If PD was able to pull it off by the skidmarks staying on the track, then that is an accomplishment itself for the programmers to have squeezed that much power out only 256mb of memory since that takes a crapload of memory.

Only the drift sessions and maybe endurance races...or if you're just messing around. It would essentially be like having a paintbrush for your tires. It's possible to do, but you're right, a LOT of marks would take a butt load of memory to retain. I guess we'll find out in about 10 days.

People say PD have been lazy, but being a programing major I can't freaking imagine how long it took PD's coaders to get random dynamic weather in the game along with day to night transition and an accurate deformation system. These things take months to do and still trying to keep within the PS3's capabilities is mind-boggling.

Oh and all this along with oh I don't know, GT5's new physics engine!!!
They created a whole new engine which I can tell you takes a ****load of time!

Well yes, they had to build a new engine from the ground up way before they can start programming the game, and then while programming, they always find new ways to make the engine even better and run smoother on the PS3 so whoever says PD is lazy is a tard!!!!

I am looking forwards to the cars in GT (even tho there are still NO PORSCHE'S!!!!!) and the ability to drive any car that i want.

I am sure they are going to have DLC, maybe a free Christmas gift DLC pack of cars, and intend on releasing those "missing historic models" in due time. I can't believe there are ANY nay-sayers at this time. LEt's just be happy that THE driving game of this generation is coming out in a matter of days. I can't wait to take the EK Spoon Civic out for a rip around the track!

1. Best gameplay in the genre except Iracing
2. Best graphics in the genre for 20% of the game maybe.
3. Weather just like 20 year old supernintendo titles
4. Night (& day/night cycle) just like rfactor did 3 years ago
5. Lots of cars from Old Muscles to Newest Mercedes Benz products & lots of cars that other games doesnt have them in their dreams (like X1 & SambaBus) koz serious racing titles dream about things like combi vans and horseless carriages
6. Lots of beautiful tracks from city tracks to GT tracks & ... including SOME previously seen in gt series, but not all
7. Course randomiser
8. B-Spec Mode with lots of options for those of you that dont think racing games are about actually racing, but like to talk the talk
9. Impressive Photo Travel Mode just like previous gt and fm3
10. Head Tracking & 3D like any pc title
11. WRC License like that aweful wrc 2010 game
12. Lots of gimiks like AMG School , TopGear , Karting , ...
13. 16 Players matches just like half grid rfactor races
14. Improved Engine Sounds DO NOT PRAISE A DOG FOR LEARNING HOW TO BARK...THIS IS EXPECTED AND HAS BEEN LACKING, THE FACT THAT THEY ARE UP TO PAR IS NOT SOMETHING TO SELL TITLES
15. ITS GT & it has GT STYLE

my spin on it, im very disappointed with what we have after 5 years of production. you can sugarcoat and polish **** all day, but at the end of the day its just shiny **** with some sugar on top of it, pd have really fallen short of what they were expected to deliver after 5 years of using the excuse of "chasing perfection" for taking so ****ing long to do something :(

Maybe you didn't notice but what they were "chasing perfection" for was getting the physics engine of GT5 to be as realistic as possible.

This meant, as I said creating a whole new engine which takes time.

I'd understand this criticism if you have played the game, but you have not so reserve judgement and learn some grammar and capitalization as well.

I didn`t compare GT5 to PC Simulators. GT series have only one competitor on consoles & that game doesnt have most of GT features.
15 years old games had cockpits , weather , night , ... . that means these features in GT5 are useless ?! :dunce::dunce::dunce:
you guys want a super ultra game from PD. if half of GT5 features were in Forza 3 , Forza fans were so happy but you are only crying ...

I must agree that I am very happy with all that I have seen thus far. I also believe they have not revealed everything, as there could be a few surprises, like other tracks and cars. Also this feature that they didn't want to reveal. Looking forward to all of this.

I'm involved (testing) with a team that is creating a physics system which from the sounds of it will be on par (and will likely surpass) with what PD has set out to achieve.

One thing for sure, is that it takes a bucket load of time to work out how to incorporate all the different physical aspects of a car together and get them to work in harmony.

