Yeah that was one thing I was curious about- could the T500RS pedals be used with Fanatec wheels. I originally debated just buying a GT2 wheel (for FM4 / 360 support) and getting a T500RS for PS3.

An update concerning my dead wheel.

I went back and forth with the Thrustmaster support during the past weeks. Wasn't very impressed with them. Once we finally arrived at the point when they believed me the wheel is dead (each reply from them took several days, almost up to a week sometimes), they informed me that I cannot return the wheel directly to them because I live in Switzerland (no idea why) and that I need to go through the retailer I bought it from.

On a more positive note, I mailed Amazon yesterday evening and they replied that same evening with a most pleasurable mail. They apologized for the wheel's failure and (without asking any more questions) created a new order with a brand new wheel that is to be sent to me real soon. Once I get the new wheel I need to send the faulty one back within 30 days and they offered to refund in full the shipping costs thereby incurred (won't be cheap sending to the UK).

Now that's what I call customer service! Wonder why I didn't go through Amazon from the beginning.

Mhm wondering why the support was not so great..
I can say that i am very happy with the customer support. Contacted them several times and always got an answer within 24 hours. They developed a complete new tool only for my issue (calibration problem which was not solved with the button combo). So when a company developes a new tool for an issue from a customer, then this is unbelievable great customer support!

Here is a pic of My rig GT5 Playseat and T500RS. Pedals are temporarily fixed with ziplocks
till the Playseat pedal extension comes on sale.

Thanks for this post! My T500 came from Amazon today. I plugged it into PC and updated firmware. Tested all the buttons and FFB and everything was working great. I plugged the wheel into PS3 and no response. Turned the system on and off a couple times and still no response. Plugged the wheel back into PC and wheel isn't showing up at all. Don't know what could have possibly happened between moving the usb cable from the PC to the PS3 but I now have a dead wheel. I tested the power supply and I'm getting 24 volts so its not that.

Anyways I contacted Thrustmaster support and they responded pretty quick a couple times but nothing has worked. I didn't realize till I read this post that Amazon had such a nice painless exchange policy. They are one day shipping me a new wheel and I have 30 days to return the defective one. Hopefully the next one will work.

I would never flash a device without first testing it "as is".

Still running V31 here.

Yes it is advised to check the wheel out before updating.

I wonder when the Shifter arrives will RC update his firmware then?
Whats the difference in updating then to now? Also it is the mentality that they cant or wont improve things but only make it worse.
They even fixed his mode button issue with the one second press and he refuses to update, lol the irony, now thats funny.

Curious how many people here have had a damaged wheel so far with updating their firmware?

Then again not like RC to make a BIG DEAL out of something.

Blow it out your arse you pompous windbag.

Have been running the wheel for last two weeks on V35 maybe 30 hours in total, after 20 hours got the fishing line noise and was a bit concerned but it appears to have worked its way out through use so happy days, nice observational skills Mr Latte by the way ;-)

Ha Ha, well sorry just had to.

It is funny though you moaned about that and they fixed it yet you havnt bothered to update.

I make a valid point however...

The thing is here, RC puts effort forward to share with this group.

His views at times are surely best seen through his eyes, however that does not matter. What matter is he is trying to help this community.

I would say a little bit of respect and being mature would do well in here, from RC and others.

:)

Sorry to say that once you have over a grand to play a game, it becomes more then a toy. Well to many. hahahaha Hate to add mine up. . .granted SRS and TV would be lumped in. But still a scary thought what is invested to get the immersion we do.

Your are correct on one point and for my lack of respect I apologise. However you are wrong on the other point and no matter how much you spend on a gaming wheel it will always be a toy.

Now I have just bought the T500RS and a GamePod GT2 to better my gaming experience. However it still remains that I have bought an expensive toy wheel and a piece of furniture to mount it on.

It will always be the least serious thing I do. The most enjoyable hobby it maybe but serious never.

Nobody would argue with his help at times, however not everyone shares the same opinion in not just what he says but how severe or big he makes the issues he raises. The guy seems to lack any sense of moderation at times.

As for behaving like an adult I asked him a sensible question, when is the right time to upgrade the firmware saying as he is so against it?
People will upgrade if they want to and he should respect that, if he wants to stay on the original firmware, thats fine.

What type of guy though criticises a small issue about a product makes it a big issue then refuses to upgrade his firmware to fix that issue and or improve other things. Thats just plain stubborn in my eyes like a real "Victor Meldrew" Also whats with the whole "China Low Quality" thing?

Of course it seems those that upgrade in his eyes are the foolish ones.
If he decides to be outspoken at times what else does he expect.

He can have his opinion others can have theirs.
I wont resort to personal attacks though, bit of fun at times yes.

For this people looking for a cockpit for this wheel, Zalem Simuladores (an spanish metal constructor) has released an specific version for it. He say the pedals can be placed in both possitons.

I must to say that personally don´t like to me, but there is an option for some users.

Well then technically you are at the 31st revision of the Firmware. Just it was updated before you got the wheel. It's not like I installed some custom mod or firmware. I don't think I can be faulted for installing an official firmware update that most other people have already installed successfully. For all I know v31 could of had a defect in it that v35 corrected. Granted in hindsight I should have tested both systems before updating but to be honest I don't even think the issue was the firmware. After I updated the wheel was working great. It was when I plugged it into the PS3 that it died. How can a Usb plug and play device be bricked just by inserting the cable. Unless there's a short in the socket maybe.

