Didn't think you would like Ayreon. Maybe you'll like Star One too, which is a side project of Arjen Lucassen. I like it more than the Ayreon albums but that's because I'm addicted on Russell Allen's vocals and he's the main singer in the Star One project. He also sings "Dawn of a Million Souls" in Ayreon's Universal Migrator part 2 album, which also features a guitar solo from Michael Romeo.

But Ayreon is prog heaven. Of course Diego would like it. I recommended Star One to him some time ago. I can't remember if he has checked it out or not yet.

Space Metal!

Ayreon is among my Top 10 favourite bands of.... ever.

I don't mind some high-pitched vocals, as long as they're

a) by a woman, and
b) when the woman is not Luca Turilli :sly:

I have all of their stuff but havn't really listened to much of it. The few songs I have heard, I sort of liked. I suppose I should give it a real listen.

edit: @ Prosthetic...I <3 Sybreed.

Anyone like Mnemic? They are releasing a new record pretty soon.

Ahem?:

I just know some few of that list, and heard about another few of them.

Mnemic is great. They are currently working on a new album also, and I am pretty anxious to hear what it is like, especially after this statement from their myspace:
Why is this taking so long you may ask? Because we want to be 100% satisfied with this release and not put out an album we just worked on two months in advance prior to the recordings.
They’re latest, Passenger, was a little "poor", in comparison with the early albums, and I dare to say, a bit metalcorish (though I don’t mind metalcore). I saw in a interview Mircea (the guitarist) saying the album was rushed, because of the delays in finding a suitable new vocalist.

I heard they are also working in a projection system to be implemented in their live shows, to become more dynamic. It would be something interesting to follow

And Sonic Syndicate isn't bad and all, they have one and another decent song but (and don't get me wrong), they sound a bit "emo" for me.

Ayreon.... nothing else tops it.

Supergroups are awesome. I'm currently listening to The Human Equation. In what other metal album can you listen to all these awesome people singing, often in the same track.

- Devon Graves (Dead Soul Tribe)
- Devin Townsend (SYL)
- Eric Clayton (Saviour Machine)
- Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth)
- Magnus Ekwall (The Quill)
- Heather Findlay (Mostly Autumn)
- Irene Jansen (Karma)
- James LaBrie (Dream Theater)
- Marcela Bovio (Elfonia)
- Mike Baker (Shadow Gallery)
- Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon)

This cd is effing amazing. I've listened to it about 4-5 times since yesterday. 👍

I'm kinda surprised I hadn't mentioned it before. Most (if not all) of Ayreon's albums are collaborations with many singers/musicians... I'll have to recommend you give the rest of them a listen as well. Though aside from the new one (called 010100110, or something like that), the rest are a bit more electronic-inclined.

Yeah, I remembered after reading the wiki for Ayreon that I had listened to their latest album and didn't really like it all that much, but The Human Equation is just so damn epic. I LOVE it. I've listened to it another 2 and a half times today too. I'll definetly have to check out their other stuff too.

I just had a listen to the first half of the new Ayreon this morning...

Awesome!

Right away, from the opening riff I was into it. Then the guessing began..

Is that the singer from Evergrey?

Is that Tarja?

I may end up liking this more than The Human Equation.

You also said they didn't sound like Nickelback.

;)

They don't.. Nickelback is a pathetic excuse of a band that writes catchy sing-a-long rock that 13 year old girls in pony tails like.. 5FDP is a metal band that has mosh pits and horns in the air at concerts.. Geez such similarities...

Man the bass drum on that last one has absolutely no effing kick to it.. Seriously I don't see this connection you make... I personally I have nothing against the the singer but the bands its self is so boring so monotone so freaking basic sounding that it makes Linkin Park look like a progressive metal band. And that isn't a stretch.

Word to the wise: Speedy was being sarcastic... he doesn't do it much, but he's known to do so... often catching people unaware.

Just wanted to drop some rockin' goodness on everyone, The Atomic Bitchwax, "Last of the V8 Interceptors"

These guys have been rocking my world for the past month. Both 'T.A.B. I' and 'T.A.B. II' are heavy metal-tastic (see: Marching on the Skulls of the Dead), 'T.A.B. III' started to get more experimental and kinda Rush-y, and they have a brand new album 'T4B.'
Dig 'em.

Bleh.. Well whatever... Lets please not mention Nickelback ever again though... I feel sick having to listen to part of two of their songs..

Alright, new suggestion to anyone interested in technical extreme instrumental metal:

Blotted Science

Guitars: Ron Jarzombek (Watchtower, Spastic Ink)
Bass: Alex Webster (Cannibal Corpse, Hate Eternal)
Drums: Chris Adler (Lamb of God)

Are there any bands that sound like Maximum The Hormone, but in english?
