The Obutto oZone...

Hi.

The FAQ on the web says that pedal tray is fully adjustable, but I ever see the pictures with it set in this same position:

There are different position that the cross bar can be mounted. Though with the height of the seat and your sitting position the way that was shown proved to be the best and most comfortable.

Would it not be more comfortable with the floorpan horizontal ? It looks like you'd have to lift your foot (feet) up off the floor every time you pressed on them. as opposed to having your heels on the floorpan with your forefoot hovering right over the pedals.

I guess thats the difference between floor hinged pedal vs normal top hinged style. The issue with the pedal sitting on floor level(talking G25 here), the way you are sitting in Obutto with a pretty stretch out low to the floor position(knee slightly bent), you are rotating your ankle quite a bit down. Where as on an angle, you are pushing it forward with your knee. For me thats more comfortable. and closer to actual pedal operation on a car. When I was using my desk though sitting more upright and higher off the ground, I just leave the pedal on the floor and press it into the floor.

Does anyone know how the optional acrylic desktop mounts onto the wheel plate? Or does it attach some other way? I'd like to try or at least look into doing a DIY before dropping $100 for the actual Obutto desktop. Pictures or diagrams would be great!

I already answered you

Thanks BlackHemi!

Velcro? REALLY??? I suppose if it's industrial grade and the glue is strong and the majority if the plate is covered.

Mine shipped today, should be here someday this week.

Replacing my old, Playseat Evolution. Was going to go the custom route, but took the lazy way out and ordered one of these. The Playseat served me well, for a few years, so hopefully this one will too.

Better have some help bringing the box in! Or bring parts in one by one. It's a hundred pounds ;). My FedEx guy didn't even ring my doorbell, he dropped in off and took off!

Same thing happened to me. I had a $10 tip ready. He just dropped it off in my leasing office while my neighbor directly across from me had his amazon order at his door. :indiff:

My Obutto will be delivered today and with all the snow in my area it's going to be a challenge for the Fedex guy. My wife will freak out with the size and weight of the box. Lol

Just got my Obutto setup last night. Damn, that was quite the ordeal...

First, I have never seen so much dirty bubblewrap in my life. Seriously. I think 5% of the box weight is solely from the filth on the packaging. And, taking all that wrap off took at least an hour!

I'm generally pleased with the Obutto construction. I find the seat quite comfortable. I do think the seat rails are a little stiff and make hard to move the seat around. I'm also not terribly impressed with the keyboard tray. I find it sits far too close to me, even with the seat all the way back. I have to slide it forward along the angled arm in order to get some reasonable distance from it, and then it feels a little unstable. I wish there was another support on the opposite side... right now it feels rather bouncy. I'll need to play with it more, I think, before I'm happy with it. Fortunately, I didn't buy it for the keyboard tray, so I'm not too disappointed.

I did find attaching the pedal tray to be rather difficult. That little hole in the tray is supposed to line up with the horizontal bar down by my feet... what now? That hole barely had any sort of correspondence with the hole in the pedal tray.

Does anyone know what the little bit of extra rubber is for? I think it's supposed to go around the pedal tray crossbar, but wouldn't that make the bar too thick?

My seat is different from the ones pictured here too. Instead of the script 'b' on the headrest, it's a red star. I'm sure it's a meaningless change, but I'd be interested if that's what others recently got as well. The back of the chair says 'obutto'.

Sadly it was too late for me to use it, but I'll have time tonight to give it a spin. I'm still getting everything tweaked and fitted to my preferences, and I'm really looking forward to my first race. I would be interested to hear other's first impressions of the cockpit/building process though.

I got the Red Star seat model as well. Received it about 2 weeks ago.

Red Star on mine too....maybe its a subliminal touch to convert us to Chinese communism...:D

I've been using mine for ~3 weeks now and still loving it. Making fine tweaks through to my G25 pedal with the pedal spacers I've got. Hard mounting the pedal is a good thing though...

If the keyboard/DS3, remote & phone table is too close despite the seat being all the way back, I would say check the mounting position. Move the mounting bracket forward.

I've asked Chris about the extra rubber and it serves no specific purpose.

I'm not quite understanding what issue you are having with the bolt for the pedal plate. Stick it through the plate and then through the hole in the bar. I would suggest not making everything "tight" until that parts are affixed to one another. If you over tighten the cross bar, you'll have difficulty adjusting the height of the wheel plate.

