So from what you're saying, the sponsor for the top NASCAR series gives the title a bit of a oxymoronic tone to it? Fist time I heard of a critique like this, but I was thinking it would take a bit longer before I heard someone say something along the lines of it.

Sydney’s longstanding Oran Park Raceway will be farewelled in grand style next year when it closes the 2008 V8 Supercar Championship Series as part of a special tribute to one of the oldest race circuits in Australia.

Oran Park was today named the final round of the 2008 Championship after owner Tony Perich declared the track will close in 2009 to make way for Sydney’s huge western boom.

The grand final has been allowed to move to Oran Park for a one-off season ending after Phillip Island was chosen to stage one of the two premium endurance races next year. The traditional 500 kilometre endurance event will be run at the premier circuit prior to the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.

The two changes are a feature of the calendar which has expanded to 15 rounds including the non-Championship Australian Grand Prix. This makes it the same Championship duration as 2007 with 14 rounds.

Oran Park has hosted the final round of the Championship in its’ hey day. It is one of the historic venues in the Championship and will next year host its 38th consecutive round of the series in an unbroken sequence dating back to 1971.

“We wanted to do something special for Oran Park and the people of Sydney,” V8 Supercars Australia Chairman Tony Cochrane said of the move to install the venue with the final round.

“Oran Park might be ageing as a facility but it is still one of the most spectator friendly tracks in the country. This is a one-off move to give one of the great circuits the appropriate send-off.”

V8 Supercars will work together with Oran Park management to make the round a truly special event. There are plans to return all of the winning cars and drivers from the past 37 years.

“We will invest heavily along with Oran Park into making this an event not to forget. The place has so much history and culture we really want to send it out with a big bang,” Mr Cochrane said.

“We would also like to think that in 2009 Oran Park as one of the oldest track in the country can be replaced by the newest – a street circuit around the Sydney Olympic Park Precinct.

“There are still strong plans for Homebush {Sydney 2000 Olympic site} and I believe we are edging closer to convincing the State Government that it is a winner. What better way for Sydney to finally give the Championship a truly world class event.”

The Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit will host the first of the two endurance races next year with Sandown Raceway reverting to a sprint round format for 2008. Sandown Raceway has not always hosted the 500km endurance event.

“Phillip Island is undergoing constant refurbishment and upgrade including the latest extension of the pit lane facilities which make it even more attractive for our teams and fans,” Mr Cochrane said.

“The decision to hold the endurance event at Phillip Island was one of long-term planning. Phillip Island is a motor sport venue that will be there for decades and we are looking to be there for that time.

”Phillip Island is also applying for an international track licence which adds to our Championship and the teams’ ability to include overseas drivers for the endurance races.

”With the V8 Supercar Events becoming the promoter of the 500 we plan to re-launch it with new initiaives, a new sponsor and a weekend for the fans.”

With the return to the Australian Grand Prix, V8 Supercars now feature four times in Victoria. The Grand Prix is a non-Championship race but nonetheless an event that showcases Australia’s most popular form of motorsport to the world.

V8 Supercars will also make its debut in Hamilton New Zealand next year with a sell out 155,000 people expected to pack the brand new circuit. Tickets are expected to completely sell out well in advance of the April race.

The 2008 calendar features an earlier start than usual with a significant break in the middle largely due to Seven’s broadcast of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

The Clipsal 500 in Adelaide begins the year as usual from February 21 to 24 followed by Eastern Creek in Sydney. One week after Eastern Creek is the non-Championship Australian Grand Prix.

Just got shipping confirmation from Play Asia, my GT5 Prologue disc left Japan today :):) My christmas is complete already:) Hey Neil, yours left Hong Kong today from that company you found, it's on their website , now we'll see which store is faster, they both say 3-5 days unless it's picked for inspection at customs. I'm betting we'll both be driving it by the 19th.
Have any of you other guys ordered it yet? The Japanese version which is being released tomorrow is region free and will work everywhere. Guess they shipped a day early knowing we wouldn't have by tomorrow when it's in stores in Japan. Could have bought it as a download from the Japanese Playstation store but couldn't figure out how to fill in the credit card info being it's all in Japanese. I'd still want the disc anyhow in case the PS3 crashes and burns. I saw a Feb.18, 2008 release date for the US. Nothing better than GT in HD :)

With no PS3 or money, thats kind of impossible and as for the PS# crashing and burning, Like thats gonna happen:P

Are you serious?! Where did you see this?

Saw it at Amazon, they're taking pre-orders now. I'll get the English version in Feb. but for now I don't want to wait that long to start. I need a head start to keep up with most of you guys, although it didn't help me for GT4.

Region free? That's good to know. Though my money is on that game being primarily in Japanese unless it has a lot of languages to choose from.:D

OK gentlemen, NOW you've done it!:grumpy:

I'm now considering placing a pre-order at Best Buy if they're taking orders on that game now. Though this'll be a major switch for me since I'll be getting the game before I have the PS3 to play it on.:embarrassed: But before then, I'll probably ask them if there's going to be a special package deal where you get GT5:P and the PS3 together.

