The Obutto oZone...

Tonyd
Great Thread. I was going to buy 2 Daytona Twins $2K (limited tracks compared to what you can do on a PS3, which I don't own yet) for my Daughter until I came across the playseats and other options out there. I'm looking to put 2 units side by side in my basement so my daughter and I can race. I think the playseats look great and the new design with the post up looks like a fix to the older problems ( I don't know if that's true or not). It also looks more sporty than the obutto cockpit. I'm going to have these in one area and won't have to store them out of the way, so I want something that looks great, but also performs well. The Playseats look awesome, but the price gets up there after you start adding a few options. Any ideas or input on what's the best cockpit out there. Maybe Obutto is making a new sleek design? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks everyone, Tony D. (Too Bad they don't have these somewhere in Michigan to tryout)

Tony, you could always paint the Obutto if you wanted to.

The killer of the PlaySeat is that pedal angle. It's vet unnatural and not adjustable. Makes me wince thinking about the pains I had in the front of my left ankle...

I just got an obutto Ozone a month ago and with the buttkicker Gamer 2 it is the best set up out there. My friend is so jealous he refuses to play GT5 at his place and brings his Ps3 and game so he can race with my obutto and Fanatec PTSW.

Even though making my friend envious of my setup, The best part is the customer service from main preformance PC. There was a small tear in my race seat when I received it, but they had no problem sending a replacement seat out to me. The service was soo good their support team called me a few times to make sure that i recived the seat and was happy.

Now I have two seats all I have to do is take a trip to the auto parts store and get a fabric repair kit

Where and how did you mount the Gamer2 ? I have same setup. (still in their boxes)

Thanks.

Hey guys, I asked this earlier in the thread but now that it seems like we have a lot of obutto owners here I'd like to ask again.

Can anyone with the desk attachment comment on how this cockpit would work as a full time computer desk/workstation.

I only have a small place so I can't really have a cockpit and a computer desk, it's just redundant because I do most of my racing on PC, plus I usually share my monitors for my PC and consoles.

I just want to know if the obutto can be an all in one solution for a person like me?

Well I work from home and this was another reason to get the obutto. IF I had a triple screen setup, the plexiglass desk attachment and a PC ( I use multiple macs but really want a gaming PC now ) I would say yes. I don't feel comfortable with a laptop on the obutto since the GT2 is now mounted and I'd have to swing everything out anytime I need to get up.

Do you find yourself moving around alot at your current workstation?

How much time do you plan on spending, outside of gaming, in the chair?

Hey fellas, this is Chris from OBUTTO :dopey:

Just wanted to say it's great seeing all of you enjoying your cockpits 👍 I put some assembly vids up on our site a month or so ago so you may find them helpful if you are still waiting for your cockpit to arrive.

Everything will depend on how much desk space you need. If your needs are modest (i.e. keyboard, mouse, and beverage space), it will probably work perfectly even if you hard mount your wheel (which I did). With the wheel on, you're left with about enough space for a mouse mat on either side.

If you have enough room to use it, the included keyboard tray is fantastic. It's huge, and makes a great sturdy second platform. It requires quite a bit of space because of the wide arc for it to swing around though.

If you need more desk space then that, you're forced to use your wheel's clamps and get a little creative about mounting the desk accessory. For your information, the metal steering wheel platform is not really Fanatec clamp friendly because of the bar that's welded underneath, so you'll have to mount the desk accessory far enough towards you to clear it so the clamp can work properly.

By the way, fastening your desk accessory to your steering wheel platform is purely a do-it-yourself affair. If you're hard mounting your wheel it's just a matter of drilling holes for the wheel and you're done, if you're not, then you have to decide if you're using screws (not sure how crazy you are about screw heads on top of your desk surface), or some kind of epoxy. Industrial strength velcro would probably work too, but my steering wheel platform came slightly bent, so this wouldn't have been a secure option for me.

In summary, if you're needs are modest, it'll work out great. If you need more space it could still work, but it gets a little more complicated.

Note to Chris: I love everything about the cockpit except for the pedal tray; even at it's lowest, it's a little too steep for CSPs, and you can't move it forward past the crossbar. A flat tray welded to the bottom would have been perfect for me (I have it resting, not fastened, to the very bottom bar of the LCD stand. This is working for me at the moment). One more thing, the gearshift platform is way too high. I took a chopsaw to the end of the first tube going down from the platform and it's at the perfect height now (note: I'm using the x-cpo shifter mount).

I just put the buttkicke game on the horizontal post where the seat mount attaches to the front section with 4 bolts
I found it works well there without any mods

Try mounting it to the horizontal bar for the shifter. Posted some pix a page or 2 back. Now, I am using the vertical socket method.

Honestly, these two spots have similar results.

Hello Chris from Obutto

I was hoping you could clarify something for me. I live in Australia and I recently went to buy the Obutto racing cockpit with triple screens/keyboard holder and I got directed to this place in New Zealand http://www.simparts.co.nz/ for purchasing in Australia. Now, the cockpit is US$400 which works out to roughly AU$450 but this simparts joint wants to sell it for over $AU700 + freight.

