The Metal ThreadMusic

Ummm. Protest The Hero, Alexisonfire and The Devil Wears Prada are metal... its called facts. Get them right.

It's called grammar. Get it right. :sly:

And Silverzone is right again, especially about the crap genre

How the heck do people listen to black metal?

Usually the same way other people listen to music....

99.9% of the time Black Metal is all about the riffs.

And this thread has quickly gone down hill... So I'm going to throw up a ton of youtubes from a wide range of Metal.

Very calm but those riffs are so freakin' seductive.

Sodom is probably the most overlooked thrash band of the 80's. If not the most one of them. Easily in my top five favorite extreme metal bands.

No this isn't Metallica its Meshuggah dammit. Very techy sound Trash and I love every bit of it.

Oh gawd. Nothing over the top but they do everything perfect. That voice is so chillingly perfect it makes my pants all wet.

I normally call this Rock N' Roll but they are just so rude and in your face I'm calling it Heavy Metal. The whole song just flows so perfectly from solo to solo... Hmmm reminds me of Motorhead! 💡

That intro is so evil and powerful that I feel the need to add it into the thread. Ignore the corny as hell video and just listen to the song that makes your whole body melt. Defiantly a motivator.

One more Black Metal song because this is my favorite song from everyone's favorite church burner! I can listen to that riff all day.

This is how we do it in the Bay Area. Exodus IMO is the best the 80's had to offer. Even to this day they sound very similar to what they started out with. You can't say the same with Metallica and Megadeth.

Just thought I would add that because it's like totally like awesome like yeah.

Didn't they cover "Still Fly"? Zero credibility. I'd rather listen to Madonna while someone breaks all my vinyl in front of me.

So let's go to Thrash.

Any Municipal Waste fans out there? I know they float in and out of Thrash and Punk pretty easily, but I've never heard a metalhead not like them.

Check it.

(Language warning... maybe? I can't remember...)

Oh, and for the record I enjoy Alexisonfire and Protest The Hero to a certain extent, it's just not metal...

I don't think I've ever seen a non-cheesy black metal video... If I could remember what the song was I'd post up that video Immortal did that trumps every video ever made in terms of cheese. That is great to watch when "medicated".

Good man Prosthetic for bringing up Sodom. Though that song is from what is probably their most deathy style album. Still great stuff though.

Another band I've fallen in love with from the thrash boom is Coroner, a Swiss technical thrash band. I'll let the music do the talking:

A selection of one of my favourites from each of their main albums. Enjoy!

On the Swiss note, any Tom G Warrior fans here? I.E. Celtic Frost, Hellhammer, Apollyon Sun and now Triptykon.

Listening to this right now:

Alexisonfire isn't hardcore. But it also isn't metal.

This is hardcore:

And while we're on the subject of 80s thrash;

Vio-lence, Venom, Whiplash, Sacred Reich, Testament, Kreator, Cryptic Slaughter, Possessed.

Always in the playlist.

I was in a Tower Records the other day and they had a listening station with the new Bullet for My Valentine disc. I gave it a listen and the first track impressed me so I picked it up.

While the first track is awesome, and reminds me of a cross between Trivium and Scar Symmetry, the rest of the disc is of less quality. Good for a dose of metal when you're jones-ing though.

I just found out about a band called Krisiun thanks to Pandora. These guys are SO metal... and there's only 3 of them. Not so into their subject matter, but their sound is incredible.

Some free downloadable metal for anyone interested.

Earthtone9, they've recently gotten back together to play some shows and to celebrate they've released a compilation album. You can download it for free or even buy the cd. They're very good in my opinion, not your average metal band.

I'm aware of this being extremely old news, but I'm known for bringing old stuff up eveyr now and then. But I'm really disliking the new-ish Scar Symmetry album (Dark Matter Dimensions)... the two singers issue has bugged be for a while, but now I really can't stand the clean lyrics. It reminds me of Stratovarius (which I like) mixed with Helloween. The songs 'The Consciousness Eaters' is among the worst crap ever.

I'm assuming the album you mean is Fever?
It's ok, I still think Scream Aim Fire is the best of their albums.
I'm actually going to see them next month, quite looking forward to it, haven't been to a concert for a while.

I recently came across Niklas Engelin band, Engel. To those who don't know him, he is the current tour substitute of Jesper Stroblad who left In Flames early this year.
Anyway, back to what matters, I was really impressed by the band. It has this really good and heavy "groove" (sometimes present in the band Passenger, a project with Niklas Engelin and In Flames vocalist, Anders Fridén).
I am really addicted to they're sound, specially this two music pieces:

The first song was good but I couldn't get through the second one. I have no problem with non screaming vocals but his were just too poppy.

Anyways Black Label Society released a new album like a week ago and I still haven't listened to all of it. But here is a few songs from it.

I think its awesome and I'm going to go pick it up right now :D

Fun drinking game. Listen to BLS and take a shot every time you hear a pinch harmonic.

Yeah, I know how you feel. When I first heard the second one, I was like: man, his vocals don't feet the music at all, it sound a bit like pop/soft rock; But, thanks in part to the "groovy" instrumentals, it actually grew on me.

I don't know why, but I always thought Black Label Society was something in relation to hip hop. :odd:
Really cool band, kind of a crossover between Pantera and Down.

Parade of the Dead is a fantastically great song. I'm digging the new BLS in a big way.

I picked up some Japanese Visual-K Metal the other day. D'espairsRay's new disc, Monsters. It's pretty good so far.

Here's a sample (not the best on the album by far, though)

But how are they not being sued.

I'd rather not die of an alcohol OD :sly:

But in all seriousness, I don't care if Zakk overuses it. I love BLS to death.

I do too. It wouldn't be Zakk without the squeelies. I prefer his BLS work way over any work with Ozzy.

Speaking of Ozzy.

Other than Sabbath, I don't think he has done anything really good. I mean the entire solo library of his sounds like trend hopping BS. In the 80's he was hair metal, 90's he was nu metal, now he has songs that sounds like typical rock radio metal.
