This IS quite a problem. And it's a small example of a much larger issue; an ever growing percentage of people who don't get their news from reputable sources that are screened and verified. They then repost said stories to their own Facebook page or Twitter Feed or blogs or Vlogs, etc. And their statements and posts become viral, often with misinformation.

Yes, this is the major downside that came with social media and it seems be only getting worse. I think the majority of people don't check the sources or verify the information. It's also the short clips that people post that don't show the full story, like some of those videos of police planting bricks. Schools should be teaching people how to "read" social media. I don't know if there's anything being done in that regard.

Flu pandemic... woodstock took place in August. Flu deaths (at that time too) were highly seasonal. Also by all accounts, the current pandemic is significantly worse than that one.

Also... just throwing this out there... maybe we know more now.
I posted it in a "why can't we all just get along" kinda way.

Actually open your mind and think about what the post is getting at.

Hang on...

So you were thinking that, and then he posted something you were thinking, and you're... unhappy about that? When that happens you just hit "like" on his post and giggle and move on. Right?

Read the thread OP, as it makes clear that discussion is encouraged. If you want to avoid discussion as a result of your posting, avoid posting. This is by no means an assertion that you shouldn't post, mind, rather that you should maybe not get pissy over your postings eliciting a response.

I'd love a cookie, though. Just not oatmeal-raisin or snickerdoodle because I'm not too fond of cinnamon.

Also...Vietnam? There certainly wasn't any protest or civil unrest over that. Nope.

Now say that to yourself again a few times and re-read the meme. We both know about Woodstock, at least I hope you do.
Look at everything with an open mind and try to look at the meme in a different way.

I was gonna post that next year Alan Parrish will have spent as long out of Jumanji as he did in it, but then he and Sarah both go back to 1969 at the end so it's actually double the time, which (assuming they're still alive in the Jumanji universe) gives them 92 year-old brains with 66 year-old bodies. :D

Don't leave us guessing. What are you trying to say?

It doesn't reference Vietnam. You mentioned Vietnam in a subsequent response.

Yes, I know about Woodstock.

I know it was a mess. I know there was one portapotty for something like every 800 of the people in attendance and they weren't looked after very well.

I know traffic kept artists from arriving on time; it was so bad that Richie Havens, who was supposed to be the fifth performer, ended up being first and was stretched out to almost two hours, twice as long as his set was intended to be. Jimi Hendrix closed out the festival with a set that was mere minutes longer.

I know that there was significant anti-Vietnam sentiment at the festival, with attendees and artists alike protesting the war.

I know that despite the chaos and the rampant--even unintentional--drug consumption, there were only two deaths--one of which was, horrifically, a 17-year-old who was in a sleeping bag as he was run over by a tractor--though Pete Townshend of The Who could have very easily killed Abbie Hoffman who got on the stage to...guess what...protest against Vietnam. Pete, annoyed by the disturbance, hit Hoffman in the head with his guitar.

I know that five of the artists who performed at the festival ended up dying at the age of 27--Jimi Hendrix of The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Janis Joplin of Big Brother and the Holding Company (yeah, look at pictures of Janis and just think that she was only 27), Ron McKernan of The Grateful Dead, Alan Wilson of Canned Heat (just weeks after the event, even), and Gary Thain of The Keef Hartley Band.

[Edit: I almost forgot to mention that Big Brother and the Holding Company performed twice because their manager didn't want them filmed initially, and they were able to haggle for a second go.]

I'm big into music and music history, so yeah, I'm familiar with Woodstock.

Different from what? It's trying to diminish recent events by citing events of the past. It's even spelled out at the bottom.

Since this is another quote from the anti-science blog of his chum Tony Heller, you forgot:

We believe the polar ice caps are melting... oh wait

This guy definitely has a detailed background (as you mentioned), but the amount of passive aggressiveness here is off the charts for narcissism. Wow.

Tony Heller
Your computer/game consoles work, partly due to my efforts. By contrast, climate science doesn’t work, because it is done largely by dishonest, incompetent hacks who don’t follow or even understand any legitimate methodology.

Not much I can add here but this seems appropriate:

Wow...just...wow...

I always thought that version of The Star Spangled Banner was a protest against the Vietnam war. There are loads of glissandos that sound like simulations of bombs being dropped. If I remember rightly, Jimi used his left (strumming) hand to reach across and do the slide along the neck. It's probably more than 20 years since I've seen it though.