Luckily, my Japanese is completely lousy! So the advantage of getting the Japanese version early will be minimal. However it has to be done,,,,Don't it Andy???????

My English version is on Pre-order, so is Andy's!!

As to other sports-sims (Off topic off course, because this is the p;ss-heads hangout!)
Does anyone else feel slightly dirty picking the girl rider in MotorStorm, and making absolutely sure that the engine blows AT the line. And then spend thirty seconds watching her tumble??????????

No?

Not just me then??????? (Hopefully)

Neil;)

Neil , the one's we have ordered now and have been shipped are in Japanese. I did it with GT4, with a Japanese PS2 and game, it's not too hard to figure out. Also there are a few guys here at GTP that can and do translate to English and post.
Just checked the Japanese Playstation Store and it is there and for sale as a download for 4500 yen...Just checked my order and it left INCHEON this morning, I 'm betting by next Tuesday.

I'm organising the English versions!

No arguments!👍

And Motorstorm is soothing my soul at the moment, so is "Casino Royale" and "Into the Blue" (with Jessica Alba in VERY skimpy attire)
Both on Blu-Ray!

The quality is unbelievable!

Yipeee!!! My Gt5 disc is on the local UPS truck to be delivered TODAY!!!!!!!

11:01 AM, it just arrived...it's in my greedy hands, it came with a sheet of GT decals. I'm gonna leave work early today and get this going!!!

Hey Neil, your's is in Leipzig - Germany at this moment (12:40 PM, EST), you should get tomorrow or Monday :)

Well I have my first 2 cars, you start with 3,500,000 credits but that won't buy much at all, but was able to win a few races and got enough to buy a Nissan Fairlady. A little difficult to know exactly what to do so I'm just fumbling around. Graphics are great, physics are a bit different then GT4, much like GTHD and the GT Prolouge download. No license tests, saw a couple of races that said Mission but have not been able to access yet, don't know why. I'm sure some other guys will be able to figure everything out.

Hmmm, is it the 300ZX or the 350Z? I only saw the 300ZX once and never saw the 350Z. As for the "Mission" races, you'll probably have to win alot of races to get them. Say, where you able to drive on the infield Road Course at Daytona?

If you get the chance, can you scan or take a photo of the decals to show us what they look like? I'm wondering if this will be included in the NA version of GT5:P. :D

Are there any actual race cars in GT5? Or have you not yet got to those yet. Thanks for the advice even though im waiting till GT5 not the prologue comes out.

No race cars, all stock passanger cars, and no tuning at all.

Sunday: Well is was fun while it lasted, finished everything last night, although I still have one Silver I need to turn to Gold. Then I'm going to run the 3 lap race at Daytona in class A about 18 times to get credits to buy a Ferrari, it's like 34,000,000 credits, then I'll go for the Vette and any other car I want.
The ending movie plays a great variation of the end movie music in GT4. Arcade mode is basicaly time trials.
One cool thing is if you draw a penalty for going off road or hitting another car your car becomes a "ghost" for the alloted time, other cars go right through you. If you and an AI are sharing the same piece of track while under penalty, when the penalty is over there's a jerk and a bump as the ghost becomes solid.
Drifting is almost mandatory in some cars and courses, the physics make it quite easy and fun.

Need to setup a PSN account for online play starting Dec 25, anyone know how you do it?

Nice decals. :D:tup: Here's hoping they do the same for the NA release.

Has anybody saw the Le Mans series on speed yet? I haven't been able to see it yet.
Can't say that I have on my part. I've been recording the DTMN and V8 Supercars series while I'm away from home to watch later on. If I get the chance, I'll have a look-see at the European LMS race sometime. IIRC, it's pretty much a highlights reel of the action from the round of racing that takes place.

Looks great. If I had some Carbon Fibre Scale models, I'd probably put those decals on them.
That, or a racesim cockpit's panels.:sly:

Speaking of which...

::attached images::
For the sake of asking, are the images that of your racesim cockpit?

Yep, that's it. Finally have all the componets I want, G25 wheel, solid cockpit designed by race car driver Bob Earl, PS3, HD TV and Bose speakers (one under me and the other beside me, powered by a 250 watt stereo) I can feel the engine noise in my arse. My wife shuts 2 different doors when I'm in the racing room, I wanted to have a little can beside me burning car oil but the wife doesn't care for the idea, go figure!

Ah, gotchas. :) And what about the crates the cockpit is seated on? Probably some workout step boards?

Actually they're file cabinets I bought specifically for my chassis, sitting on the floor was too difficult :)

Hey Guys, my copy of GT5:P arrived this morning!👍👍

And guess who has been FAR too busy to even stick it in the PS3 yet? :ouch:

Neil

LOL been there, done that. I'm waiting on my copy right now! My own birthday present! I also know where it will be for a day at least... right down the street at the FedEx Hub!! :D:sly: Randy
