The Photomode Tournament Discussion Thread: Season 6 (2.0)

A lot of these themes seem incredibly specific, to the point they're almost purposely being given to make getting a good-looking shot next to impossible. Then again, I suppose that's the challenge.

Nick - Should we be mentioning which Editing rules our themes should fall under? I notice some people doing it, but I figured they'd be random, regardless.

Theme: Tripods and skis
Explanation: All cars must be on either 2 or 3 wheels. If your car is totally on or off of the ground it's not acceptable.
Cars: Any
Locations: Any
Unique Restritions: No photo travel, obviously.

I forgot to tell, themes will not have any restriction of being either 2.0 or PMC, that means that any theme submitted can be used to either the 2.0 or the PMC side (it's kind of hard to separate them all). It's worth to mention that a quick selection will be made first, since there are some quite impossible themes (standards in Phototravel? :odd:)

Also, I'll be using some past themes from other competitions and the GT4 Tournament, since (and if everything goes well) I will have to have more than 64 themes for all the rounds. :scared:

Theme: Black Ops
Explanation: What a ninja, or Batman, or any covert type person would drive
Cars: Black cars only
Locations: Night Locations
Unique Restritions: Basically black cars at night

Theme: Piquet vs Senna
Explanation: Piquet's pass on Senna in the 1986 Hungarian Grand Prix is the most spectacular pass in racing history. Recreate the feel of the moment with any two cars, one passing the other on the outside of the corner. The more wheel lock, tire smoke and opposite lock the better
Cars: Any
Locations: No phototravel
Unique Restritions: PMC

Theme: Detroit Steel
Explanation: US produced muscle cars from the 60's-70's
Cars: See Restrictions.
Locations: Any
Unique Restritions: No editing, Standard cars only. US produced muscle cars from the 60's-70's

Theme: Contrasts
Explanation: The photo has to show some kind of contrast between two cars, eg. type, shape, color, attitude, you name it :-)
Cars: Any
Locations: No phototravel
Unique Restrictions: Photo must show two cars. (2.0 comp)

Theme: Pimp your ride
Explanation: Make everyones head turn with whatever crazy cool styling you can come up with

the Tournament was great fun.👍 Not much what I have to critize.
The only thing that bothered me a bit is that to less people watched the full view of the Entries.
I had one Entry with only 2 views on my flickr account.:grumpy:
But there is not much we can do about it, maybe remind the people more often to watch the full view before vote.

And what? September/October? Thats sooo long! :guilty:

Congratulations to the winners of course. Outstanding job:tup:
Also to everyone else. It was a lot of fun to compete against all of you (uhm, not all of course :)).

:D

First of all, congratulations to both winners. 👍 👍

The quality of the whole tournament was high and it was great fun - I'm glad I was part of it.

Also, a big thank you to Nicknamealguem for his excellent work and dedication (and patience). :cheers:

Thanks to everyone who made the tournament possible. It was great fun to participate - and it's going to be a long wait until september. Nothing I can complain about - the event is really great the way it is.

Congratulations to the winners!

Mm! Big thanks to Nicknamalguem for running the whole show - great job, it all went off without a hitch :)

Big thanks also to Ceiling_fan who very kindly donated the year of premium to myself (assuming you and Mog already have lifetime subscription! :P), it'll really come in handy, I'm forever empting out my inbox what with running the PS comp and all! *goes off to design shiny new large avatar*

Really enjoyed this tournament, looking forwards to the next :)

This tournament was purely great ! I loved it from the beginning !
But something went extremely bad ! I was eliminated way too early ! :P

To be serious, I think it's good to do 2 tournaments a year, in spring and autumn like Dancing with the Stars

Thank you GTP, and Nick for putting in your effort and time to do this. It was fun and I got to talk to a few new people while doing this. And thank you everyone for the votes.

*side note, I like the shiny red name :P

First of all, congratulations to the winners Jason_B and ceiling_fan as well as to all second and third placed guys.
Also congrats to everyone who made the qualifyer and sent in such high quality entries throughout the whole tournament. Very impressing work by all of you guys.
And also congrats and a big thank you to Nick who did a brilliant job hosting this tournament.

This being the first tournament I entered, I actually have nothing to complain about. But I have to agree with bmxmitch, people should watch the pictures in full size before voting.

But in the end a great event :)

This. A lot of the entries looked completely different in full view, revealing artifacts and bad editing (on the 2.0 side) and yet barely anyone picked up on them as they just couldn't be bothered to view the full size images. I guess we can't really help that though.

That changed my vote on some of the 2.0's

Luis did an incredible job hosting, the ladder being updated regularly was a neat touch, and I'm glad we stuck to the classic layout of open themes only for the qualifier and the final round. I enjoyed it a lot, even if I dropped out at my usually-scheduled round :P.

The only disappointing thing is the next one being so far away!

A hearty thank you to Nick for running it flawlessly, and also to everyone involved for letting it progress without a hitch. The lack of drama made the first GT5 version a huge success, in my eyes 👍

Thanks guys, I really liked the experience of running the tournament. Although it looks like allot of work, it's actually easier, since I can divide the work throughout the week, instead of accumulating all in one day.

Prizes will be held out throughout the month, so if you still didn't receive yours, don't worry about it. :D

As for the next tournament, September/October seemed like the right date for it, since most (me included) have their vacations in July and August and it would probably be a two months with pretty low traffic around. As for new additions and ideas, PMC and 2.0 will have the same size regardless if one gets more entries for the qualifying than the other; Scheduled deadlines would be pretty neat as well (starting and ending rounds and polls in the same weekdays).

Overall, I am really pleased by the lack of drama, but, as used to happen in past tournaments, and although it may sway the poll (or not), I would love to see the return of image reviews in poll.
Also, I am really saddened of not spotting Tangled Web mistake in time for poll. :(

About people not viewing full size, there is little I can do about it. Probably doing a personalized preview that forces people to open full size to see the image would help, but that gives a little more work to get around.

Lastly but not least, and again I want to thank all who entered, because, without you/them, the tournament wouldn't be possible.

Hey guys,

Although a bit late in the announcement, I'm please to announce the second season of the Photomode Tournament, starting it's qualifying round on the 1st of September. This time, a took the liberty of carefully scheduling the tournament as of the following:

  • September, 1st - Qualifying Round;
  • September, 11th - Qualifying Poll;
  • September, 15th - 1st Round;
  • September, 19th - 1st Round Poll;
  • September, 22nd - 2nd Round;
  • September, 26th - 2nd Round Poll;
  • September, 29th - Semi-final Round;
  • October, 3rd - Semi-final Poll;
  • October, 6th - Final/Bronze Round;
  • October, 10th - Final Poll.

Please note that dates may vary in no more than 5 days.

The tournament will have the same format as the first season - a knock-out type of competition - with probably some minor rules alteration and no more than 16 entrants passing through the qualifying round, being it PMC or 2.0.

There may be some prizes, but not as big as the first season, and if anyone wants to sponsor a prize, please, just send me a private message.
