the paddles.. seems more "real", ya know?
I had it "blink out" just once so far, where it just stopped working mid-race. I reset, blew off the connectors, etc, and it's been fine ever since. I got it cheap, refurbished, so I wasn't really expecting a no-problems experience. But I've used it for hours and hours and only had that one problem. Otherwise, it's fantastic.
Driving GT3 is like a whole new game now.. hehe. Even in 200 degree mode, the degree of finesse is incredible. I think I'm finally getting the hang of it, since I actually started winning some races with it today.
And did anyone else notice the replays are better? The motion of the car is super-smooth compared to what it was like before, just
gliding around the corners. Gone are the days of the DS2 "tap-tap" steering adjustments.
I bet my tires will last longer like this, too, since the overall steering is so much smoother.
I definitely need a stand of some sort, though. Right now I've got it locked (somewhat precariously) onto my coffee table, but that thing sits so damn low that I've got to drive all hunched over. Anything more than a half hour or so, and my back starts killing me.
I figured out the trick to learning with it, too. Learn to
drive with it first.
Then learn to race. Take a slow car out there, and putz around the track for a few laps. As you figure out the intricacies, you'll notice your lap times get noticably shorter each time. I wouldn't call myself "good" with it yet (only got it yesterday, after all), but I'm getting there.
