The FIAT Uno had already sprung to mind - though the UNIMOG hadn't. And we have a bajillion UNIMOGs around where I live... :D

Incidentally, can one car count twice for this? Like a Honda Accord?

Or what if you've got two letters the same in your name (or four in my case)? Can the same make/model represent the letter across the name?

It's in his name, so that doesn't matter.

Yarp you can count one Honda Accord for your A and H. It is only the Brand and Model though. Sub models don't count. So if you get a Subaru Legacy RSK-B4 you can only use the S and L, not S,L,R and B.

There is an easy U for us Americans, in fact I got it today :P.

Ok after spending hours on end running last week's entries through a sophisticated matrix I have deduced that M5Power wins 2-0.

But is it in the same picture as many others?

Inkily-dinkily, with the twin-exhaust one, do you mean cars which have two separate tailpipes, or can cars with a twin exit tailpipe (like mine) count?

So far i've spotted a 2.2L cavalier with dual exhaust, sounded absolutely horrible.

This counts:👍

This doesn't:👎

Although I think people may find a smaller engined example :D

I presume ONE exit on each side will also count?

Though I quite enjoy the challenge, it seems a bizarre category to me. Tailpipes seem to be independant of engine layout. There are cars with one tailpipe with V/Boxer engines (but 2 exhaust manifolds) and there are cars with two tailpipes with straight engines (but one exhaust manifold). Some of the two-tailpipe cars are really just a single exhaust length with a back section routed to two exits at either side of the car (new MX-5, for example)...

Yes one exit on each side counts. I just found it interesting that many car manufacturers have now moved to putting twin exhausts (or at least the appearance of) onto small cars. I had always heard that twin exhausts had no effect on performance for 4 cyl engines, but lots now seem to have them.

People like symmetry, for some reason. Even the MX-5 you posted as a bonus has two separate tailpipes, though the system is a single pipe from the manifold back to just before the back, when it branches out to form the two tailpipes.

And that's just a 2.0, so anyone spotting the bonus has a pretty small engined two-exit car

Yip, so they could get a two for one deal. Although I know of at least one 1.5l car that has twin pipes. I test drove it in the weekend and was very impressed. I think the wife may be getting a new car :D

Last question, I promise...

Would you like some toast?

No, just kidding. Does it have to be standard? Only I know of some modified cars with really, really piddly little engines and twin pipes...

No thanks I just ate, but I may come back to you on that :)

Modified is fine. Ironically a new trend here seems to be for people with cars that have twin exhausts (300ZXs, Corolla GTs/Levins etc) as standard to swap them for a single exhaust.

My best this week:

Gashlycrumb
1)Oldest Orange Car - As it says. If it's old and orange you are onto a winner.

I've only seen 3 orange cars this week. A 2007 Ford Focus ASBO, a 2006 FIAT Punto and this:

f3holdestorangeba9.jpg

A 1981 VW Camper (8th May 1981, according to the DVLA)

Gashlycrumb
2)Smallest engine with twin exhausts - Twin exhausts used to be the preserve of Hemis and Big-Blocks, apparently no longer. Find the car with the smallest capacity engine with twin exhausts.

Until I had a revelation, these were the best I could manage:

f3hsmallesttwin1hl8.jpg

f3hsmallesttwin2gk2.jpg

MG TF160 Sunstorm - 1,796cc
Audi A4 1.8T - 1,781cc

But then! Genius struck!

f3hsmallesttwin3wn8.jpg

Mazda RX-8 231PS - 1,308cc!

Gashlycrumb
3)Spell my name in one photo - Using the first letter of the make or model of cars in ONE photo spell GASHLYCRUMB. Closest to completing the name wins. Ie if you take a photo with a Golf, an Accord, a SEAT and a Matiz you get GAS******M* and would be beaten by someone who gets a photo with a Chevrolet, a Honda, a Unimog, a Leon and a Rio.

Man alive!

I've stored the full size-image at my own site for anyone who wishes to peruse it:

f3hgashlysmallfd2.jpg

G - VW Golf
A - Vauxhall Astra
S - Renault Scenic
H - Hyundai Trajet
L
Y
C - Citroen Xsara Picasso
R - Renault Scenic
U
M - Nissan Micra & MINI
B

7 from 11.

Gashlycrumb
4)Most efficient form of transport - Find the most efficient way of transporting humans by car. Judged on the litres of fuel used to transport each passenger 100kms. For example if you photo a car that averages 10L/100kms and can carry 4 people you get 2.5L/100km per person and if you find a car that averages 15L/100kms but seats 8 people (1.9L/100km per person) you win. Buses don't count.

Real brain buster this - not least because we don't have l/100km as a measure of fuel efficiency. Conversions NFTW.

What would win? Poor economy & many seats, or few seats and good economy? Aie!

First up - poor economy, many seats:
f3hefficient1nc6.jpg

Mazda 5 1.8TS2 - 35mpg equates to 8.072l/100km; It seats 6 = 1.345l/100km/person

Next up, good economy, fewer seats:

f3hefficient2oj4.jpg

Toyota Yaris S 998cc - 49mpg equates to 5.766l/100km; It seats 5 = 1.153l/100km/person.

Lastly:

f3hefficient3tx9.jpg

Vauxhall Zafira 1.6i Club - 37mpg equates to 7.636l/100km. It seats SEVEN, so gets 1.091l/100km/person. Win!

Bonus!

some jerkwad tuner around here has a 1.0 litre Corsa A with two exhausts... I miss my camera!

*pokes the other contestants*

We need your categories too, M5Power.

Categories for this week...

1. QUICKEST MERCEDES.
2. SLOWEST BMW.
3. OLDEST AUDI.
4. CHEAPEST PORSCHE. Based on current value. The condition of the vehicle photographed will be taken into account.

BONUS: 1996-2001 Audi A4 sedan in red. Doesn't have to be my red, just has to be red - several shades were made. Oddly my color isn't the rarest, but none of the reds are common.

Get looking for those German cars!

4. CHEAPEST PORSCHE. Based on current value. The condition of the vehicle photographed will be taken into account.

Golf Adjusted Price category.

Snappers, please read post #1 for details.
