Thrustmaster is sending me an improved fan. It's a v3 60x60x20 mm. They were originally going to send the Top Cover with Fan as the replacement.

Upgraded my wheel rim with a Derek Speare adapter and 330mm suede wheel rim

Thanks. I can't tell if theirs any loss in FFB at all. Still rumbles and pulls like a beast lol imo its a lot smoother turning too. Big improvement imo not to mention the suede feels great

Forgive me, but how can changing the rim alter anything except the feel of the material the rim is covered with? The wheel won't turn "smoother". All you have is a suede covered wheel with no buttons. It being thicker might be better as I've always considered is a bit narrow stock?

It does look good though 👍

Edit...by the laws of torque, I guess because the new rim has a larger diameter it'll be easier to turn?

Mass is resistance to acceration.

To be perfectly honest I wasn't great at physics, but imo the larger rim makes turning smoother and more gradual. Its closer in size to a real car rim and feels closer to being realistic than the 300mm original. Of course I've sacrificed on wheel controls for a more realistic rim, but Derek Speare has some options for PS3 users coming. And in the mean time

My replacement fan arrived today. Any tips, suggestions, or warnings before I get started? This is the single fan 60-60-20 mm v3 fan that needs to be mounted next to the motor with double sided adhesive. Rather than on the top cover.

They sent me a whole top cover and fan attached. It was just a matter of unscrewing the casing, unplugging the fan and replacing it. Is the old fan staying in the case and your just to Frankenstein the one they sent you onto the motor?

There is a flat spot next to the motor where it mounts. It's larger I guess and can move more air. Originally they wanted to send me the fan and top combo, they cancelled that and sent the improved v3 fan.

Here is the location of the new fan.

EDIT: The old fan is a CC6010H12S at .20 amps. New fan is a CC6020M12S at .06 amps. The new fan is considerably heavier despite the old fan have 3/4 of it's sides with brackets. The new one has a bracket on one side (bottom).

Edit: So the problem is to have any wheel on straight with his adapter it needs to have a momo style pattern like this.

But the wheels i am looking into have bolt patterns like this.

I am ver impressed with this new fan so far. To test it, I cranked the FFB to 10, took an X1 to Daytona and ran the "off road" course. That would be racing on the oval except through the grass. That wasn't even getting the fan to turn on! I was starting to think something was wrong.

I took a rally car to one of the Eiger rally courses. After a few laps of constant bumps and quick steering, this got the fan to kick on. It's pretty quiet. It's not silent but it's probably half as loud as the original fan.

I decided to ghost ride the car and just keep it full throttle. The wheel was whipping side to side. When it hit a fence it was still going back and forth with added bangs and whatnot. FFB effects I had to pull fairly hard to turn the wheel from lock to lock. Letting go of the wheel, it would snap back to the opposite direction. I allowed the car to move from spot to spot while full throttle to find new areas of feedback effects.

The fan never went higher than the initial speed. The motor and heat sink got warm but not HOT to the touch. Heat now has another vent to be expelled, from the top where the old fan was. I could feel the heat coming from the top vent.

I tested for about 15-20 minutes. The PS3 is sitting idle at the XMB with the wheel still connected. It's been sitting for about 10 minutes an the fan is still running.

Does any user know if PS3 version of Test Drive Ferrari Racing Legends works with T500 RS and TH8 RS?

Thanks.

No support for the T500 in the PS3 version of that game from what I've read.

Are you serious!!!!! Wow

EDIT: something I failed to mention yesterday:
NASCAR Motegi Thread started by Adrenaline
I had to replace the fan in my T500rs. To begin my testing, I cranked the FFB to 10 and did a few laps with Adrenaline's setup. This caused steering to be really sharp. With normal steering inputs, I had oversteer but not to the point of losing the rear end. With minimal steering inputs I was doing massive burn outs through turns 3&4!!!

This had nothing to do with the fan replacement. But it was a result of really high FFB.

Just won the bidding for a Thrustmaster T500 on Ebay. Very happy about that. However I think the guy is trying to con me on delivery. He is sending it merely 50 miles, the box weighs 18kg (found that through a review who said the box should come with a warning due to its 18kg weight). He has claimed it will cost him £55 to deliver it as it weighs 50kg. So can anyone here clarify, does it weight 50kg? And if it does, what on earth is in the box?

Very odd I thought. I had checked costs myself and it was £11.99 for an 18kg box.

Its very heavy, although I don't know the exact weight. The pedals, in particular, are extremely heavy, no doubt because they are all metal. I hope you have a good back, you will need it.

Its a great wheel. I also have a CSR Elite and I cannot decide which wheel I like better. I got the T500 and pedals brand new at Fry's for $385 based on a price match from tigerdirect.com. :sly:

Well, firstly, you're dealing with a serious piece of kit, and you don't even have to take the T500 RS wheel or pedal set out of the box to know what you're dealing with. In fact, the weight stamped on the side, 18kg or 40lbs should be required by law to be issued with a warning regarding lifting with your knees. So those with weak lower backs stand advised!

I definitely think he is trying to pump me for more delivery money, no way it weights 50kg. 18kg is still heavy though, a box of bananas is heavy and thats only 13/14kg.

Shipping weight on Amazon is 38 pounds. Shipping fees are from free (Amazon Prime FTW) to $3.99 - $128 (he also want $611 for the wheel). Several want between $20 - $50. I would not pay more than $25.

Amazon is an actual seller, this jack lick on eBay does not! Thrustmaster wont honor the sale from a third party individual concerning warranty issues. Frankly, I would not buy a used one from someone I do not personally know.

The display is amazing- virtually no bezel- but from I know it's a Samsung and it costs around $4000 each (40"). The cockpit looks great but the wheel mount looks super fragile.

I can tell you from Experience that it's not fragile at all. I mounted my wheel so close to me (telescopic) and it's solid solid (Check ISR Review)

That's good to know. It does look rather cool- the wheel mount, that is. So unlike most of the other cockpits where you get a large base to clamp/mount your wheel on.

The T500RS looks great on it but I can see the CSW looking absolutely amazing with the setup. Or the Frex Simwheel or one of these:

Is it not possible to completely line up triple screens in GT5 when using projectors or in this case mighty expensive bezel-less monitors? Or is this just not set up properly? Can't believe this guy is using wacky Logitech speakers on this otherwise amazing setup.
