Its Rene Rast again!

This is a short Video of the Oreca 03 Lmp2 in Le Mans. I cut off all the long straights to make the video a bit shorter

Yesterday my fastest laptime in real life was 3.40.170 and one day later I tried the same car in Project Cars and did a 3.40.110. For me this is the best preparation for the 24h race as the car feels almost like the real Lmp2.

FLX says: God, that Oreca is a twitchy mother... I cant imagine manhandling that thing around the track for hours without dying a fiery death!

Good lord, the way he approaches the Porsche curves and the Ford chicanes, I'd have crapped my pants in real life if I were a passenger.

Fantastic video!

^ Lmp2 slicks simulating what the real thing has. :) Whether soft, med of hard, don't know. (default tyre is medium)

There's no generic R1,2,3 etc. bull bull, like in GT.

What does the "bull, bull" part mean:confused: So you mean that each car has it's own set of tires? By the way, how many tire options are there for each car and does each car have the same number of options?

I wonder how SMS and the other studios manage to get the lap times right like in real life. I mean, Rene has done almost the same lap time in real life as in the game. If that is not an proof of accuracy I dont know further.

I suspect having Nic Hamilton, Oli Webb and the Stig involved in this is more than just window dressing. I nominate Rene Rast to join the team, if not for PCars1, then PCars 2!

And that would be a lie, wouldn't it?

But yeah, things will still go forwards for sure. :)
How is it a lie, I'm not following? Rene is obviously talking about the feel of the wheel and the driver inputs, surely this can come close to mimicking a real car?

I really like all this talk that's going on about PCARS. Looks like it's poised to leave FM in the dust. Is that even it's real competition I might wonder?

It means nonsense, basically. :) (by GT I meant Gran Turismo, in case that was misunderstood)

Each racing car has the type of tyre and number of compounds available that they have IRL, in general.
For road cars they have the tyres that they normally come from the factory with. Some exceptions may come where a road car has multiple options.

just meant the 'exactly' part, which should be obvious and applies to every sim.

Games like FM or for a part GT should not even be mentioned in the same sentence with sims like Assetto corsa (did not played project cars so I can't judge it). It is a pleasure and a joy to drive a car in AC. I never had so much fun in any sim in my life like I had with Assetto corsa and the zonda and some other cars too.

Here's an onboard video from test day for a comparison:

Seems like the car in pCars is very slippery in comparison.

Yeah real life is very smooth, PCars he has to correct constantly...But isnt that what the SIM community want? They always seem to think that harder means more realistic.

Hopefully Simbin see this video.

I think it has much to do with a couple of things. First is, if Rene took 5 seconds off his lap he'd be much smoother. He's going balls to the wall in the game to set fastest lap, whereas in a test session like in your video, he's not at the limit of the car.

Second is, I think it's easier in many ways, especially for a real race driver at that level, to be smooth in a real car. You have much more sensory input to let you know what's going on with the car. I raced karts for several years at a national level and I and all the top drivers, could run the same laps, over and over within a couple of tenths, right at the limit, and hit the same marks on the track each and every time. Not the same as LMP cars for sure, but the same principle.

You have a much better idea of what's going on because you can feel it, an advantage you don't have with the game, so turning the wheel an extra 5 degrees will make the car overcorrect in a corner when your speed slows enough that the front tires grab. That's not a mistake you make in real life at that level.

"I can't wait for this title, Project Cars is going to give everything else on the market a run for it's money...The physics feel really good, you can really tell what the car is doing"

Harder definitely isn't more realistic. Remember how retarded Shift 2 used to get every now and then?

After Jason lap who pushed the car over the edge I to have say:
Beautiful car, beautiful physics engine ,beautiful engine sounds.
I had doubts about physics, but now all doubts disappeared.
PCars is definitely high class simulation.
Well done Slightly Mad Studios 👍

Shame on you Gran Turismo!

Mr. Oversteer likes:sly: The BAC Mono sure looks like it's going to be a lot of fun on the twisty tracks.

Uhh... I was watching vids of PCARS on youtube today. I don't know how early or recent the build was, but one was a Ferrari F1 car lapping The Ring, and the other one was a RUF RGT8 at Brands Hatch in a full grid race.

This caught my attention: the engine sounds... they were horrendous! They sounded noticeably synthesized..and just like GT there was no engine friction or inertia when upshifting or downshifting.

Then there was another vid of an eve race at The Ring with an SLS AMG. The engine sounded horrible. Distorted and obnoxiously loud.

Are my ears playing tricks on me?? Or is it just bad youtube quality. I know those sounds can't be too far off from the actual game. Even a vid of a P1 time trial wasn't very imrpressive.

I think Forza still reigns supreme when it comes to sounds. Probably physics too, don't know for sure.

What say?

Ironically the vids of Rene driving that are posted here sound topnotch.

Dude, you had me going until the part about Forza sound and physics. Now I can't tell if serious or not. I'm not a member but I'd take the vids of Rene as representative of recent build quality and I agree, they are topnotch. The game is in development, you can see all kinds of wonky things on Youtube from PCars because they were made before cars/tracks/sound/physics etc. were finalized for some cars and/or tracks.

Forza physics is still simcade.

Not all the sounds are finalized, some are just placeholders.

Take a look at this video, it should give you an Idea of what cars would sound like by the time the game's done. All the cars in this video have the audio 80% or higher complete.
