The Metal ThreadMusic

And although most of the best Black Sabbath songs are from his era I prefer Dio's voice by a long margin.

Sabbath is one of the few bands which got better after the original singer left. :sly: Dio rocks, may he rest in peace.

ATM I'm listening to 3 Inches of Blood, but I also listen to Judas Priest, Motorhead, Metallica, AC/DC, Blind Guardian, Avantasia, Hammerfall,Megadeth and Maiden of course.

I like Rock music in general and other genres, too much to list. I can appreciate almost anything that is real, handmade music.

And I'm especially looking forward to the Volbeat concert on November 2nd in Düsseldorf which I will be attending. :)

Oh and Black Label Society rocks, too

Black Label Society will be touring with Clutch. EFFF YEAAH!! This made my day yesterday when I heard the news and they will be here in SF November 20th. So I will be going to that one for sure. Neil Fallon and Zakk Wylde in one building may be to much beard for the city to handle.

Trivium
Metallica
Megadeth
Judas Priest
Metal Church
Ozzy Osbourne
Motley Crue
Lamb of God
All that Remains
Killswitch Engage
Iron Maiden
Queensryche
Dokken
Dream Theater
Scorpions

These are some of my favorites

Anyone listen to Totenmond, Drunken Bastards (drunken has an umlaut), Invasion, or Leechmilk? Just found these bands and they're so heavy. Drunken Bastards has more of a thrash sound though.

Sabbath definitely got better after Ozzy was kicked out. Heaven and Hell and Dehumanizer were their two best albums by far.

BTW, props on listening to Avantasia. If you havent already, check out Ayreon, Tomorrow's Eve and Pain of Salvation.

Eternal Tears Of Sorrow.

At the moment i've been listening to these guys alot.

Classified as melodic death metal, i've never got how a band is put into a group, ive got a simple method to my music, if I like it i'll listen to it.

A few of my other favourite bands.

Children Of Bodom
In Flames
Metallica (The early stuff up to Justice)
Bullet For My Valentine
Overkill

To many others mention.

Anyone know of some good Symphonic Metal?

I recently started to listen to Epica and Rhapsody of Fire and now I want more.

Symphony X is more prog metal than symphonic but it shares similarities with those bands. Worth a try if you still don't know it.

After Forever, Nightwish, Sirenia, Sonata Arctica, Tarja, Versailles, Within Temptation are symphonic, some a bit more than others though.

So can anyone straighten this out for me? Why does there have to be two million sub-genres of metal? It's confusing and really annoying hearing everyone argue about it all the time.

Because they're all different? Standard symphonic metal doesn't sound like black metal which doesn't sound like thrash metal. It's the same reason there's tons of sub-genres of electronic music.

Yes, but all metal heads will argue to the point I'm tearing my hair out about how "THIS IS NOT METAL THIS IS DISCO DBEAT POLKA FOLK SYMPHONIC BEARMETAL" I dunno. With Thrash and Converge type bands being the only metal bands I can listen to I don't know why people can't just say "It's metal".

Five Finger Death Punch
Anyone else see them when they were on tour together/Know who they are?

Ewwwwwwwww Five Finger Death Punch and In This Moment are easily two of the worst bands I've ever heard. Listen to Municipal Waste and save yourself! Your ears must be purified quickly! CLEANSE IT WITH FIRE!!

Five Finger Death Punch is pretty good.Their newest album could have been better, but it was still good.

In this moment...well they are ok.I only like a few songs of theirs.

Bands that have a Woman lead that you should check out would be Kittie,Otep, and well i can't think of the other one.Otep has a different feel to them as many of their songs are dark.Kittie is just pretty much everything crazy, good stuff though.

I have lost an interest in metal. I don't know why, but every time a metal song played on my PS3, I felt terrible, like a chili overload. I have walked away from the path of metal a few months back. I wasn't hard to give up though.

If it makes you feel terrible, which I don't know how it could happen. I would guess you were only into a couple bands that were probably border line hard rock or something. Most people listen to metal because no other genre were able to provide the energy, atmosphere and instrument sophistication that most normal every day rock bands don't provide.

A lot of people get into because it provides a scapegoat out of societies normality. You wanted that either because you hated the norm or you were looked at as weird, a freak etc.. so you embraced it and put up the horns in one hand and your middle finger in the other. Some people grow out of it and move on, but a lot of people such as me discover how effective the music is; and it becomes a drug that you need your daily fix.

At that point you discovered how Metal and can cope with every emotion imaginably possible, and that is why a lot of us don't listen to much else outside of metal because we simply don't need anything else because this is our perfect cure. Anger, happiness, melancholy, aggressive, submissive, dominant.. Everything.

A bit of a rant, I know. But when I read your post it came out very pompous. "I'm not really into metal anymore, and because of that I am a better person" That is what I read, and I am fully aware that is not what you wrote but that is how I interrupted it. So I responded.

Don't give up completely on metal. There are a few good bands that still know how to do it. And do it well. There are very few good metal bands mentioned in this thread, but the ones that are good are very good. Saw High On Fire, Pantera, etc. etc. Go listen to some Converge, thats true energy right there. I can attest as I have seen them live and there is no other live band today that has more energy than converge. In J. Bannon's vocals you can tell he's giving it his all every show, blowing out his vocal chords just for the crowd. They care about their crowd, that is where most other metal bands fail. Bands such as Metallica, Megadeth, Machine Head, Lamb Of God, Cannibal Corpse, etc. etc. Have failed the average metalhead in playing a show for a check and not for their fans. They are so far disconnected from their fan base it's ridiculous. at a true Metal show, there is no barricade, there are no bouncers, and the musicians sell their own merch, and if they did a great job you go up and shake the dudes hand. Popular Metal in general has found their niche. They find the kids that are looked upon as losers, geeks, degenerates, etc. etc. and exploit them for every dollar they can get. They sell images of toughness to kids who can't be tough theirselves. It's all a sham on top but down towards the bottom there are still legit artists.
