thanks. it's right on yonge street, by ryerson. they've closed off a long stretch, between dundas square and carlton. check the set out at night, it's pretty cool to see some of the scenes in action. also, i know edward norton is working but late at 3 am or so.

Nice! I thought most of your portraits using 50mm
Does anyone know where to buy new lens that ships to Canada?
It seems most retailers in Canada are so overpriced

I think you'll find that most lenses will be the same price between Canada and the US, if not even cheaper in Canada when taking shipping into consideration. Remember the dollar is at 98 cents US today, almost 99 cents.

That's if you're talking good lenses. You can get some cheap ones from say Ritz Camera for much less than you could anything in Canada, but they are just that - cheap.

I just bought a 50-200mm Pentax lens for my k10d for $199 from London Drugs. B&H Photo has the same lens listed for $229 US. There is a $50 Mail in rebate available, but not outside the US. Prices on ebay for the same lens are typically in the $200 + range US

Now, that's pentax, I'm not sure what canon and nikon, etc go for in the US, but while on a trip to North Dakota this last weekend I noticed that lens were actually more expensive at Best Buy there than at Best Buy here. I would say that if you get into $1500+ lenses they might be somewhat cheaper in the US, but under that I would say the Canadian prices are comparable.

I have found that filters are cheaper in the US than here in Canada. I picked up some low end Hoya filters (67mm cir-pol and UV) for $40 CDN, shipping included. The cheapest I could get both here would be around $100 taxes in.

edit: with a lens, I would sooner pay a little extra to see it before I buy it than to order one online and risk there being an issue.

nah almost every single shoot I've done with people has been with my 28-135

I am thinking to pick up a Canon's 100-400 f4.5-5.6L IS. I know it is super expensive but it is super useful for a long run. I tried B&H but when I tried to calculate the shipping and it didn't go though with 2 tries. Thanks for the advice C_F, Ritz camera does have very good deal, so did you shop there before? are they reliable?

I also bought a lens from Ritz. It's a 55-200 f4.5 It's actually a rebranded Tamron lens under the name Quantaray. The guy that worked there told me that all of their Quantaray branded items are just rebranded Tamron and Sigma products, so quality is going to be good.

I'd save about $200 USD and get a Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0L USM plus a Sigma 18-50mm 2.8 EX or a Canon 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM, since 150mm (equiv.) on the short end is a bit too limiting for me IMO. :D And it's got that odd push/pull zoom design which will be a dust magnet.

Sweet choice! I bet that fisheye lens must be very addictive :) I was considering 70-200mm f/4.0L at first as well, but it seems 200mm is not enough for me when I test it in a local store. I agree that push/pull zoom is kinda odd.

yeah it all depends on your usage, my 70-200 F4L I barely ever use, I should have just saved for the 2.8

I take back what i said about prices being equal. I did some more research and other brands do have some big disparity in prices. Much cheaper to buy from the US even with shipping and any taxes that customs may put on it.

I'm looking at a battery grip for my k10d and even with $30 shipping plus any fees tacked on by customs and I'm still going to save almost $50 over anywhere I can get it locally.

Go parity between US dollar and Canadian dollar! (well, pretty much anyway).

you look like a thug, antihero.:)

...well, actually its just a minute of PS. ;)

Tilt shift is sweet 👍 it seems to be very useful to fix perspective issue
Anyhow, I have tried B&H again. This time the trasaction went thru smoothly. It should arrive in 1-2 weeks :D One of my local store they sell like $1900+tax, while it is $14xx included shipping at B&H.

Hey all, I'm going back through some of my automotive photos and doing re-edits. I have a friend who told a marketing agent at GM about my automotive work and the guy was interested and wants me to send him a some of my work, so I'm going through and trying to make everything look a little more professional. If things go well I may be able to do some work for GM which will be great for getting some exposure! anyway here is the first change I've made to an old photo, C&C welcome!

the brighter version without the "infinus" logo is the after in case anyone has any doubts

Haha. That is exactly the technique I used on the dog shot here. ;)

Especially that last one. That was the last picture I took yesterday before the battery cried enough. Apart from the resize, they're completely unedited.
