The next-gen MX-5 Miata thread

I think the overall styling package of the ND works slightly better as a convertible, but the Fiat will work so much better as a hard-top. Would just suit the lines so much more than the ND. Can't wait to see the Fiat in the flesh. I also prefer the front on the Fiat to the ND's.

That headlight looks like a huge bubble. See it on the left?

I don't think that the new Miata is a good looking car but it's in no way offensive and from certain angles it looks rather good. But man has Fiat managed to take the ugly to the extreme with this thing. The front is... ugh brb gotta vomit.

I'm fully with @Keef on this, the thing is atrocious.

It's amazing how much better it looks when it's low to the ground like a sports car instead of high like a crossover.

I'm still not a fan of it's face, but I think it looks like a fine car once it doesn't have a gap you could stuff children in at the top of the wheelarch.
Like girls, you can't trust a car whose arches don't touch.

As ugly as a first-gen NB. The styling looks like a toy town take on the second Viper roadster, without the muscle.

I lIke it, prefer it a lot over the actual Miata. However, that one sideview picture of it looks odd, as in the convertible top. It looks small, needs more a slope to it maybe. Or just make a coupe. That would be perfect.

The face of the Fiat 124 here is giving me a vibe of the Maserati Gran Sport. I guess I can grow to like it more. For now, there's something off about it.

Size & a turbo. I'd say that will the only saving grace for those not convinced by its looks. The ND looks so low. That should carry over to the 124. These picture angles don't show how small and low it is.

When someone ups the boost on the 124, its looks might be forgiven. Gotta hope the suspension is tuned right.

Wonder if Flyin Miata have one on order.

Don't like the double chin it's got at the front. But at least the rear end is a nice twist on the MX-5's already beautiful backside.

I love that little 124. The styling, the interior, the idea behind it. Everything. I'd absolutely love one to blast about it in the summer.

Well, apparently the 124 will go rallying and shall also get appropriate scorpion treatment + hard top for such endeavors.

This was my ride for the weekend. I was tasked with driving the car out to Chuckwalla (about 3 hours from my place) and tracking the car on Sunday. I'm so impressed with the car. The infotainment system didn't take me any time to learn; it's very user-friendly. Engine has power in every gear, turns well, stops well, and is just damn fun to drive. DSC can be intrusive at times, but it will protect an untrained driver. TCS can be fully defeated, but the DSC can not. It's a good feeling to get the point-by from R35 GT-Rs and C6 Corvettes.

Overall feel is similar to an NA, but you need to be more precise. The car really doesn't like to be chucked into corners. Slow and smooth inputs will be faster than driving it like a monkey. My main gripe with the car is the electric steering; it's way overboosted. No problem driving around town, but on track it isn't very good for driver confidence. Kinda feels like a Miata connected to a G27. Hopefully this and the DSC can be sorted out with some more ECU hacking.

I'd quite like to try one with a few modifications. I'm running around in our standard long-termer at the moment; 2-litre model, limited-slip diff, Bilsteins.

It's a neat little car and it'd be a great thing to use day-to-day (unfortunately it's not me running the car), but I'm also not keen on the steering - it's not just over-assisted, but it's not quite as consistent as my NA either.

I'll hopefully get to try one on a track at some point - I actually find steering feel and weight is less important on track than it is on the road, since it's much easier to build confidence on a track - you always know what the surface is going to be like (unless it rains, of course) and the corners are the same radius lap after lap. On the road there are so many extra factors that erode your confidence when you're not entirely sure what the front wheels are doing.

Surprised you can't turn off the DSC either - I wonder if that's an America-only thing. My colleague certainly had DSC turned off for this video:

The 949 car also has wider tires with less sidewall flex. During initial turn in, it's hard to tell where the limits are due to the lack of feedback. On an NA/NB, you can really throw it into corners and steer the car with the throttle. On the ND, if you throw it around like an NA, you'll likely spin the car or understeer off.

Not me driving, but here's the in-car video from this weekend. Average of 1.42G during cornering. The 2:02 lap is on par with a full race weight NA Supermiata.

I wish I had a stock car to compare it to.

Well, a customer ordered the 2L with the optional spoiler kit and optional black alloys. Turns out BBS are not available here in Oz(too expensive to import apparently). The fake "mesh" 17s aren't worth it. Pics in a few hours.

Yeh, not a fan. Great lil car though... Someday I may upgrade, but it'll have to be modified like mine.
93, added turbo, rollbar, MSefi (laptop stuff) susp, etc x 10, basically... Like NFS :D
