because I don't like how the show has changed to become "The Twilight Show (With Friends)"
Um... That's how the damn series started off as. The 1st season was ALL about Twilight (with friends)

Anyway, I wished Episode 13 was an 40 minute special. They could of made the whole Alicorn business more accepting that way. It just seemed rushed to me.

PS. Pinkie Pie was the best part in the episode. ALICORN PARTY!!!

Outside of the first two episodes, no it wasn't. Her actions in half the episodes of the first season were nothing more than to deliver the letter at the end, basically a framing device applied after the story was finished, which is entirely different from the show actively revolving around her. So while I suppose that you are technically correct, it's ultimately irrelevant.

Especially as they had built up to the Equestria games for the previous two episodes. Crammed a lot in in the 21 minutes.

I'm sorry to hear that, Logan.

Well, just know that if ever you decide to return, you'll always be welcome here. :)

Farewell!

EDIT: Oh look, what a lovely little poster:

LOVELY SLOGAN TOO

Before I was on the fence about the entire corn (wing) situation. Now I'm hanging off the fence with my pinky finger that it's a good thing... It bloody hurts, so please punch me or something so that I fall down.

All I know, is that the episode was really good. The visuals, the music (that sad song about 5 minutes in was just perfect), the plot... Ehehehehehee. No not in that way you dirty colts and stallions. Hahaa, Twilight just exploded! Wait, so is she in the transformation, or some sort of place outside of in show existence, or what? And when Celestia starting singing I gasped, my mouth dropped open in amazement and I simply pointed at the screen for the entire song... Just like I pointed at Pinkameena being... Angry. And then when Twilight's transformation started... All the greatness... Ended really. And the only problem I'm having with the show now, is that whenever I see Twilight as an alicorn I just start laughing. I started snickering when Twi's cutie mark just exploded into the sky... And then laughed stupidly when she showed up as an alicorn. But then all my not ERMAHGERDERSERM (oh my god, so awesome) viewing ended... No, not because of Twilight being a Princess, or Twilight being told all that stuff, or Twilight making a speech, or anything to do with Twilight at all... the "Oh my god, so awesome" started again simply because Luna was there... Yeah, that's barely a reason, but still... I was going to have a hissy fit she didn't appear at all in this episode.

But yeah, I guess that is all for this season. And I remember how right I was when I saw those screenshots before season 3 started of Rarity's boutique and Sweet Apple Acres going out of business... I just assumed they were from the finale. :sly:

It's going to be interesting to see how Season 4 turns out with Rarity being the only unicorn in the mane 6, and Twilight being "special."

I don't care. I didn't care after I watched the season premiere and said much the same thing and I certainly don't care now that what I said I didn't want to happen back then has actually happened.

And I'm not waiting until the end of the year to see how far the damage has gone, all the while pissing everyone off with my mere presence in this thread and getting in shouting matches like two weeks ago, because I don't like how the show has changed to become "The Twilight Show (With Friends)" and everyone else has no problem with it. It's better for everyone if I just leave.

Well, if you stick to leaving, then farewell. Just remember that you're always welcome back if you change your mind.

So now that I got a laptop (unfortunately not mine as it still us being fixed), now for my take on this episode:

Started out very odd with song, like some of the episodes have. Then comes Rarity with Rainbow Dash's cutie mark (wat). It sort've looks like another case of solving a problem with Twilight's friends, but it has the same feel as the Discord episode from season 2 (just with no villain). Obviously after causing the mess, She now has to fix it by latching those elements of Harmony on them and getting them to remember their original destinies (feels alot like the Part 2 episode from season 2 again). Admittingly, the part where Twilight wrote the final page in that book and dissappeared made me laugh abit. However, that void was interesting and my heart genuinely raced because I thought "wow, something big is about to happen" and then when Celestia sang and all the flashbacks from all the seasons really just struck me, can definately see where some of you feel like this was more of an ending to a series rather then a season. From that point on, it was obviously the big coronation and the speech and all that. I love though that Twilight still had her student mentality. "Is there a book on how to be a princess?"
That right there tells me Twilight will still be herself.

