Ladies and Gentlemen!

Welcome one and all, to the Long Race Series forum's, Driver's Snug.

I've been pondering this for a while, and think that it's about time that we had a place all of our own, to meet up, have a chat, ask for advice, have an argument (friendly of course), an off topic discusion, or just shoot the breeze.

Feel free to treat this as your own thread, keep it tidy, keep it clean-ish, and within the AUP, pick up your litter, but basically anything goes (Bar the usually taboo subjects of politics and Religion).

Let your hair down, have a beer, have a natter.
This way we can all keep track of conversations and keep the race threads freer of clutter.

If it gets used enough, I'll get one of the mod's to 'sticky' the thread

Neil

Great idea Neil. Always nice to have a place to hang one's hat, or helmet, and enjoy a refreshing drink and spirited conversation with friends.

lol, just noticed a interesting word amongst your vocabulary. interesting thread you have here.

Oh yes, I love this idea. +Rep. :) I do this for every racing series I have, usually dubbed as the "Discussion Thread". Good show to loop us all in for one show. I'll prolly frequent when GTP is slow elsewhere. :D:tup:

Cheers,
Jetboy

Hey Neil, my wife doesn't look anything like that, but that's sure a great depiction of me!!!!

Welcome back Andy! I was wondering what had happened to you. Glad to see you are back racing. And yes, the dogs are great therapy indeed. 👍

Thanks man, after not driving for a few weeks I thought I'd be quite rusty but I actually drove better then I had been prior to the operation. Maybe cause I've been uncomfortable for some time while driving and also after not driving for awhile the thrill returned. Anyways it's great to be back, I even took my Chevelle out today for a few hours, the rumble of that V8 with headers and duel Flowmaster exhausts really puts a smile on my old mug, puts me in the mood to jump in the GT4 cockpit.

 Hiya! Just me having a beer, clearing my throat, after a long and winding race at Fuji.

Done with the Pesca. One stopper RS/RM. Taking the Ford GT LM Spec II for a spin tomorrow. See you all tomorrow!!

Well, maybe this would be the best way to pitch an idea or two out, than to go through the long process of writing a thread and having it shot down.

I'v been playing a lot of arcade GT and using the mid-to-higher end cars and I noticed there's quite a few in or around the same PWR. Cases being the Zonda C12 7.3S, Honda NSX-LM, Saleen S7, VW Nardo, and a few others around the 550-600 hp and 1230-1300 kg marks. I was thinking of a racing series with multiple lap races including strong tyre wear and healthy AI competition. Any thoughts?

Cheers,
Jetboy

Hey,
Anyone else catch some of the Super GT action from Fuji yesterday on Motors TV?

Was definately not an incident free 500 miles.
Crashes, spins, car-on-car bumpage action, fires.......etc,etc! :)

Was a fun watch, but unfortunately not very informative as far as lines are concerned. It was obviously on the latest itteration of the track, not the one we're using in the LMS.
I'll say one thing tho, it looked a LOT wider and had an amazing amount of elevation change compaired to the GT4 versions.

I know it's hard to depict hills etc in 2D, didn't think it would be that obvious!

Neil

I don't know if anyone else is running GT4 on a PS3 or not. It's a little aggravating that you have to set the HD every time you fire up GT4 on the PS3,but the picture quality is definately better on the PS3 if you use a HD telly. Although the PS3 now supports Force Feedback it most certainly has a different feel then the PS2, also using 16:9 instead of 4:3 changes how you see the course and changes your steering input a bit, takes a little getting used to. Ya'll will love the graphics in GTHD, but the vehicle handeling is quite different, sorta like the difference from GT3 to GT4. I haven't played GTHD very much since there's only the one course, but if your into drifting (I'm not) you'll love how you get scored on each corner, there's a bar graph at the top of the screen and the better you drift the fuller the bar gets and points are awarded. Still no damage but maybe GT5 will have it. After each lap your time is uploaded and you are ranked, you can also view the replays of the top 10 times for each car in both directions of the course, it certainly makes the cheating aspect a moot point, everyone can see your replays, and in most all the top times the drivers are taking some grassy shortcuts, stuff that would never stand up to WRS scrutiny.

I'm still waiting for a bit to get my PS3. For a number of reasons.....

