The singing was telling the story.

And it was telling it far faster than normal dialogue would have without it feeling more awkward and clunky than a couple of the songs did.

And I misread what you said about the Simpsons, yeah, having that much singing in a single episode can be bleh. Ruined an episode of Scrubs for me.

I kinda furthered the story. The first one surely didn't, and a lot of them seemed to already tell us stuff we already knew. And, you're basically saying that they used the songs to shorten the episode from two to one. Because if they had actually taken the time to write out the dialogue, it probably would've been two.

Twi accidentally flipped the cutie marks, she then had to find a way to fix it. Then she realized that making the ponies realize their true destinies all over again, then reuniting them with their true element, would revert their cutie mark. Then she did this, and after realizing it she wrote her own form of magic. After all of this, and all that she'd learned under Celestia, she was realized as a princess and went through the transformation.

Did you walk away for a drink or something after Twi realized the cutie marks were swapped?

I understood that. My point was, why couldn't they have opened the stupid episode with her getting the book and casting the spell instead of moving that lovely, very important scene to a flashback 10 minutes in. As it stands, it REALLY feels like you're come in the middle of a story...and you kinda do. Because there's that lovely scene 10 minutes in that explains what happened prior. That's all I'm saying. Just because they wanted to open with a song doesn't mean they had to move the prologue!

It was a season finale, and an obvious cliffhanger.

And this season was likely planned out long before they decided to make a fourth season, so there really wasn't much to do about it other than work with what they'd already made, and the writers probably had no say in it being a single episode.

Since when they switch to a half-season? What kind of BS is that? two seasons of 26 episodes and then randomly switching to a 13 episode season? Why? That's kinda like if Ford's new Mustang was a rebadged Focus. That'd be rather disappointing, wouldn't it? Is this really the season finale? 'Cause that sucks if it is.

How the hell have you come this far and only just realised season 3 was 13 episodes?

That Ford analogy doesn't make much sense either, at least to me. Since the number of episodes doesn't change the fact that many of them this season have been great anyway, just like many of them in seasons 1 and 2 were. Imagine if they made 26 average episodes in one season and 13 great ones in another. Which would you prefer?

And I've said this a couple of times already, but the likely reason for the shorter season is down to them splitting production between 2 or 3 different shows lately, including the apparent Equestria Girls series out in a few months.

1. The Ford analogy makes since.
2. And no...they've not been nearly as great as the episodes from the first two seasons. They've been a lot more random, yes. But better? Good enough to only do a half season? No. Not anywhere close.

Most of the episode this season have felt disjointed and...let's just compare it to Season 5 of the Simpsons and Season 22. After about Season 5 or 6 the series kinda dropped off. Now, they're not that great. Some are just plan flat confusing. There were a couple of decent episodes like the Pinky Pie one (which gets really annoying after a couple times of seeing it) but are they the quality of say the Gilda episode? Nope.

It's like Hasbro is becoming Fox. FiM is at it's peak (I think it could get MORE popular, but I'm not Hasbro) and now that it's lived out it's usefulness, Hasbro couldn't care less...unless you try to steal their stuff, then they have something to say about it.

Sorry. I'm just a little miffed.

EDIT: I also LOVE how they made a two-part episode out of the stupid pets and the stupid equestrian games BS but didn't bother to make one out of destinies being swapped and Twi becoming an alicorn princess. Yeah awesome priorities Hasbro. So, you just told kids that getting what you want is more important than friends and maturity. Awesome! Especially in a show called "Friendship is Magic" the pet/games episode had NOTHING to do with friendship. (And weren't the two episodes basically the same story?)

EDIT 2: Also, the show is listed on a Ingram's website as working on 91 episodes. You know what that means? It means Season 4 is going to have 26. Which means there's no real reason why Season 3 was 13 unless Hasbro randomly decided to suddenly make a hard left turn in a different direction...or they were just too lazy to do 26. I don't know. It makes no sense why there's only 13 episodes this season. Unless...Hasbro didn't want to "waste" the money on two full seasons and, instead, bought 1 and half. Which is more likely.

That's exactly what I'm saying. But they didn't have a choice in making it in a single episode. That's why this was the better option of the two poor ones.

Its a common story telling technique recently. Have a series of events that leave the audience guessing and then reveal some detail or event that ties it all together.
And the first song tied in with the last to emphasize the change in the tone of the episode.

That's an awful analogy.

And seriously, how are you just finding out about this?

1. Maybe to you it does, but it sounds silly to me. I would have said that you preferred quantity over quality, but somehow you think season 3 was crap for the most part.

2. I can safely say that 1 episode was below average, 2 suffered due to a questionable villain and were otherwise decent, another was fun yet ultimately flawed at the very end and the Wonderbolts episode had room for improvement. The other 8 were good or great though, and it's easy to pick out the less decent episodes in a shorter season even when every season has had ups and downs.

Most of the episode this season have felt disjointed and...let's just compare it to Season 5 of the Simpsons and Season 22. After about Season 5 or 6 the series kinda dropped off. I liked both the Gilda and TMPP episodes (mostly the latter), although I get tired of people questioning some of the events in TMPP. The only one that felt really disjointed was the finale, and the reasons for it are clear.