Overall, I liked it. Great season finale, haven't been so anxious to see a season finale in a long while. In retrospect, Look at all the
things that lead up to this:

- Twilight meeting the others and finding the elements of Harmony
- Twilight breaking the spell put on her friends when Discord got them
- Fending off the changling invasion
- Having Spike take the crystal heart down to defeat Sumbrah and passing "the test"

All happening prior to this. This essentially tells me that this coronation was going to be the end all. Maybe this isn't so much the end of the series so much as the end of this chapter of the series. All it ultimately means is that we now will see a new chapter and this time, we won't see it with Twilight the Sparkle the student but instead with Twilight Sparkle the Princess.

Also, am I the only one that sees a possible refference to the drama in the form of Twilight's line? "Everything will be just fine"

Something tells me the drama wasn't so much one of the mane six so much as it was who was becoming a princess. Regardless, I'm not at all worried. Sure I just came around to the fanbase and haven't been around since the series first start in 2011 but having watched it from the beginning to now, I've had no problems with this.

I'm not a fan of all that singing but I am interested to see what will happen in the next few episodes.

If that's the way you really feel then bye Logan. We'll miss you.
Personally I'm going to wait it out and see what happens in the next few episodes as they're meant to be directly related.

Was I the only one expecting a Villain? Given the significant events (The Sunrise celebration, The Royal wedding), I was convinced some big boss battle was going to occur in order to really push this, but that didn't happen.

Also, found that generator. Playing around now.

BTW, word has it that Starscream is really Jealous right now.

I keep feeling like I'm tuning into the middle of a story. It's really annoying. Last week really WAS the middle of a story. This week feels like I missed an episode.

Okay, this episode could have EASILY been two episodes. And the last half seems like it'd make a great Season Finale. And who ever wrote this episode didn't seem to write much 'cause 90% of it was singing filler. It really felt like two episodes smooshed into one. Really what should've been a great season finale, one hour show ended up being a half hour musical. Ew. They need Lauren to come back.

They just did a Simspon's episode where each act has a completely different story. Doesn't work for the Simpson's, won't work here.

First thought when I saw this scene.
h5D76EED4

Way too many songs, I felt like this was more of a series wrap up than an episode. So in my eye's, it can't be judged as a normal episode. (Because if I did then it would be my least favourite of all time. They could have gotten WAY more with the cutie mark switching than what they did. It felt rushed so that Twilight could have her coronation.

>Singing filler

>Two episodes pushed into one.

Pick one.

And Lauren probably couldn't have done much more with the 22 minutes they were given. They didn't chose to have this condensed in one episode, so I doubt it would have changed much.

Also,
Of all the songs in this the two I liked were the more serious toned Twi one and the Celly one. Other than that they were just a shortcut to get the story told as quickly as possible in 22 minutes. Felt similar to the musical episode of Scrubs...

Not blaming the writers, they really didn't have a choice having to write all of that happening into 22 minutes. I'd have loved to see this as a 3 parter. And I know they said it will be a three parter overall continuing into next season, but this episode alone could've made for 3 awesome episodes rather than 1 episode that had to shove the plot down our throats as quickly as possible.

The way I see it, this entire season was likely meant to be the last. Everything so far this season has been building toward Twi moving to become something more than she was and then the series would end. Which is why I'm thinking there's a good chance the focus could level back out once S4 hits, if the only reason for the focus shift was originally meant to lead to the series end. These episodes are made up to nearly a year in advance, remember. So while we were big we weren't really as big an influence as we'd like to think.

And putting aside the potential hits on the way the shows mechanics work I'll just make the obvious statement that Twi with wings is awesome. The animation on the wings how they had a realistic reflex to draw in when Rarity poked one...it's just all around cute. And her keeping her same curiosity tells me she is still the same pony.

The reasons behind her becoming an Alicorn seemed reasonable given the time they really had to explain it. I mean, it's kinda been built up over this season, as I said, but still. Larson did a great job given the time he was allotted, and I'm sure since they've got more time to work with the idea in S4 they should be able to do a better job.

