Just submitted a ticket to TM. My T500 started acting up this morning. I started hearing a "hissing" sound and then smoke coming out of the vents. I then shut down the PS3 and uplugged everything and restarted. The wheel had to be helped calibrating, but it did finish the operation. I then raced a few events and had no issues.

I reported all this to TM and got a confirmation e-mail. So we shall wait and see what transpires.:nervous:

How does that pedal setup work for you? It looks from the outside like you would have to hold your legs up in the air while not pressing on pedals...

works perfectly and very comfortable. Longest stretch of playtime for me was about 3 hrs and felt great afterwards. the angle of the floor plate is the same as when i had the g25 pedals mounted before. below is a video of me playing :P

Just got home this morning and mine is completely fried. Guess I will see how well TM does on the exchange. Probably will have to wait a month before I get a new one.

This time when I fired it up, it literally fired up, in smoke. The PS3 nor the PC would not recognize it. The mains adaptor just kept blinking away and the smoke just kept rolling out! Poof it is a brick. I have my fingers crossed that I will get some good feedback.

Ole' $hit for luck, thats me. Should have known better. I can never have anything nice.:grumpy:

I noticed mine smells pretty burned when I take a sniff near the fan. Hope that's just the motor at work.

That is how it started. I just don't get it. I can't find anything on the Net about it. TM's Tech site is really lacking in info. All I can do is wait till they reply to my ticket or wait till 9AM EST and call.

Well the thing burned... why wait for the Thrustmaster support, can't you just send it or bring it back to where you bought it for a replacment? It's obviously a goner.

You're logic is insulting to common sense, you're saying screw what the manufacturer says about their own product. Thrustmaster makes firmware updates to better their product, it can be important to research before updating but it's standard procedure to trust in an update to better the product :dopey:

Really?

You don't think a bios upgrade can cause hardware to operate at different parameters some of which may cause phyiscal harm?

See below for possibly evidence of firmware induced hardware failure.

I wonder if in an attempt to mitigate the fan failure rate they have slowed its operation to limit fan use - result... overheating and fire??

Wow - a possible overheating failure related to fan performance????

Yet to think the day I posted that I experience fan failure 26 hours into the life of my first T500 I was poopoohed and pahpahhed and insulted.

I hate to say yet again I told you guys something was up.

So lets see now:

I reported the Mode button is an issue and was insulted:

TM chnage the Mode button operation.

I reported fan failure as a possible issue and was insulted:

One of the main early failures appears to be fan related.

I suggest people not rush into bios upgrades until TM sort their issues out and get insulted:

It might now appear a number of early bios updaters are suffering physical damage to their wheels.

3 for 3 so far.

Hmmmm. Maybe I wasn't such a bad early adopter to post some of those early reviews after all.

Oh well, back to earning money and playing GT Legends and rFactor with the T500 v31 and non-updated Fanatec Club Sport Pedals on my much hated PlaySeat v1 ;)

You do not know if any of the firmware updates have modified the operation of the fan inside. Right now there is no information to indicate that this is in fact true.

You do not know if any causal link exists between the firmware updates and product failures.

You do not know the cause of VINCE's failure, you are just speculating.

You willing to put money on it? I have not been wrong yet and am willing to wager my experience over your ignorance to the tune of $100 to St Judes.

:)

I'm not here to play a who is right game or a betting game. I am here to help out the other fellows here who own the product and I'm interested in understanding the issues people are having.

I don't understand what reason you would have to insistently make a case/spin a story about how firmware updates are changing fan operation and subsequently causing the wheel to burn up, when you have no information to indicate that this is actually happening, just a few disconnected stories. How is that helping the other users here?

Your personal attack is also uncalled for, there is no good reason for you to frame yourself as "experienced" and myself as "ignorant" in a conversation.

So you are not willing to wager on your opinion then? Yet you are willing to chastise me? Interesting how you are all "no personal attacks" now, yet 3 weeks ago where willing to join the original pile-on that lambasted me for my original (now proven correct) opinion regarding this wheel.

What people need to hear/see is the truth regarding thus wheel so they can make an informed decision about buying it - not some lemming like fanboiy praise for it.

This wheel us great but is showing some alarming and regular technical issues that people need to be aware of.

But again, rather that full disclosure, some people would rather have pure fanaticism.

I bet when the 2nd and 3rd bios flashed wheels go up in smoke vindication will be mine, yet again - followed shortly by a v34 bios update ;)

True this. However the POS 3rd party I bought it from off Amazon will not respond back to me. Kind of had the feeling I would run into this issue with them. That is why I am going directly to the Mfg. We shall see what happens next. I just responded back to a message from TM wanting my full name, adress, phone number and copy of my invoice. They then responded back saying they got the info and someone would be contacting me.

If you're doing 24h endurance races I think that can be forgiven in order to minimize strain, don't you think? :)

To be honest, I haven't done any endurance races yet :) Don't know how that is. But I can understand if you have to race for 24hrs, after a while you get bored. Especially when you're ahead 20 laps :)

Just tried GTR Evolution with the provided profile. Is it just me or does FFB really feel a lot better than GT5? Seems like a whole different level.

No, it's not just you. I've never played GTR Evolution, but I did play GTR2 before moving to the PS3. There's no comparison. GTR2 had far, far better and more sophisticated FFB. I miss it. A lot. So much so that I'm actually thinking about getting back into PC sims/gaming via a gaming PC hooked up to my home theater system.

Yeah I have the problem that I can't easily move the computer into the living room and hook it to the TV. All I have is a wheelstand pro which works fine there but in front of my desk it's just too far away. Not to mention I'm catapulting myself backwards when I brake because of my office chair with wheels :dopey:

Guess I should try iRacing. From what I understand it will be even better than GTR.
