I'd like to wish ND4SPD a Happy Birthday. I made a thread for it here, so pay your respects.

The reason why I don't make Threads for it for others, is because a fair few of you don't visit the Rumble Strip. So don't feel left out. ;)

It was made with the spray can on MS paint. Jeff, my gramma wants you to come over for dinner some time. So does my mom. I'd rather not be embarassed though.

Well guys, I just got accepted into the United States Military Academy at West Point! :dopey:

I bet I am going to be the only cadet there that has completed San Andreas! :sly:

Congratulations, Deli!

So, I guess that means you won't be posting here often anymore. :(

I don't think he goes in til August...

Congrats Deli

I leave for New York on June 26th to be exact. I think I'll get in about zero gaming while I'm there, so I better squeeze in some more San Andreas beforehand. I find myself pretty busy these days, and it is going to be tough to cut off gaming completely for college. If you didn’t know, West Point is a very intense environment, but when break-time rolls around, I’ll have to pull out the PS2 for a few hours!

Thanks for the congrats. I still have a good five months. ;)

I thought west point was a party school :dopey:

What are you going to study (if you don't mind sharing)??

Also, don't worry about gaming-- I used to be a big gamer back in high school and right after-- when I went in the Navy-- I pretty much stopped four 7 years-- then fell right back into it-- I mainly played computer games before and after-- My PS2 is my first console game since my Atari 5200.

Anyway, my point is, you will be pretty busy and you probably won't have time to even miss it-- and your priorities will probably change somewhat-- Essentially all the military BS you go thru is just a resocialization process-- its designed change you-- you will find for a while you won't even be thinking independently for the most part-- you will be part of a big army/unit group think....and after marching everywhere-- you will find yourself, when walking somewhere with friends--without even thinking about it--walking in step--its pretty funny when you realize it.

I'm not saying you will be brainwashed or anything, but it will change you in subtle ways-- you probably won't be able to tell, but your family and friends will. It will make a man out of you one way or the other.

I honestly don't know at this point in time :guilty:! I really like math, so I am thinking about majoring in some field of mathematics or engineering, though I haven't really given any serious thought about a career in 'the real world.' I still have quite a bit of time to determine what I want to study, because the first two years at West Point are made up entirely of required classes and no electives. West point is an excellent college for engineering, and everybody receives a BS automatically when they graduate.

I believe you. It will be tough, but deffinately a rewarding experience. I'm obligated to 5 years of active duty in the Army after I graduate, but after that, I'll be a gamer until I die :sly:! (just like you, right?)

I've done a lot of thinking about my college choices, and I think I chose West Point for that reason: to become a better person, be more prepared for the rest of my life, and to do something that I will always be proud of. :)

I hope you enjoyed and benefited from your Navy experience. 👍

That's quite a technological leap from Atari to PS2!

I hope you enjoyed and benefited from your Navy experience. 👍

Benefited-- I'd have to say yes.

Enjoyed-- split decision-- I made friends that I pretty much trust completely-- on a ship, your life is in their hands and theirs in yours--we worked hard and played hard  -- I'm quite certain your experience will be similar.

On the negative side-- I didn't mind going to sea on an actual operation-- where the sub I was on, was doing what it was designed to do--an attack sub hunts other subs--you operate a sub on an op, like you are at war--it's very serious, an actually felt like you were doing something important..... but unfortunately, 3/4 of our sea time was spent out doing nothing-- and the CO I had right before I left, left a bad taste in my mouth-- also, at my command, if you were not making a career of the navy, then you were considered to have an attitude problem--regardless of how well you did your job, the command would not put you in for commendations (medals)-- not sure if it was just my ship or a navy wide thing.

My recommendation to you is if they ask you your career intentions, and you are leaning toward getting out-- respond politely "I'm undecided at this time" ;)

At least you have some time to decide your major (if you don't know what to study yet)-- good math skills will serve you well in any science/technical major 👍

Congrats again...

Well I'm back after my 12 day absence. I just moved into the house we just built, and for the past 2 weeks we've been working flat-out on it, with flooring, retaining walls, excavating, and plenty more. I'm absolutely tired. I just set up the computer and connected ISDN (128K as opposed to the 56K I was using). It's also on a "splitter", meaning the phone-line has been split in two to give the ability to talk on the phone/receive faxes and be on the internet at the same time. I still have to get some settings to boost the rendering speed in Firefox so it runs much better, but I'm seeing a large difference already. One thing I noticed was that when I connect it takes only a matter of a few seconds. It's great! :D

Anyway, I should be as frequent as I used to be, if not more as I will be connected almost non-stop. Seems not too much has happened around here. I'm relieved the Record Book hasn't been busy. Seems a lot of other people haven't been around much, either.

