The RUF thread.

RUF is useless anyway. They're Porsche without the balance and finesse, and more importantly, without the Carrera GT and 918 Spyder. I remember them from older GT games: understeer everywhere.
Must be GT's lack of correct modeling or physics; the real cars are very tail happy.

To me it seemed like an improperly set up AWD system, maybe too much power to the front. But they just didn't turn, it was astounding.

What? The RUFs were a damn handful in GT4! Tail happy to the extreme, even in that license test with the RUF, you had to do left foot braking to get it stable under brakes...

RUF is an automaker on its own. They use Porsche chassis, everything else is almost completely different. If you want the Carrera GT and 918 Spider, go play NFS. Those aren't the only, or most important Porsches in the world.

I wouldn't mind if all of RUF was taken out just to put in the RSR. I bought a yellowbird in GT4, tuned it up with the rest of my money, and it wouldn't go around corners. If you just touched the steering a wall would appear out of nowhere and you'd crash.

Thats the fun of 80's porsche turbo's. If you ask me i would trade al those 11 ferrari's in for a yellow bird.

It just takes a lot of skill to drive well, and a wheel helps, along with left foot braking - pretty much needed with rear engined cars

RUF Yellowbird on N1 tyres on the Ring, try it, it's damn hard!

836. RUF CTR2 ‘96 (standard)

This was one of my most fav car in gt4..

and i cant even change rims on it!!! im heartbroken..how isit that i can change rims in gt4, but here gt5 has taking steps backwards

Who cares Ruf's are higher performance Porche's anyways.. Give PD a break, so what they couldn't get Porche yet. They will soon enough, so relax. They've already stated their deep anger to not get them and stated they will work on it till they are in GT. That's all you can expect. If you're angry, blame Porche if anyone..

Can someone please tell me exactly who and what RUF is?
They look like Porsche to me, but whenever I call them tuned Porsche, people jump down my throat and tell me they are their own individual car production company.
In that case, why are they using Porsche chassis and bodies, and why am I wrong to call them a Porsche tuning company?

(I'm certainly not trying to start a fight here. Can someone just please tell me RUF's story! I want to learn!)

As with most things, Wikipedia is your friend: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruf_Automobile

Kinda sucks that we already don't have the Porsche and the RUF is the only car that can make us happy as a replacement for it and yet there are so few RUF and worse all are standard.

I thought they are going to bring at least new models of Porsche/RUF, but NO, we will drive the same that we drove years ago.

Anyway, still looking forward to buy them all, and one day if I make enough money I will buy a Porsche.

As a Porsche owner & someone who's actually driven a Ruf (a 993 Turbo R), I completely disagree. These cars are very special Porsches, yes, we consider them as part of the family.

They are as driveable in daily driving as a normal Porsche & very capable when you want them to.

Gran Turismo did NOT model them right in GT4. To clarify, I meant the handling. The sound too.

Soon? PD won't do anything soon. It's been 6 years since the last game, expecting Porsche to come soon is wrong.

Not your definition of soon. But PD's definition of soon, which could be 2 years from now...Hahaha!

I'm not bothered by the lack of Porsches, RUF's are enough for me. It looks like a Porsche and goes fast, that's all i need.

That said, I was kinda hoping for a premium Yellowbird....

PD/Sony can't license Porsche well not from Porsche. Porsche sold EA an exclusive license way back when that as far as I'm aware didn't feature an expiry date. So any license for Porsche vehicles has to come from EA.

Tuned up a Yellowbird? No wonder you couldnt drive it...
Its like tuning a Type-R, its ALREADY tuned for you...

If stock its still too jumpy for you try the BTR.

The CTR2 is a drastic vehicle, off the bat you might think it handled better than the other RUFs but thats just more understeer masking as stability. This car needs a VCD with 30/70rear distribution. Because its so powerful and has AWD, understeer snaps and becomes oversteer in a split second, you have to know the car to predict the behavior, not to mention smooth braking does alot to prevent the weight transfer from being too dramatic. Accel out of a corner is done very late, but thankfully the 4wd and immense power make up for it when you step on it.

But all Rufs need to be driven well within their limits, their outright power and lightweight will make up for the caution needed in twisting bending sections.

Just try Suzuka's Esses at anything more than 115km\h, and youll find the meaning of REAR engined!

I cant wait to hear the Yellowbirds new sound, still sad its not a Premium, ive always wanted to recreate that infamous Nurb psycho video.

Insane Driving its called.

Ruf is manufacturer of their own. It is as legendary as Porsche itself. Not only they make incredible beasts, but I´ve read they do complete restores on Porsches too. I feel proud that my favorite game has made a space for this "not knowned by most" super car manufacturer, I actually learned about Ruf thanks to GT2, and as many, I thought it was a PD invention XD. Its to bad we´re not seeing new Rufs on GT5, like the new RGT8. Have anyone seen it? Its incredible. Its like a Porsche GT3 with a V8 on it. Interesting concept...

Most say they are a terrible handling cars, I say they are cars that you need to master. Is not like for example an Eclipse ´06 tunned up to 300+ Hp, that car handles horrible and no matter what you change, it will always drive horrible. No, the Rufs are different. My favorite Ruf is the BigTurboRuf ´86. If you tune up that car up to 600+ hp, its still drivable, and it puts the power to the ground like no other 600hp car. I´m glad to say I drive it with no assists whatsoever(like any other car), soft sports tyres and no custumizable suspension. And that baby is maybe the most fun car to drive in GT4. I´ve proven to be faster with a stock BMW M5, but that old porsche feel with the huge turbo lag and sudden loss of control is what makes that car so pure.

Nissan and Honda, to many cars from those two companies. It's embarrassing looking at their car lists and than looking at others...

You would think that PD would have made the JZA80 Supra premium seeing as they went all spaz on the Nissan Skyline.

Also if Kaz wants Porsche so bad and knew he couldn't get them in GT5 why didn't he go back and make some of the RUFs premium?

Owell at least we can drive RUF with the new physics. That makes me happy.

Well, maybe he just wanted to. It's his game, not yours. He can do whatever the hell he wants, and if it doesn't please you, don't get it.
