Race day is here again. Great final practice session after the 500pp club last night with both Cobani and SoKaGT putting in competitive times. I havnt had a chance to view the replays yet, and I am out today, so will try to get the table updated when I get home if there is time. If not, I will see you all tonight in the lobby.

Well what a race. That one had a bit of everything. Some super close laps at the beginning, and for me, it was a race long battle, but that will have to wait until another night. Cant believe thats 2 races where I was on a podium position until the last lap, but again, a story for another night. Awesome racing gents, and a well deserved top three. Enjoy your champagne....

How full are the grids on race day currently? I consider dropping by the last two races if there is room.

Im sure we can fit you in mate. It will be great to have you taking part with us again. 👍👍👍

OK guys, onto last nights race. For me this is probably one of the most exciting races I have had. Managed a super qualifying lap of 2:04.141 to put me second on the grid. When the lights went out, I was beaten into turn 1 by Capt_D, but somehow managed to hook onto him, and thats where I stayed for some super close racing, bumper to bumper at times, and all the while SoKaGT was pulling slowly away. Then as the tyres began to go off, Capt_D started to make a gap on me. As the lap count got into the mid teens, I was aware of Goodwolf closing the gap on me, but the tyres suddenly seemed to find some new grip, and I managed to keep ahead. By lap 19, the grip had gone down to 7 on the rear, and Goodwolf was right with me, so I decided to pit to try and get the undercut. It wasnt until 2 laps later, after re passing Sholesy in the pits, that I was with Goodwolf again. I managed to maintain the same speed and kept the gap constant. Lap 25, and I was slowly catching him, and then suddenly, Goodwolf made a mistake going into Ford Kurve. I managed to get past him, and back into 3rd place. But now the pressure was really on, as Weescotman, now on the faster tyre, was right on Goodwolf. Lap 26, and Weescotman is still behind Goodwolf, and the pressure is really on. Lap 27, and ive got Weescotman behind me now, and the gap is closing fast. Lap 28, and somehow Im still in front, but not by much. Will is right on my bumper, and some defensive driving is required. Going into Bit Kurve, I put my car in just the right place to stop a pass, and manage to get the exit still ahead. Will has slip though, and going through Hatzenbects required putting my car in the right place to stop a pass to my left. It worked, and Will attempted the pass, but was denied by the grass. That was it! It was almost over. With Wills trip to the grass, and only a handful of turns left, I could see the podium, taste the champagne, and smell the grid girls. YEAH!!!!...............NAHHHHH.. Watching Will in my mirror, I missed my braking point for Veedol chicane. The back end kicked out, and I was helpless, as Goodwolf, then Will came past me. I regained my composure, and brought the car home 5th. Amazing racing gents.

Now for the results....

Now its time to park the HC up gents. Some of you will be pleased. I will miss it myself, as its been a rewarding challenge taming this beast, and its given me my highest scores this season. But now we move onto the final car for the final 2 races. The Esprit V8. The tune for this car is based on the GT1/2 enduro Esprit. The power of the car this is based on is 550 BHP in real life @900 kg. We cant make this weight, so the power has been increased to match the power to weight ratio.

I cant believe we are nearly done. Just 4 weeks and 2 races until the end. But what a way to go out. The last 2 tracks have been picked for their significance. Spa, as that is where Sunday Cup started, and Silverstone GP, as this returns us to where we started this championship, and completes the circle.

Fab write up Ade. Just a small point, my fastest lap was in fact 2:04.716 (I was quite proud of that considering my limited running!).

Well my race was really good fun for about 2/3's of it! Having left my quali lap very late, having made errors on my previous attempt, I manage to put a lap in to get 7th on the grid, which I was happy with.

I managed one of my good starts off the line and was up to a handy 4th after the first corner. I left the door wide open for Goodwolf half way around the first lap to drop to 5th. However, To my delight I got my racing head mode on, and managed to keep up with Goodwolf and hang with him for about 8 laps, and make a gap to the cars behind, until I made a couple of mistakes as my tyres started to wear. This allowed scholesy to close up.

