The positive

Yeah, mostly. CE is canceled as well as the standards from best buy and gamestop. And yeah, I'm trying to keep out of the GT5 section, not much reason to be here other than help out those who aren't being helped.

Come on dude, it's going to be a great game, so what if it's similar to GT4... wasn't that a great game also?

Like a lot of people, I am somewhat disappointed with the car list, track list, damage, etc. However, I am still extremely excited about GT5 and I want to discuss the positive aspects of the game and the features that will ultimately make this game very enjoyable and addicting.

1. Online. PD has given GT5 a vast and diverse online environment from what I understand. That means unlimited playability just like a Call of Duty title for example.

2. Diverse cars and tracks. Sure there could be more modern cars and historically significant cars, but we still have a ton to choose from. There are some blatant omissions from the track list as well, but there is plenty to enjoy and there is a good mix of real world tracks, original tracks, city tracks, etc.

3. Graphics. 1080p at 60 frames per second. Impressive and pure car porn when you factor in the photo mode.

4. Improved sounds. Every video of the full retail version of GT5 reiterates what Kaz said about improving car sounds for the final game. This is a huge part of the overall immersion and enjoyment of the game.

5. Weather and time transitions. Even if it on selected tracks only, it will be badass and fun as hell to drive at night and/or during different weather conditions.

6. Track maker. This is huge even if it is limited in scope. The pre-determined locations look varied and beautiful. We can also choose the time of day and possibly weather (I don't remember if that is confirmed) on these tracks. Unlimited variation and creativity.

7. 3d, head tracking, etc. Most of us probably won't use these features, but it is cool that they are being impememted.

8. Customization. We can paint our cars, paint the wheels, put racing modifications on, etc. This is huge. Sure we don't have a livery editor, but who really needs that anyways? I can put my signature black wheels (of any style I choose) on my cars and paint them hot purple if I so choose. Good times!

9. Improved physics. All new and improved engine (even for the million, ok, 800 or so standard cars). Even if there is no cockpit view for the standards, they will feel brand new.

That's all I got right now as I am 3 drinks deep, but maybe you guys can add to this list and elaborate on it. Either way, I have been negative about certain aspects of GT5, but ultimately, I am very excited and I know that GT5 will be $60 very well spent.

I pick number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9. 👍

The graphics look great, Sound is much improved, can't wait to try the new physics and online play. Looking forward to trying the new tracks in the 67 Cougar. Yeah it is a standard but not often I get a game with an old Cougar so I plan to drive the wheels off it :)

Yeah, I still play it and playing GT5 will feel like I still am, a bit. Good thing GT5 is only costing me $40.

Honestly if they would have simply updated the graphics and added an online mode to GT4 for the PS3 I would have been all over it.

Having not played any GT game before, I had so much fun with the Time Trial, that I would've paid 50 euros for it alone.

Considering that, to think about the full GT5 makes me feel flabbergasted.. way too good to be true. I honestly have huge gratitude towards PD for making this game, and even with the delay debacle, I respect mr Yamauchi's behaviour, he seems sincere in his apologies and frustration. I certainly can understand his strive for perfectionism and quality. I'm getting the Signature Edition for 180 euros, and I suspect even that is a huge bargain for the product and entertainment I'll get for the money.

Also, GT5 has style like no other video game I've ever seen. I always laugh when violent games (ie. most video games) are called "mature", because of the violence presumably. That is just ridiculous.

If there ever was a game for more sophisticated sensibilities, it is GT5. Being an amateur photographer, I especially appreciate the light in GT5.. it's a huge deal for me, the kind of subtle realism they have achieved with the light in this game, contra the usual cartoony "video game style".

One positive is I managed to hold off buying a PS3 so have a chance to play it at a friend's place first instead of feeling like I wasted $500AUD on a console. :P

I think too many people on this site are losing focus of what made us all love this game to begin with. It's about driving, and being able to do it with a vast number of cars in a realistic atmosphere. It seems like most people are too concerned with features that are mainly just fluff.

Don't get me wrong, I'm excited for all of the new features, but I would buy it regardless.

I'm gonna have fun with that track. It's almost as long as Nurburgring 24h, and LONGER than Nordschleife.

I've played 90% of this game already. It was called GT4.

I don't get it. If you are so upset about what this game has to offer, then don't buy it.

What it boils down to, no matter how great the graphics are, how many features come included, you are still playing the same basic game as every Gran Turismo before.

Tell me about it. Release date has been given as well as the information people wanted and suddenly people go ape crazy at PD. Well, whatever, continually spoiling little brats and eventually they'll want more and more.

Kinda ironic with Black Ops earning so much sales yet that game is a far cry from MW2 and barely added anything to the the previous iteration yet I see no one complaining about it.

GT is just held to godly standards by the idiots who believe that the process of making a game is easy as pie.

A person like me who has worked on games can understand the insane amount of content that they have put into this game and the charging price of 60 dollars feels like a steal.

No doubt man I love the Forza series, but I want someone to tell me whats so different about 2 and 3 they are basically the same game. I still enjoy it in the long run. GT5 has so many things thats going to make it great starting with the most important thing PHYSICS!

I think too many people are forgetting this. The physics are great. What good are awesome cars and tracks if the actual driving part (physics) sucks.

People say PD have been lazy, but being a programing major I can't freaking imagine how long it took PD's coaders to get random dynamic weather in the game along with day to night transition and an accurate deformation system. These things take months to do and still trying to keep within the PS3's capabilities is mind-boggling.

Oh and all this along with oh I don't know, GT5's new physics engine!!!
They created a whole new engine which I can tell you takes a ****load of time!

I wouldn't be surprised to see that Forza 2 and 3 used the same physics engine since it takes so long.

The skidmarks are the best I've seen. And it looks like they'll stay there throughout an entire race. Imagine the drifting sessions.

If PD was able to pull it off by the skidmarks staying on the track, then that is an accomplishment itself for the programmers to have squeezed that much power out only 256mb of memory since that takes a crapload of memory.

The thing I am looking forward to the most is the increased community focus of the game... This is going to "Call of Duty-ize" Gran Turismo. We will be spending a heck of a lot of time online, if not all out racing head to head, but comparing stats, seeing what friends are doing etc. I am so excited for this. Now my skill won't have to be tracked in an Excel spreadsheet (yes, I tracked lap times in GT for PSP lol). Can't wait to rub it in my buddies faces online, and in return see that my buddy in Japan has beat my time in Suzuka by 2 seconds using the Integra type R, then spend the next 4 hours learning how I can beat him, slowly improving with each practice lap. This is Gran Turismo.