And the animation was god damn incredible. It was extremely surprising even for this show. The lighting, shading, movements, the little things, the big things, all of the animation was nearly flawless.

Can't wait for Season 4, really. The episode wasn't really up to par with most of this season, but it certainly wasn't bad. There were plenty of great moments and it did an alright job of explaining things given the time.

Sorry to hear, Logan. Even if you don't stick around until then I hope you at least give the next season a chance. You're always welcome back whenever.

Worked for the first 2 seasons...........

It can be both, obviously. And I don't remember the first season having an episode with that much singing. Heck, not even the second season had an episode like that. Actually, this is really the first episode with that much singing.

It's as if, the script for this episode had two sentences: "The Cutie Marks flipped around and Twi has to fix it somehow." And further down the page was
Twilight Sparkle become and alicorn and a Princess."

And that was it. Which, really isn't a problem normally, but apparently, the wrong writer got a hold of that piece of paper and gave us the episode we saw today. It's not a great episode at all. It really should have been two episodes. And the fact that they spent so much time singing, tells me it wasn't particularly well...put together. Not necessarily poorly written, just...almost as if it WAS intended to be the season finale (which, I thought they were supposed to reveal Twi's "destiny" then anyway. Isn't that what's been happening, anyway? At the beginning and end of each season, Twilight goes through an event that brings her training in magic up a level. So, this episode just seems further out of place) but something happened. Maybe someone at Hasboro didn't like it. Perhaps they came up with a better idea for the finale, yet still wanted to tell this story...whatever happened, it just seems...off.

I do love how it took about five minute for them to get around to telling us what was happening at the beginning. Why they couldn't have started with Twi receiving the book, I have no idea.

This is probably my least favorite episode. Just because I KNOW it could've been much much better.

The singing was telling the story.

And it was telling it far faster than normal dialogue would have without it feeling more awkward and clunky than a couple of the songs did.

And I misread what you said about the Simpsons, yeah, having that much singing in a single episode can be bleh. Ruined an episode of Scrubs for me.

It's as if, the script for this episode had two sentences: "The Cutie Marks flipped around and Twi has to fix it somehow." And further down the page was
Twilight Sparkle become and alicorn and a Princess."

Twi accidentally flipped the cutie marks, she then had to find a way to fix it. Then she realized that making the ponies realize their true destinies all over again, then reuniting them with their true element, would revert their cutie mark. Then she did this, and after realizing it she wrote her own form of magic. After all of this, and all that she'd learned under Celestia, she was realized as a princess and went through the transformation.

Did you walk away for a drink or something after Twi realized the cutie marks were swapped?

It really should have been two episodes. And the fact that they spent so much time singing, tells me it wasn't particularly well...put together. Not necessarily poorly written, just...almost as if it WAS intended to be the season finale (which, I thought they were supposed to reveal Twi's "destiny" then anyway. It was a season finale, and an obvious cliffhanger.

And this season was likely planned out long before they decided to make a fourth season, so there really wasn't much to do about it other than work with what they'd already made, and the writers probably had no say in it being a single episode.

As for "Twi's destiny", someone suggested that her becoming an Alicorn was by way of her realizing her destiny. Her cutie mark is magic. So in writing a new form of magic she reached the absolute highest point she could in the sense of magical power and knowledge.

Which really only make me more eager to see Season 4. While it's going to be a huge bitch to get right, there is a way to spin this and keep the show as good as it was through Season 2 without throwing anything out the window. If it ends up being terrible, then whatever, I'll stop watching it and go on with other things. I'd still always be posting on GTP, and be in Chatzy/TC, occasionally. And I'd still watch each new episode for as long as I am just in case something good comes of it, but still. It's 22 minutes a week, I really don't see any reason not to give it a chance, especially with some of the other crap I waste my time on when I'm surfing the internet.

It's called suspense. If you answer all the questions up front there's no reason to take interest in the rest of it.