In the end, I have the pedal plate resting on the front bar, not using the cross bar at all. I find having angles cause too much stress on the front of my ankles. Especially the left for left foot braking.

It took me 1 day to figure out sliding 100 pounds of metal around my basement was going to get old quick! So I built a platform with castors. I can't recommend this enough! It will also save the life of the 2 long carriage bolts.

I have the keyboard bracket on the last set of holes on the seat platform. If I move it forward, the tray will hit the steering wheel mount. I guess I was thinking I could have both at the same time (keyboard and wheel).

I'll try to draw some ASCII art to illustrate what my issue was. If the bolt is going in perpendicular to the pedal plate, the hole in the crossbar is at an angle to the bolt (side view): ----()---> \. The \ represents the non parallel angle at which the hole in the crossbar is drilled relative to the bolt that needs to go through it. There's just enough play to get the bolt in, but the three holes (two in the bar and one in the pedal plate) don't line up well.

Do you find the pedal tray moves around much if you don't have it bolted to something?

I have a small project in mind that will ever so slightly alter my Obutto. Can't talk about it now. But I was shocked when my wife brought xxxxxx xxxx xxxx home from work instead of the typical xxxx xxxx xxxx!

Jeff, I just noticed you had replied. I'm sorry.

As for the G25 pedal box, the carpet teeth bite into the rubber just fine. In fact, the ribs make front to back adjustments a bit finer.

Raise your wheel up, unless you are a short person. I'm 5'7" and have no
Problem swinging the tray in and out. But, if I want to swing it all the way in, I need to swing the shifter mount out a bit. I like it tucked in a little. If you look at real racers, the wheel is higher than in a passenger vehicle. Chris recommends a higher position also.

I'm sure you have, did you flip the bar over. It 'should' fit in quite easily. Can you post a picture?

Anyone have a link for a how-to on hard-mounting the G25/27 pedals on the Obutto? I just ordered myself the cockpit and a G27 to go with it and it sounds like I'll want to hard-mount the pedals. Just wanted to know specifics on what I'll need to get the job done, that way I can be ready to go when everything gets here. Thanks in advance...

I'm curious too, been pondering this for a little while. I suppose once you find the spot you like, it would be easy with a proper template. Tape it to the back of the pedal plate and drill the required holes with a metal drilling bit.

Mine arrived earlier this week, finally got it assembled, and every thing wired up. I couldnt be happier. Clubsport Pedals are very tight and wont go the whole way to the front of the plate, but they suit me fine where they are. My 27" monitor works very well on the stand. My only complaint is, I didnt buy it sooner, instead of trying to go the cheaper route with another rig...lol

I just printed the template from Logitech's website:

http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5475

Then just mark my drill spot and drilled it on a drill press at work. You can probably do it with a hand drill...

Note that in the link the "shifter" and "pedals" links are swapped...

Make sure when you print it you set your printer to print 100% size of the image. It fits in the 11x17 size paper no problem...

I did double check the hole spacing against the dimension of the paper, just in case...

Also be sure to note that the pattern is not symmetrical...

Personally I had more issue trying to drill in with the drill press since the plate is quite awkwardly shaped to place under the drill press...

Great Thread. I was going to buy 2 Daytona Twins $2K (limited tracks compared to what you can do on a PS3, which I don't own yet) for my Daughter until I came across the playseats and other options out there. I'm looking to put 2 units side by side in my basement so my daughter and I can race. I think the playseats look great and the new design with the post up looks like a fix to the older problems ( I don't know if that's true or not). It also looks more sporty than the obutto cockpit. I'm going to have these in one area and won't have to store them out of the way, so I want something that looks great, but also performs well. The Playseats look awesome, but the price gets up there after you start adding a few options. Any ideas or input on what's the best cockpit out there. Maybe Obutto is making a new sleek design? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks everyone, Tony D. (Too Bad they don't have these somewhere in Michigan to tryout)

Thanks to everyone for the comprehensive feedback on the Obutto. I've been mulling the Playseat Evo for a week or so, but I just couldn't convince myself it was the right choice given the lack of adjustability for the pedal angle and the center wheel support. Not that making a decision would have helped much as they're out of stock everywhere. Thanks to this thread I gave some serious thought to the Obutto. I pulled the trigger just now. Hope it works out as well as others have reported here!