I noticed one time when I had my Playstation Eye in port 1, I couldn't get my fightstick to work on port 2 unless I unplugged the PlayStation Eye. Maybe I have some problem with my USB ports. Well I'll be sure that the only thing plugged in will be the new wheel when I get tomorrow.

I am thinking of picking up a T500 as my G25 is dead.

Its double the cost of a G27 here in Aus, ( it costs $750 ).

Is it work the extra $$$ ?

I have heard about some teething issues with this wheel.

As its a new product just wanted to make sure in general people have no issues hardware wise.

BTW I will be playing gt5 ( and maybe shift2 ) on PS3 and F1 2010 on PC.

Cheers

Or you can go the route of a Fanatec GT3rs plus ClubSport Pedals. Those pedals are amazing and the T500's aren't. Not too sure about the G27, the GT3rs is a nice upgrade!! The wheel feels really nice. Can't beat the on-board adjustments!!!

I´m really enthusiastic with my T500 (I feel I have fulfilled my dream of having an arcade machine wheel at home), but for me the cost of this wheel supossed only 25% over the G27´s cost.

If the price is the double, and you want to play using H shifter (you would buy the T500 Shifter in the future), my recomendation for you is to buy a G27.

t500 isn't officially supported by shift2 or f1 2010 far as I know. So you'll want to research if the wheel can be used properly with those. Notice most T500 owners only speak of gt5 and pc sims for the most part cause thats probably all they can play

t500rs is a new wheel so it will take time for devs to pickup on it.

Dave Thompson from Eutechnix has confirmed that a patch will soon follow the release of NASCAR The Game.

coming from a DFP, the T500RS is quite the experience. Tested so far with RBR and LFS which offer a good immersion, and really nice FFB, especially in RBR it's brutal ;). subscribed one month to iracing just to see what it is like... wow. awesome GFX, best FFB out of the three titles tested so far...

if you do a blind driving test behind the T500 wheel, you would almost think that you're in a real car with real connection to the tires and the ground, belt driven wheels are superior to those with gears in other areas beside "noise"... although in this section T500 scores very poor; after 20min the fan will start up and become very audible, much louder than any DFP/G2x I've heard so far.

the pedals are definitely "good" enough for most people out there, load cell seems to offer a better braking experience, so I feel TT missed an opportunity here; the brake is quite hard in default config (compared to DFP plastic pedals, *duh*).

overall, so far, I would say T500 is almost worth the money, next test with GT5 to see if this wheel can be recommended ;)

Good to hear that and with Codemasters confirming Dirt 3 to have it then F1 2011 should also. This leaves a big question mark over EA with Shift 2.

Quite a few of us will be annoyed if that ships without support.
If a patch comes later, yeah I can wait and deal with that. Its when companies dont bother their back side to confirm if they will or will not have support included.

Didnt TM say they shipped wheels to the major developers in Janurary. So its upto the devs/companies to sort it.

Hey Dan,

I got a T500Rs yesterday (AU$750 from JBHIFI online).

It is a significant step step up from the G27 I bought a few weeks ago as a stop gap when my G25 bit the dust.

Steering is accurate, pedal spacing is good (always been a problem for me with the Logitech wheels). Nice to have all the required buttons on the wheel. I haven't installed the brake mod yet but will as brakes in default have little feel to them). The rubber wheel as opposed to leather feels better to me. The fixed shifters take a bit of getting used to but are ok.

Negatives: haven't found adequate adjustment of feedback or wheel rotation yet, maybe it's there and I can't see it (any tips?). The Mode button is badly placed - on wheel body under bottom of left hand paddle, in vigorous driving situation can hit it which stops pedals from working, as I discovered mid race.

Also if the game hangs and I have to reboot the controller buttons go nuts and I have to unplug the USB and let the wheel re-register.

Not as happy as I had hoped I would be with this thing. Already contemplating buying a Fanatec wheel for greater control of rotation. The disappointing thing is the absence of support in GT5 (only game I play) for the wheel when compared to the control panel options that the documentation indicates are available when this wheel is used on a pc.

Thanks Rob,

I am now torn between this and the Fanetec Turbo S package on JB online ( includes the turbo S wheel + shifters and CS pedals for $800 ).

How long was shipping from JB online ?

Anyone tried both the T500 and the Turbo S ???

Its alot of money compared to a G27 but Logitech don't have a repair center over hear in Aus so once a G27 is out of warranty they wont fix them ( as I found out with my G25 ) and they offer no upgrade path like they do in the US :(

Hey.
When you have problems with the mode button you can upgrade your firmware. Then you have to push the mode button one second to change the type of pedals.

tried GT5 yesterday, coming from iracing it does feel like a step back; less information is transmitted to the wheel with the forces imho, might also be because of the simulator ;)

what really sucks on GT5/PS3 is the inability to change the wheel rotation lock; I don't want 900° in a F1 car; even in race modded GT cars the most you need is 720°...

on PC you can infinity adjust the max weel rotation, very impressive and much better than on the DFP as the stronger forces on the T500 really block you from turning further.
