Huh? So you've had to replace two of them? That's "well built"?

Please elaborate a little.

The wheels were all perfect, just the pedals werent so that's why the wheels went back (they only replaced the whole lot, not the pedals alone).

If you have a decent PC. get Richard burns rally, LFS, or at least try the demos.

Remember Richard Burns is on PS2 as well!

Speaking of RBR, I just noticed that if you use 540 degrees steering you lose too much sensitivity because you are controlling the same amount of steering lock with more rotation of the DFP, and I think it is a little unrealistic. To remedy it I use 605 degrees steering lock in the car setup (i.e 504 being the default degrees lock for the standard 450 degrees at the DFP, which is the same ratio as 605 degrees at car setup with 540 at the DFP). That way you get the same sensitivity as using the default 450 @ the DFP (which the game is really programmed for), but you get extra sharp steering if you choose to use the extra 90 degrees to get 540. This is for the PS2 version only, the PC version might be different.

Ok people, I need some tips. I got the DFP, and as I don't have a driver's liscense, it's a little hard sometimes. I managed to get 3'09 in le sarthe 1 with the minolta, and I know it's not the fastest I can get.

So...

Can the speciallists of you give me some tips? It would be greatly apreciated!

hmm, practise practise practise!

Not sure what to say...just gotta do things earlier and smoother, maybe start off slow and gradually get faster and faster. Use the throttle to control drifts, if you lose control point the wheel where to want to go in advance and be ready for "the flick".

Practising with one car at a time can help, maybe drive something a little slower than the minolta to start with? I dunno...

GT4 is a piece of cake compared to RBR though :)

Just like to say that I ordered my Driving Force Pro today with my first paycheque from work :dopey: and I even paid £12 for delivery just so it gets here for Saturday :sly:. I ordered it from Ebuyer and overall it cost me £81.21 or something with delivery etc. Im quite excited, feel like a little kid on Xmas Eve. I'll post my views in this thread on Saturday, thats if I'm not spending all day playing :)

Turns out Ebuyer are so crap that they arent even going to deliver it to me today, and maybe not even Monday. I pay all that money for a quick delivery and I dont even get it. Last time I am buying from Ebuyer 👎

If you're in a Minolta, you shouldn't be drifting ;)

My suggestion is decide early on if you want to drive with low or high force feedback, and stick to it. I've unintentionally been driving all along with 100% force feedback, but I find that I can hardly drive if I set it down to the lower setting because I can't judge how much I should turn the wheel. I assume it would be the same if it had been the other way around.

What I did when I first got the DFP (a couple of weeks ago) was I went into the arcade mode, picked out a car (Audi A4 Touring Car) and drove it on an easy track (High Speed Ring) to get the hang of the basics - how much input for what effect, basically. I drove a couple of laps on that track until I could do it without making too many mistakes.

Then I took the same car out on the 'Ring and drove that until I could get decent times. I'm still not down to the same kind of times I had with the DS2, but I'm getting there I think. First lap on the 'Ring I came in at 8:40, now I'm driving around 7 minutes with Super Hards in Gran Turismo mode.

I was using my dfp and i heard something shatter.....it still works....but force feedback seems to be affected...anyone else experience this?

Obviously the game is a piece of cake to those who played it since GT1...
Still the best there is.

I don't drift with the minolta, it's just that I can't for the life of me understand how some people get those awesome times! They are just better I guess.
Oh well, practice make perfection. Still, I think 3'09 with the minolta stock in Le Sarthe I is nice for starters...

I just got my DFP yesterday, and let me tell you it is a blast. I was just playing around with it this morning, trying to get used to the Force Feedback, and decided to take my Sauber out to La Sarthe 2. I start the practice session and everything is going good, I get out onto the Mulsane (sp?) straight, and the wheel is just jittering, and I'm fighting to keep control (I'm a one handed driver and I actually had to use my other hand to actually keep control of the car). Anyways for thise people who do not have one of these should think about investing in one. 👍

I've heard from a reputable source that if you turn off the rumble feature for the Player 1 dualshock that it reduces the crazy wheel kickback in this instance. I haven't tried it, though.