This project has taken probably as long as GT5 from its initial concept with fewer people, but has little content at the moment as we are still ironing out aspects of the physics system (which has been re-written 3 times now).

It sounds interesting, but I would not outrightly say that what this team is doing will even be on par with what PD has been doing.

No offence to this group, but PD has had at least 15 years of experience working with GT along with the experience that Kazunori has under his belt as a racing driver as well.

If this group is as skilled as you say they are then I'm also thinking that their employers are the likes of car companies like BMW, Lexus, Volkswagen, Mercedez, etc.

Just registered on here and this is my first post so firstly a big hello to all fellow GT fans! Decided to post because I am staggered at waves of negativity that seems to be flowing through here!

So in summary we are getting:-

Re-engineered tracks completely in HD in stunning detail
200+ cars rendered in exquisite detail
Improved physics engine
Real time weather effects
Damage modeling
16 player online racing
User community features
Top Gear test track ++++kudos to PD for including this!

There you have a car nuts toolbox which will provide endless hours of fun. This will be the most comprehensive driving sim available on any console. It will be the only driving sim on a console that you can use decent driving wheels on.

Also remember that this is only the beginning! I am sure there will be plenty of DLC to freshen things up and further enhance for years to come. With GT5 what you are getting is the base set of toys with a great selection of things to play with. Things will continue to build on that. I don't want it "all" right now it will be great to have many surprises over the forthcoming months/years ahead.

So let's get things in perspective here this is going to be a car game for car nuts like no other. Nothing on *any* console is going to be as anal as this in it's detail and execution.

So let us just relax a bit, get out wheels out and get ready to start our virtual engines!

Not long to go now....

EDIT. Flippin' iPad keyboard.... corrected typos...

They have been approached by a F1 team, a V8 Supercar Team, a road safety organisation, a high profile Australian race track and a mining company with inquiries about the scope of their software for training purposes.

In terms of simulation of a physics system this will be at the very least on par with GT5's model.

Well, I just hope the main dealers have the vast amount of models to purchase. I just don't want to see 830 cars only being selled as "used".

Assuming the main dealers will have most of the cars for us, then the only thing I'll be disappointed with GT5 is the quantity of tracks. I always thought that variations and reverses are some kind of "excuse" developers use to say "we have *Y* amount of tracks", when in fact they have *X* as the total amount. I also don't know if the YouTube upload directly from GT5 is confirmed.

Other than these three issues (quantity of tracks, quantity of cars on the main dealers, if confirmed to be only 220 cars out of 1031, and YouTube direct replay upload), I think GT5 will simply blow our minds. I'm excited with every single car in the game, even the overly criticized Samba (Hippie) Bus (which I'm looking forward to drive, remembering the childhood when I got to drive it for awhile... I even got to drive a heavy truck once as a kid :) ). The rest of the features are ++++++++++, quite simply. To be honest, just better graphics, this list of cars, and more tracks would've been enough. But day/night/weather, WOW !!! I never really care for on-line with any other games, but with GT5, we'll see. I just hope the on-line feature hasn't shortened the lifespan of the career mode. I mean, just hoping it is as long as it always has been.

For GT6:
1- It has to come for PS3. Some people wish it for PS4, but that would take another decade to accomplish, and I don't want that happening again, or at least not before GT7;
2- Basically the same car list, with more 200 or 300 brand new inclusions, it'll be good enough, but specially good enough (for me) if they concentrate on Europe, as I prefer European cars. For me, NA cars are trash, and JPN cars are excelent, just don't need 137 Nissan cars in one system when we could have more European ones, such as the Ferrari F50 and others (even other VWs, Peugeots, Renaults, etc...). My copy is always the NTSC one, but I do want European and Japanese stuff more than anything;
3- TRACKS !!! This department has to improve A LOOOOOOTTT !!! Quantity, tracks on top of tracks and then some !!!! (Also focusing on Europe, because I do hate the Forza3 track choice. Americanism again...). Tracks such as Road Atlanta and Road America means nothing to me. F-1, on the other hand, is famous world-wide, so why not include basically all the tracks which made and are part of its history !?!? (I mean, Paul Ricard, Magny Cours, Interlagos, Montreal, Adelaide, Jerez, Spa-Francorchamps, to name a few that should already have made their way into a GT game...). So it would be a great feeling to drive any kind of cars (open-wheels, stocks, karts, etc...) on tracks where Senna, Prost, Mansell and others drove :)

