The Metal ThreadMusic

Just to let you all know, I started a Disturbed Fans group in the Social Groups area for those of you who who like Disturbed (I suspect there aren't many, but there should be a few of you around here).
On another note..I've been Listening to a bit of Scar Symmetry and am enjoying it much more than I thought I would. I just want to say thanks everyone for opening my eyes to the different styles of metal. :):)👍 Cougar23

Disturbed is what got me into newer heavy music, before i was all about metallica. Ive heard some of the new Disturbed and man those guys have changed into a great metal band, away from their kinda nu metal sound. and wow Dan Donegan is shredding now!??!?!?

Anyone heard of Redemption? They are a must listen for fans of Dream Theater, or progressive metal in general.

Here is a sampler of their latest cd

Yeah some of their new stuff (Indestructable album) is really good but I still like their older albums more-(the Sickness-My favourite Disturbed Album, and Beleive). So you still listen to them a bit? What's your favourite song from them? Mine's 'Droppin' Plates' from the Sickness Album. :) Cougar23

Five Finger Death Punch just released a new album on the 22nd called War Is The Answer.

Just listened to it last night and very very much like 👍 Then again I'm VERY found of Ivan Moody's vocals... so it could be that. Anyways its a good album for any FFDP or Motograter fan.

Never heard of them. I’m not too fond of Dream Theatre, but this guys sound really cool.

I didn’t know they were in the process of releasing a new album. I loved they’re first album, though; it got old a bit quickly. But, I’ll sure to check them up.

__________

My cousins has band named The SPiTEFUL, and they just released they’re first album (after 2 EP’s and 11 years of existence): Persuasion through persistence.

I still don’t have the album, but the songs I’ve heard so far are really good and consistent. Also, it has pretty high reviews.

The style is more of trash metal with some death influences, really good stuff, if you guys could have a listen, there are some songs on their myspace: http://www.myspace.com/thespitefulband

Will check it out. I liked FFDP's first cd.

I'm not a huge Dream Theater fan either, but Redemption sounds so awesome. Their singer reminds me of M. Shadows of Avenged Sevenold but not raspy and...better, lol.

Not bad for a first cd, but not my cup o tea.

yeah thats my favorite too. isnt that a cover?

anyways, I listen to NWOAHM (New Wave Of American Heavy Metal) which is mostly As I Lay Dying, Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, Lamb Of God, Trivium, Unearth...etc and disturbed is getting kinda near that genre now with there new album out.

I don't think it's a cover. But I'm not exactly sure. Anyone else want to set us straight on this one?

I've started listening to a few of the bands you listed there as well. Most notably Killswitch engage and Lamb of God. :)

Nevermind, i was thinking of "Shout" haha.

Killswitch used to be a kick ass metal band, but then they got another singer, Howard Jones, and then they got big and now they sound like an emo band with metal riffs. Lamb Of God is one of my favoirites, especially now with the new album WRAITH! that opening song "In your words" just says it all.

So I've listened to the new Scar Symmetry a few times and I think it's pretty badass despite the different singers. They are no Christian Alvestam, but they still have an awesome sound. 👍

Alright, I listened to it.

uhhh.... no.

Previous albums were mostly growling vocals and the clean vocals were like a nice and surprising addition, making the whole dark mood of the song get a new light. This new album, I don't know if it was because they felt they needed to give both singers a balance or what, but there's an almost equal amount of both types of singing... so there's no swings in the music. The first 4 songs sound like I put repeat on the first song. The 5th song sounds like a metal version of Britney, but as the album progresses it gets a bit better music-wise.

To be honest, I wouldn't place this one in my top nothing, though it has its moments. Then again this is perhaps the Scar Symmetry album I've been most critical withs, ince the previous ones I heard because I was looking for stuff by them and it coincided that they had just released the previous album.

If I have to find one flaw in this album is that it tries too hard to appeal to anyone. It has styles that sound like grindcore, styles that sound prog, others that sound power metal, others like tech-speed metal, but it never settles on anything. And the clean vocals sound too angelic (sound effects, I'm sure). Their previous work had a more dark mood to all of it.

I have to say that the new album isn't bad. But there is too much of a power metal influence, which is what I feared would happen after I heard about the vocalist now.

Sad day :(

What is Christian working on now?

He's working on 2 bands right now. Solution .45 and Miseration. I havn't heard anything from Solution .45, but Miseration is pretty good.

Everyone should go listen to DevilDriver's new CD. Its there most brutal one yet and it doesn't think its anything else.. Its pure hard DevilDriver through and through.

I don't know. Holographic Universe was pretty heavy on the clean vocals. I wish they could get Christian back.

just a curious note, but is DevilDriver a christian metal band?

Nope! They label them self as groove metal. Which is defiantly fitting IMO. Dez Fafara is the singer (used to be Coal Chamber) and his strong voice fits the bands perfectly. If your worried about clean vocals then you will like em' because Dez loves to show off his voice. In fact I don't think I can recal any clean vocals in any of their albums. If your going to check them out, I suggest 'I've Been Sober' off their new album. 'Not All Who Wander Are Lost' and 'Clouds Over California' on The Last Kind Words' Those are defiantly my favorites, but I think all their stuff is quality.

EDIT: Did you think they were a Christian Metal band because of the names actual meaning?

I've met a lot of people that call themselves hard core Christians and they think DevilDriver means something evil. Lmfao.

EDIT: Great, I'm listening to DevilDriver again after listening to them all night XD. I also recommend 'Forgiveness is a Six Gun,' the beginning is 🤬 amazing.

I used to listen to some christian metal bands a few years ago and I remember one was named Devil-something... I just thought this was it.

That didn't take that long. I warmed up to the new Scar Symmetry sound. Though as Diego said, track 5 is terrible. All the previous albums were good from beginning to finish.

I just listened to this album and think it is surprisingly great! I prefer the melodic vocals over the growlies anyway.

Two fingers (index and pinky) up!