1 - getting married ain't cheap:nervous:
2 - Need a 24" HD ready TV/monitor to play it on:)
3 - The price is still over the £400 pound mark ($780ish)
4 - GT5 will (probably) be the only game I will play on it, so there's no rush:indiff:
5 - getting married ain't cheap:scared:

Also if the misses get's off her arse and gets a job, I'll probably get one for Christmas! :sly:

Anyone looking for a great deal on a PS2 NTSB version? I've transfered everything onto the PS3. The PS3 is also great for storing photos and music. When you break it down the price is really quite reasonable considering you get a Blue Ray disc player, a game consol, a media center and a web browser with a 60 G hard-drive, not to mention the Playstation store where you can purchase and download new games. Heck a Blue Ray itself is close to a grand. I think I paid $699.00 plus about $75.00 for a wireless router.Anyway if somebody is in need for a PS2 I'll give you a great deal.
Hey Neil, when are you gonna start spelling tire and curb the correct way:)?
I'm gonna sorta miss your Balls handle . That didn't sound too gay did it?

We invented the language, we speak it correctly, we spell it correctly. Only the yanks would remove letters from words to make it easier for your kids to pass exams!
ie : Colour = color, favour = favor
Or change the letters coz it's confusing,
ie : tyre = tire, kerb = curb

Not my fault! :D

Oh and it's about time everyone else knew, so not too gay at all!;)

Neil:)

What colour is yer balls handle? Is it next to yer arse? Is that what a "wanker" is?* Is it a lot of labour to haul it around? Does it fit in yer pyjamas? Most of all, does ya 'ave a sense a humour?

*There's your opening, mate.

Unfortunately, a 'Wanker' is a someone, not a something!
So, it's a little difficult to explain without breaching the AUP or insulting your president. :D

Let's put it this way, Phil Collin's called either Crocket or Tubbs a wanker in Miami Vice! In either case, he was right.
But, because it's a very British insult, the producer's and the censors missed it completely!

C'est La Vite!

Neil

Ah, but in calling someone a wanker, you are indeed comparing them to something, no? Therefore, a wanker is both, yes?

Producers and censors didn't get it? I'm shocked!

Oh, and though no offence was taken, let's not forget that George & Tony are nearly interchangeable!

True, True!

No offence meant anyway bud.
Thankfully, Tony Blair has just resigned as Prime Minister, and we are getting someone that at least doesn't look like a By-polar sufferer in a perminant manic phase.
Tony grin's his head off even when announcing bad news, and sending our boys off to fight. Not good!

Anyway, enough political stuff (Taboo subject).

Neil

Correct Neil on the Taboo statement. I had a long post ready that was very political and Anti Bush but I deleted it.A couple years ago I made an Anti Bush remark and got alot of flak from some of our conservative members here so no more politics here for me.

If I can draw out this awkward conversation on politics just a little bit longer, I'm all for anti-Bushism and I'm a Republican. Perhaps if I liked Bush I'd be a little quicker on the draw to knock someone down for being a... well, let's say wanker... but so long as your criticism of Bush makes sense and isn't just "I hate Bush because he is named George which is the same last name as Tony George and he ruined American oval racing so therefore George Bush should be hanged for war crimes!" than I'm good. You're really just insulting yourself if your distaste for ol' Jorge Boosh isn't well based, or at least based on "good intel."

I'm sure I'd like ol' Jorge as a person, likes to Golf, loves Texas, I think he's a NASCAR fan (well, we're not all perfect!)

But I digress. Political chat - over.

m.piedgros

aye, m.p., there's the rub, an argument without backup is just simply bashing, where one with it is worth listening to . . . be it politics, cars, or whatever 👍

Not to change the subject at all............

But, has anyone else seen the new TV advert for the Skoda Fabia?

It has to be one of the best ad's for a car I have seen, since the ones for the Jaguar range a few years ago!

Opens with some bakers and confectioners, being very busy in a big kitchen.
Julie Andrews pipes up with 'My Favorite Things' from The Sound of Music,
And the bakers etc, build a car out of cake, biscuit, marzipan, etc.

They even use sheets of sugar glass and light caramel for the graduated and full 'pale tint' windows, and Jelly (jello, for the illiterate's:D ) for the light clusters.

Fantastic! I say!
No fancy camera work, or computer generated somersaulting cars, no mind bending psudo-philosophical or surreal clap-trap.

Just a good idea, well executed, and best of all....Very memorable!
I'll see if I can find it, online, and post a link in the morning.
Look out for the ad and the link, it's worth a watch.
HERE'S THE LINK TO YouTube!
Neil

Sorry,
Not being a pain, in changing the subject. And feel free to hurle insults at Andy's wife's car (which he secretly loves to drive:sly: ) all you want!

But the blintz's and pancakes have been going down well, and I'm thinking slightly Amsterdamerish! :)

T.K.

WE'll have to find it on the net, since we don't get cool stuff like SKODAs (well, at least they're cool now), or the dad-blamed Fuji coverage you told us about the other day either, now THAT was a bummer! The ad sounds cool though!

Can't we just say gelatin and all get along? Oh yeah, we have to pronounce that one differently too! It's amazing that we're allies . . .