It's like Hasboro is becoming Fox. FiM is at it's peak (I think it could get MORE popular, but I'm not Hasboro) and now that it's lived out it's usefullness, Hasboro couldn't care less...unless you try to steal their stuff, then they have something to say about it.

I still don't quite understand the pessimism some people are displaying after season 3. I've seen enough good moments in it to say that I look forward to season 4 even after the disappointing finale. I am wary of how they'll continue after the coronation too, but I'd be happy if they made episodes that were as good as the majority of those in season 3.

I also LOVE how they made a two-part episode out of the stupid pets and the stupid equestrian games BS but didn't bother to make one out of destinies being swapped and Twi becoming an alicorn princess. Yeah, I'm still not seeing why anyone would have legitimate a problem with those 2 episodes being connected that way.

And Twilight didn't exactly ask for it. She didn't even know she was going to become a princess until she fixed the problem she caused. The fact that she changed physically is both a reason to sell new merch and to represent the changes that those of the target demographic go through at that time of their lives.

Looks like someone didn't care to read the end of my previous post, so let me try this one more time:

I've said this a couple of times already, but the likely reason for the shorter season is down to them splitting production between 2 or 3 different shows lately, including the apparent Equestria Girls series out in a few months.

That's the most likely reason, and it most certainly was not down to laziness if they're working on multiple series'. Sure, they probably sacrificed 13 FiM episodes for 13 Equestria Girls episodes (not yet confirmed), and apparently Littlest Pet Shop took up some of the production time as well from what I've heard.

Either way, this decision was made over a year ago. They probably had a different idea initially for season 3 before any final deal was made for a 4th season, since it felt like this was going to be the very end when the Coronation aired.

No, not really.

One is a $30, 000 vehicle, the other is a TV show that can be watched as many times as you like for free.

The Gilda episode wasn't even that great...

We got an awesome character from it, but the episode itself wasn't high on my list even just counting Season 1.

Did you actually watch any of those episodes? Including the finale?

Seriously, the big giant in your face theme of the finale was that she couldn't have done any of that without the help of her friend. She said so outright a few times IIRC. And the other two that tied in had their own lessons. Very few of the lessons are as straight forward as "friends are great."

There is a reason. Greg just posted it above you.

Anyways, I'm done with this series. It's slowly going the way of Simpson's and CSI. (boring, not funny, and stupid) BTW, the only way for the "too much work" excuse to make sense is if Season 4 were 13 episodes, too. But it's not. It's going to be 26. So...I still think it had more to do with money than work load. Saying it's because of the work load kinda makes it sound like one of those shows won't be coming back for a new season.

Even if they bring Gilda back, I won't watch it 'cause she'll probably completely different and not the same voice actor...at least I hope not.

Yep, with people at each other's throats and everyone getting upset at the show. I spend all of my time enjoying the accomplishments and merits of the show, and basking in the light of the fandom.

It's hard to discuss such things when some people are constantly whining about season 3 apparently being completely terrible, without any real reasons given either.

I'm not one of the fans that have condemned the next season to fail already, but if that's how they feel right now then fair enough. Once the S3 finale is a few months behind us and things settle down a bit (unless Hasbro instigate more drama), maybe people's views might change. I know the finale was enough to make people lose hope, but it's not the end yet.

We all know where we stand on this matter. So there really isn't any need to carry one discussing what's already been discussed.

I think it's obvious that we should move onto Twilight cat:

Just watched the last episode of season three!

And... I really liked it!

I liked that there was a lot of songs.

This is my favorite. Lots of effects, sounds very serious and I wish it was longer.

I think this episode was the saddest. So many tears. And not just sad tears, but happy too. (A.K.A liquid pride.)

It felt like it was the final episode of the entire series, but like Princess Twilight, I believe that everything will be just fine!

Ah, I'll miss the adorkable Twilight Sparkle... *sniff* they grow up so fast.

P.S. Now we know what was that black book with swirling stars Luna showed in the end of the first episode - Star Swirl's book of spells!

P.P.S. Dashy now has a new flying buddy. :3

Can't wait for season 4!

Now that I finally have an excuse to post Bryan Adams in this thread I can say this:

Bryan Adams is what I imagine Braeburns singing voice to be. And this is glorious.

Also, this is awesome:

I shall also help bring this thread back to normal.

So, I help manage a MineCraft server and have made it well known there that I am a Brony. I got an in-game mail from a player named "Tallish" in the server with a link to an image, assuming it was probably a screenshot of some evil doing that needed my attention, it was this:

14wd0f5.jpg

It was a drawing of my OC "Snow Flurry" (Which I may need to revise the name). Needless to say, I cracked a huge smile and shed liquid pride.

The player used the pony statue I built on one of my properties in the server, of which I based on my "Mine Little Pony" skin:

As for the statue:

It is my first real fan art of anything that I've created. Just so much happiness it brings me. It's also great to have a reference outside of the pixelation of MineCraft.