It could've been done without the beginning and end songs,, maybe some brief dialogue instead, but I can appreciate what they were trying to do. It's far from my least favorite, even just for this season, but it's definitely not up there on my list.

Anyway, of the massive amounts of songs, I enjoyed 3 of them, really:

Obviously the serious tone one with Twi would be my favorite.

This one, because each of the Mane cast get a solo part and that's just god damn awesome.

And this one, because holy crap, Celestia singing.

All three were fantastically well structured and written songs, too. Loved the three of these, actually. Kind of a shame, really, if these were the only three songs and they'd have been given two episodes to work this out this could've been amazing.

EDIT:

It's such a chilled out song...I love it. This gets a spot in my relaxing music playlist.

So in an attempt to not make one Mary sue character, I've decided to split various aspects of my personality into four different characters. Will post in the morning.

What makes you think any of the other writers could have done a better job with the 22 minutes given? And don't just go and say Lauren Faust, since she hasn't actually been head writer for an episode since The Ticket Master.

One thing you should know is that M.A Larson has been arguably the most consistent writer in the show, and it usually results in some of the better episodes we've seen. The finale was a different and rather new challenge and though with 22 minutes to play with, it would be a challenge for any of the writers to pull something awesome out of the bag. Of course it could have been better, but I don't think it would make much difference who wrote it unless they had 2 or even 3 episodes to work with.

I would have liked to see it take place over more than a single episode, and yes it did feel like the end of the series rather than a season finale as we've said already. Signs are pointing to the season 4 premier being a 2-parter, which has been the case for both previous 26 episode seasons and I hope those turn out well.

I may not have liked most of the songs in this one either, but it was an interesting move to make it more of a music episode, and it did do a better job of getting through in 22 minutes than if they just had regular dialogue.

And so now you're saying it wasn't exactly poorly written, not long after saying the wrong writer got hold of this episode? Who wrote it hardly matters, because time constraints were always going to affect this episode regardless.

I do love how it took about five minute for them to get around to telling us what was happening at the beginning. Why they couldn't have started with Twi receiving the book, I have no idea.

This is probably my least favorite episode. Just because I KNOW it could've been much much better.

I would have liked it if they just got the letter out of the way first, since I never cared much for the opening song. Plus Twilight's over-exuberance seemed odd to me when the episode wasn't even up to speed yet. I wouldn't say it was my least favourite, but it's some way off being in the top 50% of episodes so far.

All three were fantastically well structured and written songs, too. Loved the three of these, actually. Kind of a shame, really, if these were the only three songs and they'd have been given two episodes to work this out this could've been amazing.

The only song I honestly enjoyed was "True, True friend". I understand why you'd like "I've Got to Find a Way" and the singing was good, but I didn't feel the same way. Especially during the chorus which at first I thought didn't seem like a fitting piece for the show. But this episode was so different from the others overall, I can get over it.

Celly getting some song time was great though, and she really did sing well. The emotionally cathartic feel helped to make this episode seem more like the series was ending though.

Also, you might get a kick from this remix:

sonnabitch I hit quote instead of edit...

So the latest...

Meh.
It was good, not complety horrible and cringe worthy, but it was... wierd. It should of been much longer, but in a way, it fit the 20 minute period.. and might of been harder to draw out. It's just... odd. Also, it should of been much, much later on, like at the earliest, season 5. Atleast the whole becoming an alicorn thing was cooler than I expected. As for season 4... we'll just have to wait and see if Hasbro doesn't alienate the whole fandom by the time it comes out.

Ok, Finally got them up. No names yet, but rough idea on them at the moment. Here they are:

Pony1.png

Pony1V2.png

Design: Immediately, you'll notice his wings are very different from any other Pegasus Pony. Partially it was to incorporate my Chinese Zodiak (Which is a Dragon), and partially it would make him unique and present a challenge to how other Pegasi would accept him given his different looks. Obviously, he's basically got a different colored Wonderbolts suit but its the closest to something thats supposed to be his racing suit.

Personality: A warm and friendly soul thats matched only by his competitive nature. Usually curious and willing to get along with others and has a strong sense of wrong and right.