I'ven't (I just made that up, it's like "I have not", reduced to "I havn't", which I reduced to "I'ven't") played San Andreas in quite a while. I'mn't really interested in it right now. I've been playing this game called "Mercenaries Playground of Destruction", which is a really cool game. Basically you're a mercenary, and there's this North Korean general, and he's naughty. You've got the Russian Mafia, the Chinese, Allied nations, and South Korea all giving you assignments and stuff like that. I'd say it's basically Grand Theft Auto: Cool Explosions, Awsome Weaponry, and Other Really Cool Military Stuff. I'd suggest playing it.

I've been busy the last 2 weeks-- I did a couple superjumps a week or so ago and thats pretty much it....I've checked in here a couple times-- have actually been busy on GTA forums-- the VC forum has been fairly busy and everybody seems to want to start a new thread for everything-- I've locked or moved at least 30 threads since I became a "mod-lite" over there--- tooo many newbssss :scared:

I thought it was going to be easy-- you are spoiled over here Jimmy 👍

i'veen (i have been :D) playing burnout 3 and competing at cyberscore.. up to 4th place over all :) itikretyson (i think pretty soon) i'm gonna start playing SA again, or maybe a little of both.. i would like to try the mercenaries game, but it will probably have to wait til after i'm done with GT4 -- i know i know, its still got a little while.. but i'm still having fun with these 2.. i haven't been to GTAforums in a while.. got tired of sifting through all the crap... i have been and will continue checking these forums at least once a day.. the quiz thread was pretty active for a while there..

We can't get ADSL (as we call it here) in my area. It's quite common for ADSL to be unavailable in lesser populated areas. It should hopefully be available sometime in the next year or so, says Telstra, but that was what they said last year.

By the way Spuds, I consider myself to be very spoiled moderating here. :D

Glad to hear the moving in to the house has all gone smoothly.

I won't be here for another 3 weeks, I managed to rack up a $360 internet bill over the holidays so I can't go online until it's payed. So by all!

Blakw

Heh. The San Andreas Record Book is becoming dormant. For a while, the Vice City Record Book was becoming more active.

Either way, welcome back, Blake. Nice to have you around. ;)

I'm surprised the interest has died out so fast-- maybe everyone is just taking a breather... it should pick up again in june when its released for xbox/PC... not sure why the recordbook thread has been so quiet---but its been good for me-- I've moved up a few spots in some races...

I've been working on my motorcycle races mainly (not that I've had alot of time to play)--- I'm getting pretty good at driving the bike in them and might give "ocean drive" in VC another shot.

Not sure what the next month will be like for me-- still getting ready for my new kid-- is due in 4 more weeks... :scared:

Wow, congratulations. Boy or girl, do you know? Another little Spuds running around ... or possibly a Spudette...?

I very much got over San Andreas. Looking to play Vice City when I get over FIFA 2005, too.

im seeing T.Vercetti taking out my racing records one by one. Its soo fast, me wonders how he gets it so fast.

I can ask the same of you ;) -- I'm happy if I can equal any of yours (I think I've only beat one of your times and equaled one other).... I was more impressed that you got those times that fast (soon after the game came out)-- some of the races are so frustrating that some of your times will be safe (people won't have the patience to beat them)--- you still have a pretty good cushion-- I recently stumbled across a backup I made of the VC recordbook from sep 2003 and the race times were laughable compared to what were achieved later-- the only one that didn't improve significantly was VC endurance.... you have set the bar pretty high for SA.

and to answer Jimmy's question.... we are having another boy.

Thanks a lot spuds 👍. If i do remeber correctly if the super angel is taken out of the VC record book im up the pointy end with equal 1sts or 2nds. But as i was too lazy to get superangle save i only use hotring racer most and pcj for one of em.

Pretty much 40 - 60 hours were spent on racing/flying. in SA

Edit

ive written down all races and times that are better than me, so when im not competing in GT3 (which incidently im quite fast at) i will work on my SA races. Id like to see a video of t vercettis plane races. and does the difference between NTSC and PAL hrz make a difference to times?.
