Don't get me wrong. Anette is a great singer. I just prefer the Tarja era Nightwish to the new one.

I think Tarja was much more suited to songs such as Wishmaster, End of All Hope, Kinslayer, etc, but once they changed their sound as they did for the Once album Tarja's voice wasn't needed so much.

but Annette rocks!

Agree. I for once can't stand Tarja. Metal plus Opera just don't mix in my ears.

As of lately, I've been listening to:

HORSE, the band - Birdo

Straight Line Stich - Never See the Day

(Following my latest trend of listening to metal bands with female vocalists that do growls).

Mnemic - Diesel Uterus

(I think this may be they're best song of the new album. It's quite addicting.)

Samael - The Cross

(Though a bit old, I love this music. His voice sounds like Darth Vader for some odd reason)

Hi, I'm going to practice some shameless self-promotion here, it may not be "true" metal in the eyes of some, but, we like to label ourselves as a metal/hardcore/experimental band.

If you feel like it, take a listen & tell me what you think;)

and my band before that:

So, no one had the guts to take a listen and tell me if my band sucks or rocks??

Maybe some of you listened & just had nothing nice to say about it, if so, sorry...

I missed your previous post. Gave it a listen now but it's not my kind of music. I'm not really a fan of screaming vocals. Also I thought the guitars could sound heavier. It doesn't go along too well with the vocals.

Old Samael is the only Samael that matters. That trendy half-assed Industrial they're putting out now is horrid. Every album up until "Ceremony of Opposites" is amazing. If you like the old Samael sound check out Barathrum.

*EDIT*(Just noticed that was one of Samael's Industrial songs that you posted, oh well.)

Not bad not bad. It sounds like a mixture of As I Lay Dying plus Adept plus Winter Solstice. Its not something I would listen like everyday, it's not currently my style. Though, I have to say that Tomorrows the Same sound sounds slightly more refined than It Figures.

I don't think is horrid. Ceremony of Opposites is one of my favorite Samael albums, but they're more Industrial stuff are quite cool. Reign of Light and Solar Soul are great. Anyway, you will be pleased to ear that they seem to return to they're former sound with they're new album Above, probably my favorite Samael album. It sounds like a more refined Ceremony of Opposites. 👍

Barathrum sound cool, I'll have to give it a listen latter.

Harder than Symphony X and still within the prog realm? Opeth

Wnat more prog?
Opeth are pretty good. Åkerfeldt has a great clean voice and a good growl as well. 👍

Been a good while since I listened to them, but have any of you heard Lost Horizon? They're swedes as well, although they're no longer active.

I listen to all kinds of music, it's not just rock and metal, but currently I'm much into late 80's/early 90's stuff. Right now I'm listening to Megadeth's album Rust In Peace from 1990.

Another bump. This time for the black metal kvlt-ists out there

In my neverending quest for music that sends chills up and down the spine,
I've recently found a few songs/groups you guys might like. These are groups and/or songs I hadn't listened to,
but which have been pleasant surprises and are now in my collection. Maybe some of you will like them too:

RITUAL/THE SUMMONING/DARK CATHEDRALS -- These guys are a somewhat enigmatic U.S. Black Metal group that I admit I'd never heard of before. But they're really solid. They're a blend of black, thrash and doom, and their musicianship is top notch. They're really a hidden gem in the U.S. black metal scene and definitely worth a listen. Really impressed with this group and can't believe they haven't enjoyed more success.

SUMMONING/MINAS MORGUL/THROUGH THE FOREST OF DOL GULDUR -- I'd actually heard of these guys, but I thought their stuff would be really cheesy since most of their album art/lyrics/tracks are based on Tolkien's LOTR mythology. What can I say, I was wrong. Their earlier stuff is very much black metal, the later stuff is a litter softer and more symphonic, while still retaining the signature black metal vocals. Great musicianship and definitely worth a listen.

DIMMU BORGIR/ENTHRONE DARKNESS TRIUMPHANT/THE NIGHT MASQUERADE-- While most of their recent stuff is lame, sellout garbage, this track is a great reminder that they were once strong in the force of true black metal. This song is great \m/

Hello, Folks,

Do you have any site suggestion on where I can dig for latest metal releases? I am pretty open on that -- I listen from Dream Theater to Emperor, from Krisiun to Epica. From Transatlantic to Enslaves. So, any suggestion is fine.

The only problem is that due to my studies i went too off the metal scene, so If you have some good suggestions, you can post something here.

Thanks

How the heck do people listen to black metal?

Honestly, I don't know. Black Metal is a niche genre within the sub-genre of heavy metal. I'm too lazy to look up the stats, but if I had to guess, it probably brings in less revenue than just about any other genre, except maybe New Age and Ambient? Who knows.

I know I like it. Not all of it. But when I find a group/song I like, it's awesome, epic stuff \m/ I could care less about the corpse paint and religious messages of some of the groups. It's weird I guess to most people, but then Black Metal fans don't care. And neither do most of the bands. They're obviously not in it for the money. There are a few exceptions I guess.

Black metal is my favorite. Horna, Empyrium, At The Gates, Blodsrit, Diabolical Masquerade, and Dornenreich. Oh yes.
More mellow stuff consists of Tenhi, Agalloch, Nucleus Torn, October Falls, and Vali.

I'm not into that much black metal but I do like some of the bands that have a "big" sound or cool guitars. So probably not the most extreme stuff. Emperor, some Dimmu Borgir, some Dark Fortress and some Satyricon.

Protest the Hero, The Devil Wears Prada, and Alexisonfire are great. ESPECIALLY Protest the Hero. I quit rap because I got tired of listening to how they have sex with prostitutes and how much money the have and how big their rims are. So I started off with Rise Against and escalated from there into deeper and heavier rock. But I do like classic rock too.

That's not rap. That's commercialized gangsta rap.