As for the rest (improved and/or added features, such as a livery editor which I don't really care), if they come, good, if they don't, then GT6 will be the pinnacle of racing games either way. It just has to achieve my "1,2,3" list (above) and it'll be platinum. GT5 is gold, GT6 has to be platinum, hehe :)

Oh, and I'm not a fan of bikes, but PD has the Midas touch in every single thing they make, so I think Tourist Trophy has to come back again too, but this time around, as a full-fledged PS3 product, with epic bikes from the present and past, and maybe some crazy and interesting creations (like the X1 for GT5) portraiting the future of motorbikes. But PD has to have a separate team for this, otherwise, GTs will be delayed too much.

And this time, on GT5, go-karts, which I really love, being an ex-driver myself :) Thanks Kaz and PD for this !!! Hopefully, go-karts championship will get even more depth in GT6. Maybe licenses for Eurokart and World Championship. :)

Cheers everyone !!!

+1! 👍

Is weather definately dynamic? (i.e. conditions changing during a race) From what I've seen it looks like it is fixed and chosen at the start?

I think there are plenty of positives for GT5, as well as a few negatives, but if you already have a PS3 then surely its a no brainer? Question for me however is is it worth the cost of entry? (I need a PS3 and a new wheel having been using a 360 with an MS wheel up to now for Forza). That cost alone means that I won't be in day one (with the ski season coming up I need my pennies!) but hopefully in the new year they may be some deals that let me join the fun!

All in all a huge amount of positives, my main criticism would just be the inconsistency. I would rather have had less content set at an even level, but maybe thats just me!

I am really disappointed and surprised with this community. OF COURSE NOT EVERYONE was going to be satisfied. We already knew 200 cars and 20 locations and we got MORE THAN THAT. This complaining is so bad specially since we dont know the full features of the game...
we dont even know if it has a livery editor and we have not seen rallying with co driver or anything. Nobody here has actually played the ****ing game and you're complaining.
I For one don't give a rat's ass about anything you guys are complaining about, i got what i expected from this GT game as far as i know and i know that GT6 will add more to it. You can keep complaining about this game but nothing is going to change.
True GT fans should care about how good of a simulator the game is not if it has a premium Bugatti in it.
Now stop with the ":nervous:" because it's ****ing depressing.

/rant.

I don't care how you spin it (op), GT5 is a disappointment.

You haven't even touched it.

Considering the level of detail in the tracks I think 27 is a pretty damn good number. The people who were expecting 70 entirely unique courses were crazy, imo.

Too many people complaining, and still they haven't even played the game!

to My List

• Dynamic weather, only on few tracks, but when you think oh crap.. no Dynamic weather on Autumn Ring, London, Côte d’Azur and on other tracks, do you real race 24h on them!? No More need to said

• Car list is awesome, Maybe lagging some new cars, but like PD said all premium cars were made too accurate thats why it took so long.

• track list, enough for me, 29 tracks!

• driving Events, about 250! I don't know how many there was in GT4 but 250 will do just fine!

• The Smoke! Can't wait to drift in GT5!

• Engine Sounds, what i have heard Bmw Z4 M and M5, Omg the Straight 6 and V10!

• Car Engine tuning and body Modifying, from stage 1 to 4 👍, i really hope you can turbocharge a Bmw, in GT4 you couldn't.

• what i'm really looking is did PD fixed the launch problem, fastest way to launch was full rev and not the perfect way - no spin at all.

Overal score i would give 9.5/10 based on track and car list + youtube videos

27 isn't that bad of a number when you add in the weather effects for the track. To be honest, I think the rest will be made up in the Track Editor. Which, I know everyone thinks of as a gimmick. I think it'll see tons of use when it comes to online racing. The idea of having randomized series, or point-to-point races will be the major draw to it.

