i forgot to mention my brother uses a DS2 and i use the old driving force. but i think it was probably figured out.... YAY i just went platinum

Update is that I'm not going to be able to enjoy racing the Driving Force Pro. Too expensive, but I'll try to hope I get a Mad Catz Universal MC2 steering wheel. But I'd still want to race with the DFP at a store or something.

From what I gathered, the DFP is pretty much the same as the DF in regards to GT3, since that game only supports 200 degree mode. Some people race it in 900 for some reason that I can't quite fathom. It makes the cars virtually undrivable.

I was looking at a lot of other wheels myself, John.. the final selling point that sold the DFP for me was the 900 degree steering. No other wheel has anything close. I think the widest-turning MadCatz wheel only goes 270.

I found a link the other day for a refurbished DFP for... I want to say it was $55, plus shipping (which, I believe, is about what the MC2 Universal wheel costs). Which, naturally, I found a day or two after I'd bought a refurbished wheel off Ebay for $75. I'll find the link and edit this post with it.

EDIT: Here it is:

http://www.ictcompany.com/store/productinf.asp?Item=LGT-DrFcePro

This IS a refurbished one, and could be faulty. They mention that they've been "tested, found to be in perfect working condition, and repackaged." Which means there could still be a problem with it. The one I have was, I believe, a previously faulty wheel that had been physically repaired by Logitech and redistributed. However, this one does have a 90-day warranty (which is actually longer than the warranty on mine). FedEx/UPS Ground at around $16 (to my place, at any rate). So you can probably get the whole shebang delivered for around $75 or so, maybe less. I'd start looking really hard between that and the MadCatz.. hehe.

John, all i can say is dont do it.
The only wheel designed to take advantage of the direct input 900 steering is the DFP, anything else even the old DF are Sh't in comparison, and you may as well stay using the DS, im pretty sure only the DFP supports the linear steering, all other wheels use the same steering assist as the DS (although not 100% sure of this fact, anyone?).

All i can say is do what ever you can, to scrimp, save, beg and plead, even sell your soul to the devil if you have to, to get hold of the DFP, even if it takes a while it will be worth holding out for, over time it will also reduce in price.
Anything else is going to be a big let down or waste of money, (believe me been there done that 3 times over), if you are looking to get the same sort of experience us DFPers are getting.

Well, in the summer of 2004 i bought the old Logitech driving force because i couldnt afford the Pro yet. And now i have it for christmas. If you dont think you will be gettting the Pro any time soon, the old driving force isnt a bad idea.

I just got my DFP yesterday. The thing is awesome. Like Jedi said, GT3 is like a whole new game again. I'm getting the hang of the thing slowly. I did the licence tests over again to learn the wheel. Now i'm even more hyped for GT4.

I have the wheel clamped to a small stool that is about the height of a coffee table and i'm just sitting on some cushions on the floor. Very simple and it works quite well. Feels like i'm sitting in a race car. I will eventually get something better cause my legs start hurting after playing for a while.

YESSSSS I got the DFP for Christmas today! I love it. The first half hour i didnt have anything to mount it to. I had it in my lap and i was like oh god i need a table so bad so i stole one from my sisters room. Now i have a nice sturdy table and a good computer seat its so much better when the wheel is mounted to something solid. As for many of you not liking 900 degree mode in GT3, I dont mind it, i actually like it better than 200 degree beause the car is soo much smoother. Although its bad for rally and drifting because you cant turn the wheel fast enough to respond, but the replays are much more realistic looking because the tires arent turning like mad. cant wait for GT4 Baaby

That is so true!
I wonder if GT4 is going to be the same?
Maybe if the wheel provided a faster response it wouldn't be so bad, but as it is, I'll stick with the default/standard 200 degrees for now! :-)

I also recieved a DFP for Christmas today. It is so awesome! I also prefer 900 degree mode over 200 degree mode in all games because of the added control, smoothnes, etc. I am so happy! It is so cool.

It Isnt the same for GT4.
The old DF operates like a DS with steering assitance, which regulates steering by the amount of input you give to the wheel, I.E the position of the wheel doesnt relate directly to the position of the cars wheel, merely the speed which the game turns the angle of the steered wheels.

The Driving Force Pro, the steering is a direct input, and the angle of the steered wheels always relates directly to the position of the DFP.

Another update - no steering wheel for John-boy here. Oh well, I don't NEED the DFP, but would have been nice to have some kind of wheel for racing. I know how cool the DFP must be, but I'll just go old-school with games. I guess that's just me.

hi..I´m gonna buy my dfpro today
I think it´s a little too expensive for ps2 wheel, but i hope ,dfpro is really yhe best wheel... 👍

question as far as shift selection with the new wheel..........for anyone........are you able to pre-select the gear you are looking for, with either the paddles or the "stick"?

With the shifter being a sequential shifter...all you have are two options...up or down..and that's it! :-)

Still a damn good wheel though in my book! :)

yeah, its great. pretty sensative. only thing is sometimes when im not carefull it bounces back down or up a gear if i flick it to quickly and too hard. Like in that video with Nakaya from Best Motoring International.

Just overall the wheel and shifter feels very professional. It feels so real i think i might need to buy some racing gloves... Im starting to get a blister from drifting in 900 mode in LFS. :indiff: The pedals are so so.. Sorry for double post :guilty:

how is the resistance in the pedal? If I ever got into a car and the pedals felt like most PS2 pedals I've seen, I would assume that the throttle cable & master cylinder attachments had broken.

I've heard of people attaching something squishy to the bottom of the pedals for extra resistance? is this true?

The pedals are just sprung.
The accelerator is ok, its single sprung but most cars throttle pedals are not stiff.

The Brake pedal is a different matter, in real life, brakes are pressure operated by pedal input, if it went to the floor you'd crash.
In game, foot to the floor simulates full braking.
The pedal is progressive dual sprung but still isnt very stiff, ive heard of people stuffing things behind the mechanism to firm it up more like real life, but the pedal still needs more movement than IRL.

Is the Driving Force Pro the best wheel out there?.. What's it's competition??

Honestly? It doesn't have any, at least not for any console. And as far as I know, it's the only wheel in existance that has 2.5 turns lock-to-lock (aka 900 degrees). I don't know if even the PC wheels turn that far. I think the only "competing" wheels are for PC, and wouldn't work on the PS2. And cost twice as much.

Can Anyone owning the DFP and has GT4Prologue as well as GT4, give us a comparison of the two titles dynamics through the DFP?
Is there much difference and if so, is it better or worse?

It is the best as it is the only wheel fully designed to give the true experience of GT4.
Any thing else currently available does not function the same and does not give the same input or feedback.

it's the best wheel for the Ps2, and probably the best wheel for the PC for under $500 if not the best of them all.