For the next 9 laps, I had an awesome battle with scholesy, as the gap widened and shortened and even once he was alongside me on the main straight but I kept ahead for a few more laps. Then, disaster as I made a silly mistake on lap 17,the car seemed to snap away from me and I shot off into the gravel trap. It took me about half a minute to get myself out of the gravel, it couldn't have happened at a worse place! So, I dropped two more places following weescotsman & theewar making their way through on different strategies, and my big off meant I had no chance of fending them off. So I held on and finished a lonely 8th...

I'll be quite happy to leave this rather snappy car behind though! But I guess it was fun trying to tame it!

Just watched some of the replay again. I noticed that I had really heavy tyre wear when compared to most others. This seems to be self inflicted, I can see that I am braking heavier than most of the front runners and by braking so hard I am causing the tyres to overheat. This overheating tyre issue was at the root of most of my woes during the race.

So, I am trying to understand what I am doing wrong, as it seems that I am braking too heavily, but I can't get my head around now it's possible to apply less pressure on the brake (and the brake meter not to read full) and still stop as quickly on the corners...

So, have I got my brake bias set too high on the front as part of the problem? This and a combination of having to retrain myself not to brake so heavily? LSD brake settings have an effect also? Any advice is most appreciated!

My breaking bias for this car is 4/1, so yes if you're going too deep into corners under braking, it could be it.
But even with this setup you can't just step on the brakes and release it instantly, you have to do it progressively both ways and apply the throttle just before you step off. My LSD braking setup is at 16.

What I think you're doing wrong is your downshift time. You're probably downshifting too early and thus going too fast into corners you're braking too hard with not much of effect on slowing the car down properly. This could really ruin your tyres after 20 laps if you're doing it all the time.

Hope this helps to some of you guys. Now you explain to me how did you won at Monza?

My brake bias was 7/3 and I agree with Goodwolf, you need to apply the brake progressively.
On top of which -and this is just my own errant thoughts- I believe that by braking until the meter is ~80-90% full is most effective. Beyond this point the in game ABS is acting so much, you aren't arresting you motion as quickly. In short running with ABS but trying not to activate it, like you would in everyday driving.

Yes thanks for the tips, most helpful and I will try to put them into practice.

I know, perhaps it seems strange to you how I could win at Monza, and on real pace.... But let me try and explain... Monza is a track I already knew, and without the time to practice as much as some people, that came as a real bonus and I could really hit the ground running. Also, I think I gelled far better with the car we were using at that time, or at least got to know it a bit better than the Esprit. But considering the low mileage on the cars, I'm doing "ok"....

I'm still learning my trade with online racing. I have some pace (as Monza showed), but it needs unlocking and I don't usually have the time to do so! Even though I'm a car and racing enthusiast, with a knowledge and understanding of how to drive a car fast in the real world (I own a performance car and have owned many more over the years), this experience does not always seem to translate to the virtual world!

I was keeping pace with you Goodwolf for the first few laps at nurburgring, but it was my inconsistency with overheating the tyres that cost me and caused me to lose time, and it's something I've got to try and work out how to improve my consistency on some tracks.

Belgium is a track I know and enjoy, so I hope I can learn some more about the tyre wear and go OK there. But practice makes perfect, and frustratingly I don't get enough time - but I am still enjoying my racing immensely regardless of where abouts on the grid I am running. :)

Ran the first few laps at Spa in the new car tonight, with Will, Capt_D, Warren and Nomad. Lots of work to be done to get a set up im happy with, but thanks to Capt_D, I now have a base from which to start. Benchmark time was a 2:17.xxx, although I was well off that. First official practice will be on Friday as usual, although I will try to host some more testing sessions tomorrow and Thursday.

At Nurburgring GP/F I qualified third and got a good start, getting into second place after the first corner with Ade a very close third and SoKa leading. For nearly half the race with some great racing I was shadowed by Ade as SoKa showed his pace and pulled further away. Eventually tyre wear played it's part and I managed to get some distance between Ade and myself as the field became strung out. A pit stop for mediums saw me dropping to third behind Dudo, but I was able to reclaim second as he had to pit the very next lap.

