Apparently the P1 has been out on the track in Bahrain, to show off to potential owners:

Apparently, these images were released by McLaren because the Bahrain International Circuit, which hosts the fourth round on the Formula One calendar, is "a location absolutely fitting for this supercar".

Here's the linky for the story, via Top Gear of all people. Looks very good so far 👍

These pics look like renders, you cannot even see through the windows.

Those are pictures directly from McLaren, so seems real, unless they're doing renders of their own car to show it off? Also, there is no proof the car is even moving in the shots, they might be still shots.

After a successful launch in Bahrain, we are very excited to be bringing the McLaren P1™ to the United Arab Emirates, where our retail partner, Al Habtoor Motors, has confirmed huge interest in this unique car. This year marks our 50th year anniversary, so it is apt that we are gearing up to launch a car that we feel will redefine the parameters for performance, on both circuit and road. This is why we have released these unique and stunning images, taken at the BIC, a location absolutely fitting for this supercar.

That is cause it's the concept version the windows are blacked out cause it doesn't have an interior or an engine.
The interior pics posted are from the production version.

While I do like the simplicity, they've made it extremely austere and uninspiring...unlike the original F1, which as a designer, I find very handsome, elegant, and purposeful looking, if a bit impractical.

I have to agree, I didn't expect it to be anything like for example a Pagani Huayra (in fact it's a complete antidote to that) which I guess is a love or hate affair (I love it though, even if it's a bit too much perhaps) but unlike the original F1 which interior was purposefully designed, this appears to be styled to look functional only (there is a difference).
And whilst the in many regards largely similarly austere looking MP4-12C's interior still has an inviting character where it matters, this one is shockingly dull from what I've seen so far.

Correct.

McLaren has released the stunning results of an exclusive photoshoot involving its new P1 at the Bahrain International Circuit, ahead of the hypercar’s arrival in the United Arab Emirates next week.

The car photographed is in fact the design study that premiered last year in Paris – although it actually is very close to the production car, which will show for the first time at next month’s Geneva show. The successor to the McLaren F1 made its Middle Eastern debut in Bahrain only recently in this concept form.

See the production-ready P1′s spartan interior here, watch a video (and tickle your ears with its V8 soundtrack) here, or digest more technical details here.

In all honesty I could care less what the interior looks like. The exterior has won me over the moment it was revealed, which is interesting because not many modern car designs can do that for me. At this point I just want the P1 to demolish everything on the track for years to come.

Quite impressive perfomrance stats...

0-62mph “less than three seconds”, 0-125mph “under seven seconds”, and 0-186mph in “less than 17 seconds”. Top speed will be electronically limited to 217mph.

But I'm guessing the real USP is going to be cornering.

£900k price tag :lol:

Considering it's power to weight ratio, it seems slow to 186mph. A 'normal' Veyron is faster than that, and it's carrying something like 1,500lbs extra with 'only' 100 more hp. I'm guessing this car has a ton of drag.

Thanks for linking the photos, great stuff. Love the interior shots showing all that carbon. :drool:

It looks ok but why YELLOW of all the colors in the world? Such an ugly color to put on a car.

love how you can see the superior F1 in the background lol

Assume 750 lbf drag for both cars at 200 mph. At 100 mph, that's 188 lbf drag.

At 85% power efficiency, P1 = 900*.85 = 765, Veyron = 1000*.85 = 850
765/850 = 90%

At 100 mph, 188 lbf drag would be 50 hp. HP used for acceleration for each car would be:

Veyron = 850 - 50 = 800
P1 = 765 - 50 = 715
715/800 = 89%, the P1 is falling behind in terms of useable power

At 200 mph 750 lbf drag is 400 hp

850 - 400 = 450
765 - 400 = 365
365/450 = 81%. At 200 mph, the P1's power weight ratio is about 20% worse compared to the Veyron's than it is when both cars are still. Power means more than weight as speed goes up. The Veyron also has AWD launch.

Also, less than 17 seconds can mean anything from 0 to 16.9999999999999999.