Understandably there is no way I'll be paying that much extra for it. The site itself is also quite dodgy as I couldn't register there to buy it even after I returned the signup confirmation email.

Long story short, I refuse to buy from this website.

Is there any other way I can purchase an Obutto cockpit in Australia without going through this simparts website?

I was told the Canadian shipment is held up at the border a few days ago. They said I should receive mine by next week!!!

Chris probably doesn't pilfer these threads regularly. You probably stand a better chance contacting him through the Obutto website. I can't remember how I got his email addy but when I did, he was good about responding to my emails right away. That was one of the main reasons I bought an Obutto other than the quality.

Cheers Shogunz ;)

Hey Anes,

Simparts.co.nz is our distributor for NZ & Oz and are very reputable in the simracing community....no worries there man ;) They are the first distributor we started selling cockpits too around 5yrs ago 👍 and they've sold MANY cockpits to some very pleased customers.

The price in NZ or Oz will definitely be higher due to the crazy high import duties, which is not the case in places like America, or of course China where we manufacture and sell direct to gamers. Due to the large size of the box (VERY large) it would be far too costly to ship our cockpits from Beijing to NZ/AU, like over USD500 for shipping alone. Therefore, we work with one distributor/importer per country or region so they can import container loads of cockpits to make them readily available.

Anyhow, last time I checked simparts.co.nz site the shipping was included in the price, and the triple mounts were around 100 bucks extra on top of the price for the basic simracing cockpit.

Hope this clarifies ;)

Best regards,
Chris

Hey Booey, I ditched my desk 5yrs ago after making the first OBUTTO cockpit and have never looked back. The seating position is VERY different than a desk but far more ergonomic and a joy to use a computer from :) I spend around 10-12hrs a day in my cockpit working & killing, with some days spent racing or flying too. Someone would have to pay me alotta dough to go back to using a computer from a desk LOL!!

Here is a link to a vid on Youtube with me doing some killing in BC2 but you can get the idea of how comfy the seating position is......no more aching shoulders, back, wrists, whatever just goodness heh!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jez-EKgmOoo

Of course in the end if you do primarily writing at a desk then this would not be ideal for ya but if you are primarily using your computer at your desk then you can't go wrong with the OBUTTO man ;)

Best regards,
Chris

Watch that double posting Chris!!!! ;)

Nice to see you here buddy. After drilling a couple of 1/4" holes to anchor the Fanatec ClubSport Table Clamp, that thing is rock solid! The CSPTC moves the wheel about 7" closer to the driver. Which is great for those of us who don't have long legs. Now I can I can actually use the seat adjustment slider!

How much does the Thrustmaster T500rs hang off the edge of the wheel mounting plate?

Here is my Fanatec GT3rs with CSPTC mounted to my rig.

Sorry about the poor lighting and highly caffeinated "blur".

well done Dave 👍 glad you got it working!

Not sure of the exact measurement for how much the new Thrustmaster's casing overhangs the edge but it looks to be 2-3 inches at least

I can't save the picture with the FaceBook iPhone app, they "fixed" that a few updates ago. Anyway, looking at the Thrustmaster T500 Facebook page, one of the Obutto/T500 pictures gives a really good indication. Imagine a vertical line from the rim of the wheel in relation to where the front and rear frames are joined together. This is pretty close to the position with the GT3/CSTC mounted.

Found it...

How many of you Obutto guys have the ButtKicker Gamer 2 attached? I'm very close on buying one, but would like some first-hand feedback on what you think about it. Does it vibrate the rig enough? Would you have rather gone for the BK Advance?

Check the recent posts in the Buttkicker thread.

I've been meaning to post a pic since I got mine in February so here it is! Haven't been using it much for GT lately... so its usually over at the computer desk for iRacing.

Nice you managed to secure Fanantec wheel on Obutto with ClubSport Table Clamp due to Obutto V-bar . Does the fanantec shifter ,wheel and pedal feel solid on Obutto ?

I only use the paddle shifters, sorry.

So anyone here using the seat have a bigger waist? I'm really loving every aspect of this rig and am just a few packet transfers away from having it sent to my home... but I need to know if the seat will be ok for my 38 inch waist or will I end up having to use this cockpit as motivation to start running?

I'm a 36 and it's fine. It's quite similar to a sports car seat. It's not snug like a glove and it's not like sitting on flat surfaces seats either. It doesn't hold (confine) you like a Corvette seat would.

Me personally, I need extra lumbar support. I'm using an old car seat cover and the lumbar pad that came with a car seat we bought for our son a few years ago. The seat was given away some time ago and I found the lumbar pad on a shelf ;)

Sparco makes a lumbar pad with Velcro to attach to surfaces. I just haven't gotten around to purchasing something yet.

If you do have any issues, I'm sure Chris will do whatever he can for you.