Congratulations to SoKa for the win, and well done Dudo for the podium.

Enough waffling, picture time!

Awesome pictures Gary. 👍👍👍👍 Great to see my last lap mishap at Veedol chicane, which cost me a podium, haha.:dunce::banghead:.....Hopefully I will be online tonight to do a few more runs at Spa in the V8, but that all depends on how I am for time, as this afternoon I have to spend four hours in the classroom doing a speed awareness course. This is due to a slight infringement of the UK speed limits a few months ago, and I have been offered this instead of a £100 fine and 3 penalty points. Apparently building fast cars for a living, and spending my leisure time in a racing simulator does not count, pfffffft......:sly:

When you got it through you should have asked for evidence of your crime, if they don't give you this after 2 weeks I think you can contest it and get it then out, as most of the equipment they use isn't calibrated properly and gives false readings. Show them the Sunday Cup thread and a few pics from work, I'm sure the guy will just tell you to be on your way, and have a nice day, lol

Had a good little fend-off battle with Warren at the end, with Paul in the vicinity to add spice (nice few of the pics). Similar situation to Will and Ade maybe. I remembered to save the replay but haven't viewed it yet for fact checking. As with every race it's all a sweaty blur.

Realising from the grid he and Will had gone for the option first, and probably knowing I wouldn't be able to stretch out enough of a lead on the first stint, I knew I would likely see Warren later.:nervous:

Struggling for some of laps on the sports meds (hadn't run on them at all, don't think I have for any race for any length other than our quick practice pit races:dunce:) sure enough Warren appeared on the map. I had overtaken Paul, I think? Undercut/lap?. Was then hoping Paul could hold him up enough for me to get use to or get enough pace out of the SM's to stave him off also until the end. Could I do a Lewis?

This is another thing I've got to work on. Working out when to check the track map or not getting obsessed with it when being the pursuer or pursuee. Smokey and the Bandit reference.

Paul did a good job for me but Warren got him, and I heard the death knell:indiff:. I initially prepared myself for blue flag driving and have to yield to the much faster car, but then was surprised when Warren didn't power pass me straightaway? So I reverted back to my original plan of defensive driving to keep him at bay until the end, if I could. With me on the SM's this did have a bit of the argy bargies about it and I hope Warren was aware of it at the time, all ended well with a drama free pass for Warren. With that and the brilliant battling with Jammy earlier in the race, I'm again a happy camper with completing the race and learning even more from driving with you guys. Nimble but beastly V8 next please?
I can't remember dipping/un dipping my headlights, whhhat a rush!

Another testing session last night threw up some mixed results. Will had issues with Warren and Cobani not being visible, and neither could see Will. We tested on both the normal track, and the weather/time variable version, with the later providing better light and grip, so we will go with the time/weather change variant, and set the weather to off, and time progression to 1. Going to try a few more runs tonight, to try and dial some of the slide out of my car. Benchmarks are still around the 2:16/17 mark, and I am way off this with my current set up, so I want to make a few improvements before tomorrows first official practice.

Tonight will see the first timed runs at Spa. Im still struggling with the car, so tonight will be my chance to see if I can make some improvements. Lobby will be open from 8.30pm. I am also going to leave the room settings on what is recomended to see if this has any effect on Wills problem with seeing Warren and others in the room. If it doesnt work, or causes any other issues, we can open another with the standard quality.

The first official practice session last night saw 10 racers over the course of the evening. This car is going to be hard to master, and Spa certainly is a challenge. Coming into this session, I wasnt happy with the car, but after a few races I began to get a bit of a better feel for it. We were still plagued with visibility issues for Will, who couldnt see everyone in the room., and this also seemed to affect Warrens connection to the room as well. We have tried everything possible to get around this, and I dont know what to suggest next.

Anyway, heres the times from last night, and its Capt_D who is the pace setter. These times are from my replays, and may not reflect times which were set after I left the lobby. Another session will happen tonight, and the lobby will be open from 8.30pm.

Racing hard tyre.
