I found DFP's on Overstock.com for $70, just got to decide if I should go for this whole factory-reconditioned thing. Id really prefer not to pay $110 locally for one. I guess if it goes out in the first month or so I can always return it...

Thanks for the reply, Ikari_San. Are there any links to any pictures of the inside, so that I know what it SHOULD look like before I start tinkering?

Sorry I don't have any pics, but the laser sits behind the large black cog on the right side.

Just had another thought - the rack may be be off centre. Since the rack controls where the extreme left and right are this may be affecting it. Press it down and slide it to the left or right to change its position. You basically want to get it where the large semi-circle pieces (that are attached to the steering column) pass as close to the stopper on the rack that blocks it from rotating (about 1mm gap on either side). It might sound complicated but once you get it open it should make more sense.

Well, I know that Ikari :) Point being that it has never calibrated itself on power up until last week and it has continued to calibrate itself since. I mean, what's changed? Same wheel, same copy of the game, same PS2 with two DS2s plugged in. I couldn't understand why it wouldn't calibrate itself, but I'm even more puzzled now as to why it has suddenly started doing what it should have done in the first place!
Alan

Sorry I misunderstood...not sure why the wheel didn't calibrate in the first place. Might be something to do with the order you are connecting the wheel and turning the power on? eg. if the wheel is turned on last , or just as the game is booting up etc.

Who knows?

OMG!! not to offend anyone but to like a wheel for the Center badge :dunce: and just think, someone on this board COVERED that lovely badge with a HONDA badge :ill: 👎 👎 :yuck:

Speaking of the badge, did everyone "christen" theirs by removing the plastic sticker? :)

Aparently Logitech won't honour the warranty if you tell them it's a re-con. I suppose you don't really have to tell them, but they will check the serial number to see how old it is so you may not get it anyway.

Well, I will take the dive and buy a brand new one from the local game place. I would have had it today but I fell a couple $ short (literally, I was $3 shy of what I needed). With tax it actually comes out to like $163! Im trading in some old Playstation 2 games toward it so it'll be down to $143 when I pick it up tomorrow. Hopefully I really enjoy this wheel cause it'll cost me. But atleast I can do something about it (or attempt to) if it craps out soon. DFP here I come!

sorry if im changing the subject but do you use two feet or one when your racing?(like right
foot on gas and left foot on brake)I see all these videos with people using their left and right foot but wouldnt it be more realistic to use only one?

If you only have a throttle and brake, use 2 feet. ==> left foot braking. Why do you say that it is more realistic to use only one foot?? F1 uses 2 feet all the time. They brake with there left foot. Rally car drivers uses their left foot to brake while they're still aplying a little bit of throttle (to keep up the RPM).
Modern racing is more about 2 feet instead of 1 foot. DTM (Germany), a couple of weeks ago, I was watching the DTM. Heinz Harald Frentzen had a camera mounted next to his feet. He used both feet, braking left and applying throttle right. They use their left foot all the time.
So I would say that it more realistic to use your left foot (both feet). :)

I use one foot, it feels more natural since that's the normal way to do it in RL.

In racing situations 2 feet obviously works better but the DFP pedals aren't wide enough apart , it just feels too cramped to me , and feels really unnatural!

i ordered mine on friday from buy.com. Cost: $107, including shipping and tax .It says that shipment will take 7-9 days with FEDEX Ground Service, but Androos told me it was at his home within 48 hours!

So may be you want to try this alternative! Good luck!

omg... it varies on the situation. most breaking in rally cars is done with the left foot because the clutch is auto but sometimes they right foot break whenever they think revs are going to drop drasticly so they have a their left foot free for the clutch.
In autosports where the clutch must be pressed to shift properly, of course most breaking will be done with the right foot. :dunce:

since their's no clutch in GT4, it all comes down to preference and there is no wrong or right way. only fast and slow.

Follow up on my DFP:

Ordered on Friday, before lunchtime, at buy.com for US$107,60 (incl. shipping and tax)

Arrived today in the afternoon, despite originally delivery time was supposed to be 7-9 days. 👍 👍

Great price, First class service! So far I can highly recommend buy.com!!!

Div is back
Just got my DFP, on what settings are yall on?

I'm on simulation and power steering OFF

I think I have mine on amateur right now, power steering on, feedback on mild. Im still practicing with it on photo drive and stuff...

Hello all.

Is the Logitech Driving Force Pro PS2 steering wheel really that good? Has anyone had any faults however big or small? I do not want to purchase a steering wheel that is destined to fail after a couple of months with GT4. Are there any other wheels you can recommend with a stick shift?

(My old wheel does not try to turn back to the zero degrees position anymore).

Regards from Don Luigi.

Can I just say that power steering ON is by far the most realistic setting, the wheel can be WAY too heavy with it OFF. It does tend to depend on the car and the tyres though, but still power steering ON feels much more like RL.

Be prepared to have to fix your pedals by shoving some putty in between the pots to stop them touching eachother. Not difficult to do though, all you need is a screwdriver. There is no "warranty void" protection either, so you can tinker all you want and still get a replacement.

The wheel itself should be fine though, I've had 3 and they have all been built well.

Sketched out a bunch of plans. Threw out most of 'em. Built this one in about 3.5 hrs. Made the plans with all the dimensions and building tips available for a few bucks on it's own site http://www.clayzinator.com/

Had some GT4 addicted friends over. They liked it.

Just like to say that I ordered my Driving Force Pro today with my first paycheque from work :dopey: and I even paid £12 for delivery just so it gets here for Saturday :sly:. I ordered it from Ebuyer and overall it cost me £81.21 or something with delivery etc. Im quite excited, feel like a little kid on Xmas Eve. I'll post my views in this thread on Saturday, thats if I'm not spending all day playing :)