What's the average price for a dfp now? I'm considering buying one, and i'd like to know how much it's going to cost me. I've seen it for £65, is that a good price, or should i look elsewhere? Also, if i sold my old wheel - Fanatec Speedster 3, how much would i get for it?

Thanks

Btw, the dfp for £65 is here: http://www.savastore.com/productinfo/product.aspx?catalog_name=Savastore&product_id=10282026&pid=44

Savastore is the cheapest I have seen it for in the UK, even taking eBay into account.

Is the Speedster for PS2 and Xbox? Youll probably find you will get bugger all for wheels selling them on second hand...

If you don't like the intense wheel shaking when driving down the la sarthe straights at max speed:

1. choose a circuit with a flat road!

2. use 2 hands and hold it still!

3. turn the FFB down

You can also reduce straight-a-way wheel shake by being in 900 degree mode. The shake on straights in 200 is a little unrealistic imo.
The DFP in concert with GT4 is unbelievable. The physics are overall very good.

Actually I think the intense wheel shake is funny. I get a kick out of it everytime I go down the Mulsane straight. I do use two hands, and no way am I turning down the FFB. Also to the other guy, I do have it in 900 degree mode.

Ok thanks! It's nice to know where i stand on price :). The speedster is for ps2 and ps1 only. It has sensitivity in the wheel, which is adjustable, and very very slight sensitivity on the pedals, and i mean slight. It's practically resting your foot on it lightly.

I too enjoy the wheel shake, I'm just sick of people complaining about how unrealistic it is.

Fully support your statement. I think it is far LESS realistic to assume one would go down Mulsanne with 250 mph and just one hand on the steering wheel...!

Gabkicks
yeah, but it doesnt shake anywhere near as much in real life. lol. its a fact. anywayz....

Buy richard burns rally

I once had a tiny blister on my tire in RL and the wheel was shaking like crazy even at low speeds. I've also noticed wheel shake during braking on some cars in RL. I think it is entirely plausible that wheel shake occurs in RL as it does down the Mulsane Straight in the game. Keep in mind that on flat surfaces in the game the wheel does not shake, it only happens when you get a series of bumps hitting the tires at extremely high speeds, it's not like once you reach a certain speed the wheel just automatically starts shaking, it comes and goes down the straight based on what you've driven over. Also it does not happen unless you are driving at ludicrous speeds.

people who have driven down the mulsan straight in real life with some very fast cars say the car reacts too quickly and the steering is too jumpy compared to real life. I can probbaly get the video clip if u dont believe me.

i dunno. ask tiff needle. you can look it up on the net. :) I just took a sleeping pill (its 3AM) so i'm not all there mentally

ATTENTION!!

if you own Richard Burns Rally or have the demo installed, someone has found a way to correct the laggy response some people feel (like me)
http://www.bhmotorsports.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=32307

It makes the game much much more fun. The car actually reacts and i feel completely in control now. I can scandinavian flick the car at will now. :) I thought my driving style was like that of sebastian lobe but turns out its actually Tommi Makkinen i'm closer to. :)

Finally got my DFP on Monday, and I have to say that it is amazing. I am so happy that I spent my cash on it. I'll prob buy a seat and stuff from Ash Designs for the full experience. I love using it with LFS2 as well. Overall, very impressed, better than I thought it would be, no problems yet, 10/10 👍

I agree with you 100%, there isnt a wheel that can beat it as far as I can see. I got mine the same day that I got GT IV, never regreted the $$$$ that I had to spend that day. I find myself useing the padel shifters more than the stick shift, sometimes the stick shift can be a little hard to use if you dont have the wheel mounted to anything. I got the lap attachment from Logitech, its ok for now, but I dont have the funds right now to fork out for a seat, but I will soon 👍

I finally decided to get one of these, because I can't really justify paying anything over $100 for a gaming accessory. And I got a great deal:

http://www.pricegrabber.com/user_sales_getprod.php?masterid=2266931&lot_id=555495&mode=googlegfr

Refurbished, but it's still nice. Came in the original box, no manual (though I've heard people saying the manual is useless), packaged and all. Works great and it's CHEAP, with free shipping! :)

...though I really suck at GT4 with the wheel now. Takes practice.
