Actually the Firmware updater lives a bit "hidden" in W8... But I finally installed V41 and guess what:

ALL simulators I have (GTR2, Rfactor, Rfactor2, RaceON) have issues now, and EVERY sessions. The wheel simply turns to one side and freezes there during racing, making impossible to drive.

I lost my confidence in this hardware, I'm not planning acquire a TM product anymore.
Actually I have Win 7 and Win 8, but somewhere I remember to use Win xp so that's what I did on my laptop and it did the trick. Edit: But I use the wheel on PS3 and GT5.!

I updated the firmware on my T500RS using USB 3.0 (Intel MB laptop) without any problem at all. It's the second time I have done it using USB 3.0. So any issues may be very specific to a certain chip/controller.

My T500 has wigged out in the past when I connected it to a USB 3.0 port on my computer.

I only have USB 3.0 ports on my new mainboard so far been fine :). If you enable legacy support I don´t see why there would be a general issue?

I have not attempted any firmware update on it though but none of my usb 2.0 advices so far has complained.

I contacted Thrustmaster about the insanely low stock in the U.S. I couldn't wait and I bought a g27, but here is my question and their response

I'm working on that right now :)

Eager to see your mods :dopey:

Anyway, I'm almost certain my fan's broken. It's very noisy when it starts, - more than usual - but then it sort of "calm down". Is this normal? I'll try to get a video up, when I use it the next time.

Excactly the same with me from day 1, but it works and does not overheat. To be honest I did not encounter one problem yet altough I have driven over 100.000 km with it...

How can I identify T500RS version (other than at the stickers under wheel base and pedals): is it somewhere on the outer brownish cardboard box or on the inner proper box with pictures/logos on it too?
Some picture for the guidance where to look?

Mine's also gone from "loud to acceptable volume" since I used it the first time (might have sounded like it was a new thing - it wasn't, sorry), but at the time, I wrote that post, the fan was way louder, in the start than usually. I haven't had time to use it for quite some time, but as I said, I'll get a video up, once I use it the next time.

Wow, that wheel comes off the buttons and mount so clean, I bet we're gonna see this thing used in some killer mods. O_o

Yes it's a wonderful little platform. :) The only hangup for mounting "any old rim" on there is the DPAD and the small diameter of the hole pattern.

The hole pattern is something I already worked out. The DPAD is another story. Of course, it can simply be covered if a person wants since the actual pad portion literally falls off. (it's held in place by the rim itself)

Pre-made hub/button plate? Yes thanks... :)

As far as the DPAD is concerned, that doesn't look like anything a sufficiently large drill bit couldn't solve.

The fan just continue to amaze me. I had no idea there existed such crappy fans. And I have had my fair share of turbo jet engine fans. But the thing was those moved a lot of air this fan move no air yet manage to make such noise???

Anybody have a suggestion for a good fan to replace it with?

oooo gotcha.

it's all because of forza 5 and gt6. we know there is a t500 like wheel being used for forza and you know they are doing something for gt6 too being that it is 15 anniversary and all that

Well, the retail is $599, so it's $100 over... and you can still get the F1 package for that, while they last anyways.

Just some month ago they where on sale for almost 50 % the retail price it goes fast :)

Btw is it normal that your T500RS get so hot you are almost getting burned on it. Long since the fan was in top shape but I feel it´s in a seriously bad shape now.

Use a thermometer of some sort, touch the area to get a temp. Shoot a video of this and send it to Thrustmaster. Either a YouTube link or a short clip.

You don't even have to do that, if you say its basically dead not turning they will send you out a new one..Mine was playing up and they wanted the proof, couldn't be arsed so next day i said it was dead, sent out that day no proof required.

So, TM sent you a new fan, without any proof?

By that, I mean, like proof that you bought the wheel, etc. :D.

I don´t have any thermometer. I sent an email though with video of it will see if they respond. It should be very obvious this isn´t acceptable. Sounds like it run at half speed now and all that grinding.

Anyway I hope you don´t have to solder or anything to replace it? I watched some guide from fatkakr which involved soldering guns and what not. I confess I seriously dislike heavy modding I can do the nixim brake mod and SRW S1 button box mod and simple stuff like that or build water cooling setups etc but I don´t want to solder stuff or cut wires.
