How about we take the same cars to Grand Valley (full, forward) next week for the longer races. That's one original track I like a lot, GVE too. I did some laps in a couple cars, preliminary targets will be 2:09 and 142mph, all other specs/requirements stay the same as this week. I don't think you should have to adjust your cars much, if at all. Target was set in a stock 02 RX-7 Spirit R Type A on SH.

:yuck:

On the bright side it gets GV out of the way and it won't crop up in the rotation for a while. 👍 I'd like to like GV as it's the closest to a proper circuit of any of the original tracks [edit: apart from Apricot Hill], but in truth I really despise it. That stupid chicane before the last corner utterly ruins the full version for me. Sector One is all right, everything else is just a chore.

I've always liked the flow of it, and the scenery. The chicane doesn't bother me much, but I rarely get it right. I like Apricot Hill too, it feels and looks like a proper circuit, but it has an ugly chicane at the end too. Deep Forest is just ok, I hate that vague gray run off area. Is it legal track? I don't know, but there's no reason for it to be there. It has a couple unfortunately placed yumps too.

Forgot about Apricot Hill (for shame), that one's more like a proper circuit than GV. Not a huge fan of the final chicane there, but at least you can attack it aggressively, as it doesn't have ridiculously high kerbing. :)

Yeah, the inside curb on the left hand of that final GV chicane will upset most cars. I either try to avoid it or get my wheels up on the grass.

 :dopey: I just ragequit from a test session and was about to write here that there was a good chance of me not showing up next week. But, it turns out I somehow misread '2:09' as '2:02' and couldn't figure out how I was going to find four more seconds, having stripped out all the weight from my MX-5 and bolted on SMs. :banghead:

:dunce: :dunce: :dunce:

My Mazda should be right on target once I put the right tyres back on and put the cement back in the boot. 👍 :P

:dopey: Took me at least a year, in part because it was at least a year before I played a non-racing game so I hadn't even touched the DS3 in that time. And I only found out by accident, because I was looking at the controller thinking 'why is the "analog" button so big on this thing?'

I still don't turn it on that way, though, since the controller just sits there slowly running down the battery if I do.

^ You might not be aware, but the controller can actually plug into the console which keeps the batteries from draining. :dopey: I have to use the controllers to power on because my PS3's are behind my tv's and not terribly convenient to get to.

What group of cars would you guys be interested in testing/racing for the next go-round? I'm leaning towards AWD street cars, been a while since I've driven/raced an AWD car. Or maybe some kind of race cars?

Yep, AWD sounds good but I'd really like to race some of the Touring style race cars. I think the MX5 is one of my Fav's ...

You could combine the two??? AWD Race cars, but I guess that would be a grid full of Skylines and the odd Scooby! Edit I was wrong!

hmmm lets see, it what that would look like...

4WD Race Cars

I would like to do 4wd street cars but I fear the grid will be overloaded with impure as and lancers :nervous:. Most of the 4wd "race cars" are actually rally cars and I'm not sure how much we can modify race to meet a specific time since the parts you can add tend to be rather limited. Yeah and gtr race cars tend to be rwd more often then not. I really like those spreadsheets hobbsy 👍 but I've lost the link for it. Would you kindly post it here again please?

The site i am using to get this info from is...

Edit: quick search of 4WD Street cars (no concept) gives us a healthy choice of 150 cars...

I don't think I have any of these awd Race Cars. :ill:

There are a few more awd race cars besides Imprezas and Lancers, enough to make a grid. But I probably need to look at how much they can be tuned to meet a target. If some of them already have all the power bits added it could be hard for slower guys to get them up to speed. There are plenty of awd street cars we can use for now though, more than just the Scooby and Mitsu.

About mixing, IMO the awd's need to be by themselves because they get a mega-launch off the line and any other drivetrain spends the rest of the race trying to catch back up. They also handle turns differently which puts them out of balance with other drivetrains. To an extent, the same goes for FF's except the other way around, they get dusted off the line and sometimes struggle to keep up with other cars in the turns. That's why I've split the categories by drivetrains, makes it a lot easier to create a balanced grid. And for obvious reasons, street cars and race cars won't match up either. 👍

All Premium (thus, able to have number plates)?

Err... No! That would be a slightly lower number of a possible 37! Of which there is quite a vast difference between cars as they range from a Golf up to a Veyron :scared:

Looking at it in more, there appears to be a natural split at 480pp

We'd lean more towards the Golf side of things than the Veyron. I'll have a look at them over the weekend and see what kind of candidates we're looking at and what the recommendations would be. 37 sounds like a very reasonable selection, though I presume some of those could be different versions of the same model (probably 25 different GT-R's alone. )

Does this work better?

(attached Pdf)

Dibs on the Land Rover!!!!

Yeah, once you remove the Lambo's and Veyron's it's mostly GT-R's, Evo's and Impreza's, but that's ok with me. There's enough versions of each to make a diverse grid, toss the Lancia, an Audi or two, and the Golf in there and things look interesting. I'll have a look around this weekend and see what the best choice would be to do next. And I'm open to suggestions too. 👍

Maybe set the target time slightly lower. more power, close to 550PP range so no need to downtune and can get some slip out of these tanks.

Did some rough selection already. Lancia, Audi and '94 Skyline. That's the year I got my driving license :D

From hobbs's list found one more possible option 👍

Looking at the list, I'd probably use the 2009 GT-R SpecV to set the target. It's towards the top of the useable cars so most of the other cars would be tuned-up to match, I'd guess the two R8's would be on par and the Black Godzilla may have to be downtuned a bit for some people (but not for everyone).

What about vintage rally cars, I have done absolutely no research on this so I don't know how many cars there are and how much work it would take to get them competitive with each other, but I think it would make for an amazing looking grid. I'm sure none of them are premium but you can't change number plates on race cars so I don't think it would be a problem.

^Those are on my radar but I'm wanting to stay simple and broad for now so we can get used to how this all works. I'm still learning what it takes to get cars dialed into each other and it seems it's easier to do with street cars, especially when there's a fairly large selection. We'll eventually get into more specific classes of cars but I need to investigate the race cars to see how much they can be modified first. As long as we can still toss a little bit of power on them and/or remove a little weight then we should be able to make them work.

I'll probably be on later this evening to test some new cars, I'll let you guys know what I find out.

Afraid to say, I am going to second that. It's been a heavy weekend and I have nothing left in the tank!

Don't think I'll be doing anybody any favours by putting myself on the grid.

Have a good one, see you guys soon

Well, apart from that one thing* good fun racing today, people.

*I didn't expect to encounter rabbit-chasing outside of career mode. XD

Yeah, sorry about that guys. It's been dealt with. Other than that, good racing (for the most part). I managed to have some good battles.

Next week we'll take the same cars to Grand Valley. Same specs, targets will be 2:09 and 141mph/227kph. We'll do a 15 minute race and then a 35 minute race with a reverse grid.