People are disappointed with the car list and they are so god damn stubborn that they call everything else in the game a gimmick. How the hell is a random track generator a gimmick? I thought this community was far more mature than this.

I'm new to the Gran Turismo series, I'm not a die-hard fan but I don't think that's any bad thing. I was looking forward to having my first taste of Gran Turismo with the fifth installment, but I have to admit that the disappointment of seasoned Gran Turismo players has made me wonder whether I should be buying it, especially when people seem to dismiss this game and start the wait for GT6 already.

Being new to the series, I'll be taking everything I see in GT5 as being completely new, since I've never played GT4. I'm also not sure I'll be that bothered by the Standards being the Standards, since there are a few choice Standard cars I'm looking forward to driving that despite their lower..........status within the game, are more important to me than a lot of the Premiums.

Even without being a GT die-hard fan, I was surprised by the amount of variants of the same Japanese cars and would have preferred a maximum of two variants of any given car. Having said that and since I don't think I'm going to mind playing the Standards, if I ignore the S2000s and the Skylines, there is more variety there than other games I've played.

Speaking about the positives, rather than the already observed negatives when it comes to tracks (or the lack, thereof), we have the Top Gear test track to set lap times in any of the cars we own in the game. Although you can't copy the "Star In A Reasonably Priced Car", you can race the track in cars that have been tested on the track to see if you can be faster than the Stig, which I think is cool.

If you look closer too, you can also copy Top Gear at the Nürburgring with the Jaguar S-Type, which again, although a Standard, won't stop me trying to beat Clarkson's time.

I'm also looking forward to the online play and this comes from a Single Player Gamer. I like the sound of the private lounges online, where just me and my friends can meet up and race whenever we want. I also like that, if I've understood right, we'll have the option to drive on any of the tracks and their variations on our own without the pressure of racing. That is as close to open world free-roam as you're going to get in Gran Turismo and again, that's something I'm looking forward to.

I do understand, though, why some people are disappointed. I'm not a GT die-hard fan but even I'm disappointed in some of the aspects of the game, but I'm also hoping that GT5 will be a good game nonetheless and that my money will be well spent and that actually, this thread does highlight the positives of the game. I don't think it's sugar-coating the bad points of the game to highlight the good points.

That's my opinion anyway. Hopefully I haven't inadvertantly said anything too contraversial, lol

I will be very content with GT5 make no mistake, but this will be the last time I play their silly game. If what they say is true, we will see little to no DLC for GT5, and GT6 will come along and essentially be what GT5 should have been.

While Forza may not be as polished of feature-packed (yet), it sure as hell doesn't keep you waiting 5 years between releases, and you get plenty of worthwhile DLC to keep things fresh.

People complain about how disappointed they are that not all tracks have weather/ day night cycle, and not having all premium cars should know that Kaz, being the perfectionist he is, is probably even more disappointed that he could not include them in this game.

For many people those things are gimmicks. For the past couple of years I've been on this forum people ALWAYS talk about how GT5 "is about the cars". Talk about how good the physics are in PC sims, "but its about the cars", livery editor in some games like Forza, "but its about the cars", tracks in some other games, "but its about the cars, GT is a "Driving" simulator, its all about the cars".

Of course you should buy it. I would love to tackle this game with no prior experience with a game like it (I'm including Forza in here as well as the previous GTs).

I think some seasoned GT fans were expecting more new content (tracks and cars), rather than mostly the same old stuff.

I think the big advancement will be in the feel of the game; the handling, the community features and the improved engine sounds.

I see GT5 as having laid a great foundation for the future of the GT series and for the asking price, it sounds like a brilliant game.

After getting over my initial disappointment with the car list, I know I will still love GT5.

The main positives for me are:

Graphics
Day/Night
Weather
License tests
Ferrari, Lamborghini & Maserati for the first time
Other lovely cars like the Audi TTS and new Fiat 500
Nurburgring in the night and rain (24hr)
Standard cars look better than I thought they would
New racing disciplines
