"I am certainly not an advocate for frequent and untried changes in laws and constitutions. I think moderate imperfections had better be borne with; because, when once known, we accomodate ourselves to them and find practical means of correcting their ill effects. But I know also that laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths disclosed and manners and opinions change with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also and keep pace with the times." --Thomas Jefferson to Samuel Kercheval, 1816. One of the darkest one-liners I know:

How did you sleep?
Like god during the Holocaust.

Nah. God was like 3-5 out of the 50 solutions Fox News presented to preventing another school shooting. They're good.
I thought about that shortly after I made the post. Sad that it is absolutely the truth.

This SORT of counts as Political (more geographical):

Reminds me of a book my Dad has by legendary Scottish comedian Billy Connolly from 1983 called 'Gullible's Travels'. Each chapter was about a different country, and he wrote a chapter on South Africa, which was operating under apartheid at the time. After a few sentences, he said the rest of the chapter would be dedicated to listing the positive achievements of apartheid, only for the next several pages to be left blank.

Billy has one of my all-time favorite television one-liners, and it fits here.

"Hypocrisy is the Vaseline of political intercourse."

Edit: I can't believe I found it! The bit it's a part of is longer than I remember (this is ****ing 30 years ago), but I think that part still counts as a one-liner.

I'm not familiar with the show but I take it the character isn't intended as a political role model? Staunch NRA type?
Ron's libertarian right. The original line was that the uncle does yoga, though.