Flaws: Tends to be easily frustraited when things don't go his way. Add in his desire to win and it can really get out of hand.

Occupation/Talent: He's an upcoming star racer, always competing for the win and can be usually found racing somewhere, anywhere.

Pony2.png

Pony2V2.png

Design: Abit basic, more or less a simple color combination for two of my favorite colors just to sort of highlight her simple way of going about. Her costume is basically when she's in her director mode.

Personality: A mare who's as outgoing and adventerious as her work on the Camera, always one willing to do something new or to go out and do something interesting.

Flaws: Patience tends to be a thorn in her side as she tends to jump into something without consideration

Occupation/Talent: A Young Camera operator and video director, Always striving for that perfect shot.

Pony3.png

Pony3V2.png

Design: Experamented for a while and after abit, this just stuck out to me. Felt it fitted perfect. Her costume is obviously a reflection of her creative side and is meant to contrast heavily from her body color.

Personality: A Strong and confident pony, never shys away from a challenge thats put before her.

Flaws: Her confidence can lead to being cocky and sometimes reckless. Also has the tendency to be abit pedantic and abit cynical.

Occupation/Talent: Longtime artist, been painting and making works since she was a filly. Whenever she's found, she's always working on something
using whatever medium and material attainable.

Pony4.png

Pony4V2.png

Design: Just across these colors and instantly thought "Thats it right there". Costume is his live performance outfit under his stage name

Personality: Very loose, never one that worries too much and tends to generally have a positive look on things.

Flaws: The one time he does worry is when he struggles to come up with something, downing himself and his abilities. His pride tends to get the best of him if he feels he isn't up to the task.

Occupation/Talent: A rising Musician & DJ, constintly cranking out catchy beats and club ready jams. If you hear muffled loud music somewhere and it isn't Vinyl Scratch, its probably him.

So yeah, there they are. Still works in progress so I'm willing to take some reasonable and helpful critique, just don't go Simon Cowell on me please (I read enough harshness from one Simon on these forums ).

Also, I hope to have my Acer back at least by Tuesday so I can get all mah stuff back and get in some moe Wet Mane action.

Already planning the fanfic for when A Starlit Rainbow is done. ^_^;

Looks like I was right to hold off on doing a remix of A True True Friend, then.

Hey. Been following the thread for a while, aswell as watching MLP for quite a while. Didn't plan on posting in here, but for whatever reason I just really need to give my opinion on the recent episode.

I don't know how to do hide the text, so everyone who hasn't seen the recent episode be warned, this comment contains spoilers.

To start off, I didn't mind the whole Alicorn thing. To me, it seemed like the natural progression in the overall storyline. But this episode set a new low for the show. As in being downright abysmal. The first problem for me is the damn songs. Basically, if you dislike the songs in the show, the episode is near unwatchable. I'm dumbfounded by how the majority of these songs are every bit as literal as Rebecca Blacks, Friday. C'mon, put some effort into it.

What makes all this worse, is that the last 2 episodes (as in the ones before EP.13) have been utterly pointless. Nothing was achieved. In other words, this episode could've easily been a two parter. Something it clearly needed to be in order to tell the story properly.

Few other problems that struck me as odd. Why would Twilight, someone who's supposedly really clever, use a spell that she, A, doesn't know the effect off, and B, doesn't know if she'll be able to counter, should things turn bad. This just didn't make sense. Also, howcome no one in the Apple family reacted to Applejack missing, and Pinkie attempting to do her work? Same with Rarity's sister.

While I won't stop watching it altogether just yet, I don't think the show is ever returning to what made it great. It no longer has good writing, or clever jokes. Selling toys has become the nr. 1 priority, and Faust's abscence is really starting to show. In my opinion, we went from a great 1'st season, to a very mediocre 2nd. season (with a few exceptions), to a mostly horrible 3rd. season.

Well, those were my thoughts. Don't know why I felt so strong about posting them here. Hopefully, this isn't stepping on anyone's toes.
